Standard Kingdra EX/Magnezone

Hi there. Now that I have been playing for a couple of months, I am really trying to build a solid Standard deck. My ideal goal with this deck is to take advantage of Magnezone's ability as early in the game as I can to set up Kindra(s) asap. My main concern is have enough or too much energy and not being able to take advantage of Magnezone's ability. Any advice would be great. I have such a good feeling with this deck and I am really hoping I can use it well.

A kingdra deck... fun!
I am by no means an expert, but I will try to help out by telling you what I see.

Pokemon:

Naturally you play 4 kingdra-ex.
But I do not understand why you play the Pikachu-ex, I feel like it has no place here at all.
The same goes for the raichu line, without skyfield raichu caps out at 100 damage ( if you take the "good" raichu, don't run the one from the break set).
Combined with a muscle band that is indeed enough to take out things like regice/safeguard carbink ( I take that this is the idea), but it feels clunky to basically spend 4 cards on this. I would suggest to cut the Pikachu-ex all together, and to replace the raichu line with either 1-2 raikou's or with 1-2 Ampharos-Ex cards.
You can charge up Amphoros-ex with magnezone, and it's second attack does 100 + 20 (muscleband) while ignoring all effects ( so it will hit through both safeguard AND resistance blizzard). Raikou can do the same as Amphoros-ex does, but has the advantage of only giving up a single prize card if it gets revenge-killed/lysandre'd out.
Personally I would also try to speed up the energy acceleration of the magnezone line a bit by running either 3-1-3 or 4-2-4 with rare candies ( with candies replacing the wally)

- 1 pikachu -ex
- 2 pikachu
-2 raichu

+ 1-2 Raikou/ + 1-2 Amphoros-EX.

OPTIONAL:
- 1-2 magneton
+ 0-1 magnemite
+0-1 magnezone

Trainers:

Obviously I would replace wally with rare candies to speed up the magnezone line.
Energy pouch is certainly a good tech as it allows you to load up the Kingdra's while being able to recycle those energies, but I feel there are other ways to get around energy problems.
Keep in mind however that the discarding of tools will probably become more prevalent with Garbodor showing up in multiple decks.
I would try to cut down the energy retrievals a bit and find room for something like 2 copies of fisherman.
Professor's letter is fine, 2 copies and clemont should give you what you need.

However, what you seem to lack is draw support for anything that is not energy.
There is a reason close to 90% of decks run 3-4 sycamore's 2-3 N and 4 ultra balls.
Those cards are amazing and will make it so much easier to find what it is that you need..

- 3 wally
- 3 energy retrieval
- 2 pokemon center lady
- 1 pokémon fanclub

+ 3 care candy
+ 2 fisherman
+3 -4 sycamore
+ 2-3 N
+ 4 ultra ball

OPTIONAL:

- 2 energy pouch
- 1 water energy
- 1/2 lightning energy.

With fisherman to retrieve energy from the discard I would either go with less lightning energies or skip on the energy pouches.

Just my thoughts, I hope they can be of use to you :)

Thank you for all of that information. It really is helpful! The only reason I had the Raichu was because the attack allows me to deal 50 damage to all my opponents EX plus it has free retreat. Ideally, if I am unable to get my Kingdra out quick enough or something I could attack each for the 50, back out, then repeat next turn. But I can understand using the Raikou, I willl most likely change that out. Also, I do have a question on the Rare Candy. Do I need to have the Second evolution if I run those? Or will they allow me to evolve from stage 1 all the way to 3?? I will add the Sycamore as you suggested as well, it didnt even dawn on me that I had no draw cards.

oh! and the Pikachu EX was simply to have another EX attacker. The only Electric ones i have other than Pikachu is Manectric.

The rare candy allows you to go from magnemite straight into magnezone ( provied you have magnemite benched and rare candy+ magnezone in your hand).
With decent drawpower it basically saves you a turn of setup, and considering the speed of the currentgame even 1 turn can be a big difference.
going magnemite -> rare candy -> magnezone. the magnetons are mostly there in case of either lucky drawing into them while not having a rare candy or ( most importantly!) so that itemlock decks like trevenant/vileplume/seismitoad cannot shut you down. So yes, you can skip magneton if you really want to and go 3-0-3 or 4-0-4-, but I really, REALLY, do not recommend this. You will see itemlocks, a lot, and if they happen, you will never get magnezone out and your whole strategy would fall into the water.

ok, thank you. I had been confused as to how they worked compared to Evosoda/Wally. I will for sure be adding the candies in place of the Wallys. Thanks for all your help. Im really excited to get out and try this deck. :)
