In case anybody missed it in the OP, there are references to an "Adoption Shelter" in there.
Pretty much a second market that you can buy new pokemon from. Defeated player's pokemon will also become available here.

KoN, when you get ranks for winning a battle, do you have to apply them right away? or can you stack them?

They must be applied right away to pokemon you used in that battle.
