Japan's XY9 Set: 'Rage of the Broken Sky,' New 'Battle Strengthening Sets'

I was a big fan of Cobalion (from Next Destinies) due to its Energy Press attack, and later Tropius. So at first I was a bit sad that Trevenant's Energy Press isn't 20+20~ like those were. But after thinking through the math, it comes out to average about the same damage with 70+10~, if not slightly more.
Granted, Trevenent's attack costs an extra energy versus those two cards', but it has the advantage of some minor synergy with its ability to increase its damage output a smidgen (and also has the advantage of being annoying).

...And I just remembered that Loudred got a 30+30~ Energy Press in Phantom Forces. That would have been great on this Trevenent. >.<

For some reason I was expecting trainer lock. The card is pretty nice. It can attack on turn 2 but it doesn't really do anything with its ability. It really should be better. I really have no idea how these cards are balanced.
Trainer lock? No item, nor stadium, nor supporter? How could this be balanced?

This card could be a pain when used in combination with Head Ringer and Team Flare Grunt / Enhanced Hammer / Crushing Hammer / Xerosic. The bad side though is that is only against basic Pokémon.

Seriously, this is the fire line they chose for the set? meh...
If there are any other fire cards, I don't think one is Camerupt BREAK, because apparently BREAKs are only for pokémon without Megas... It might be Heatmor, since Durant is in the set...

Fire's a small type, not surprising there aren't many in a lot of sets, there'd be way too many repeats. Heck, from XY on, the only fully-evolved Fires we lack are Darmanitan, Heatmor, Moltres and Infernape. Incidentally, 12 is probably Heatmor, but it could be another Torkoal or Victini I guess.

Trevenant seems legit. Ability and attack go well together.

*facepalm*

LOL?!

What part of "unless Aegislash has a BREAK (highly unlikely at this point), card #44 is Skrelp, since it's the only pokémon that fits in there" you didn't get? Do you even know how the cards are ordered in the sets?

-------

Anyway... for the others that didn't post a stupid reply...
I didn't think about the possibility of a Dragalge-EX... it'd be cool... It's just the Skrelp/Dragalge split fits the spaces (they did exactly the same thing in Flashfire) and allows them to have at least one dragon card in the set...
Also, this:
What set are we talking about? Before black and white was in alphabetical order and rarity. So that means they CAN change. Not likely, but possible. Also psychic malamar or psychic ageislash ex.
Black and white era on is NOTHING I am a skyridge fan. Perfectly completed. When cards were sorted differently.
Anyway, Tangrowth from primal clash is BEFORE Treeko, so ya...

This card is garbage. TPCi needs to stop making cards that have some potential but ultimately suck because they are too scared that "this card will be OP; it'll be the new meta". No it won't. Don't be silly they always are underpowered and have too much going against them.

The attack is also weak. Energy Press's new standard is 30+30 but this is 70+10 attack isn't worth Magikarp. I also dislike the "art" on a lot of the newer cards such as this one. Why are we degrading into the old days? Not the good old days like the D&P days but the super old artwork days no CG.

So you like massive sets with poor pull rates? 200 cards is ridiculous. :)

I just like kadabra

If Sudowoodo is not in Trevenant's card art I will flip.

*flips*

Well, all is not a loss. The Trevenant is interesting at least (I like how the attack works with the ability). Promoting it would usually force a Giratina-EX or Seismitoad to attach a new energy; but who knows... Toad/Garb might become a thing again.

That is...interesting. I'd probably run 3 XY Trevenant and one of these as a tech against stuff like Seismitoad.

While I'm sure this is meant to be a scary pose with the hands reaching forward as if to strangle... my first thought was that Trevenant is dancing. :p

And now I can't unsee him as trying to strangle me while dancing!

I don't think this is a bad card at all. Slowing your opponent is good, with head ringer 2 colorless more, and you can get your attack 1 colorless LESS! Not the worst card in this set which some people are acting like this is. with assention phantump and even wally (mainly wally) you can get this out turn one and really hurt your opponent. Really decent card I think, but I just like thinking positive!:p

No harm in thinking positive, but being realistic has its benefits as well. ;)

So being positive but in a realistic way, most of what you said applies; the big problem is "Why not use Trenevant (XY) instead?" Mixing the two strikes me as a poor idea; it would be difference if the new one had some sort of super-special-awesome attack or Ability, but we know that locking down Items is potent and the older version only does that while Active. Just seems like a bit of a conflict of interests mixing the two.
