Joseph Kony is one of the top criminals in the world....yet hardly anyone knows about him.

Please watch this video, it's thirty minutes long but I hope you can make the time in this case, and spread the word. Make comments and suggestions here talking about how we can stop Kony! If everyone on Pokebeach knows, maybe as a forum we can do something!!!

the invisible children

If I wasn't broke right now, I would totally buy the kit. Very moving, I used to actively donate to Falling Whistles, which was an organization that helped kids in the Republic of Congo who were abducted and forced into the military as well. I wish I could participate in Darken the Night, but I wont be able to.

I literally just put a link to the video in the sig (before I saw this thread), showing how powerful and fast we can really be. I'd love to talk to people and more about this, hopefully as it becomes more popular. I'll most likely get the get, and hopefully get to participate in the April 20th event.

That's fine, just keep on spreading it around and telling everyone.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH THE VIDEO AND START SPREADING THIS AROUND.

The video is all over my Facebook, so I kinda just found it.

I haven't completed it yet, but from what I've seen its incredibly moving. Like he implied in the intro, we need to make use of the social networking world we live in.

Its really sad that this still goes on in the world we live in. But given all the turmoil Uganda and its neighboring countries have been in since 1994, I kinda expected it.

Now I'm scared Joseph is going to come and train me to kill my parents. o_O We talked about this in school today. I was a little shocked, but the videop was very moving.

I was about to make this thread haha.

Everyone needs to watch this video & pass it on.
Like furreal.

That's great, but come on, what about our problems at home.

...Just because we have problems here means we should put up curtains and become blind to the rest of the world?

Honestly, this frustrates me. Invisible Children came to my school twice, (once in 2010, then again in 2011), which more than discussed the horrors of the LRA's actions. It was terrible, heart-breaking, and caused a good, not great, but good number to donate to the cause afterwards. This year, I was planning to start my own club, Comets for Congo, but someone else had started a club already. My high school is huge - 4,000+ kids.

Less than twenty showed up.

Now, about five months after IC's most recent visit, we're swept up into a whole bunch of anti-Kony nationalism. This man has been around for years.

It disappoints me that now are people making Facebook statuses about him, that now we're posting "KONY 2012" on every YouTube video we watch, that now we're starting to raise awareness.

I am more disappointed in those who have known about the issue and have only started acting because the world has finally become exposed to this monster.

That excludes most of you guys, but I had to vent. I'm excited about how this is spreading so quickly, and I hope we can put this beast behind bars soon.

^Lol this is so true. The feeling of the desire to help lasted for a week in my school.

EDIT: Umm...never mind then...I'm not agreeing with myself for the record. HenryP had a post removed.

Who ever deleted my posts, that was really unnecessary. They were valid points on how uninformed people are about this topic with a little humor added on.

I don't know if I'd call giving children guns funny. :/

I can see why. Give Kony 2012 a couple weeks, and I guarantee most people will be like "Who's Joseph Kony?". Its sad, but its probably not too farfetched of a claim.

People want to make a stink about something that's been going on for years, but don't even pay attention to the domestic problems at home that have been problems for just as long if not longer. It's not about putting a curtain up, it's about some people just trying to feel good about themselves for acting like they champion a cause across the planet that they can't do jack squat about. Oooh, you make a Facebook Status update, way to go -what a revolution.

Honestly, as horrible of a man Joseph Kony is, I can't help but feel too many people are just jumping on the bandwagon. While it's possible Invisible Children IS completely legitimate, there is so much going against it that it would be hard for me to give any monetary donation ...only around 30% of their donations actually go toward the cause. The rest of the money goes to paying the founders' salary, travel expenses, and to making their documentaries. The organization is also looked at unfavorably by the Better Business Bureau. I would rather find other ways to support the same cause than Invisible Children.

No independent organization ever has or will ever go without criticisms.

Yeah, but there are flaws. Kony has moved to Congo, while IC gives money to the government of Uganda.

We can't. The government can. The whole point of the movement is to get millions of people to make facebook updates and to create a giant bandwagon so the government actually feels the need to act. In case you haven't noticed, the government doesn't do "Jack squat" as yo uput it unless there's a giant bandwagon going behind it. Why did the civil rights movement happen? Because people protested and had a giant bandwagon. Why did women's suffrage happen? Same reason. Why do laws get passed period? Because the majority of the people want it to, and if the president or senators don't try to pass it, they don't get re-elected. If a bandwagon isn't created, Kony is just going to sit on his throne in Congo and keep doing whatever he wants to.
