.jpg sucks horribly. Heck, bitmap is even better than it. Everyone, like gliscor said, should use .png.

Jpeg is really only favored for a website that has many images. It is a very small file size, so the site loads faster. For the purpose of art, PNG is the best way to go, and it is the only file that allows Opacity, I believe. (I know that others allow transparency)
