There are other, more creative, ways to graphically edit drawings.

creativity doesn't necessarily produce the right results though. Especially if you're attempting to emulate someone else's art style.

The whole point of creativity though, is for it to come from you. So, there wouldn't be an issue like that most likely.

Being creative means you don't force yourself to conform to certain things.

It's much more than simply "stuff coming from you".

in all actuality nothing is really original. it all comes from somewhere, it's just combing the several different ideas to produce something new. that is what "stuff coming from you" is all about.
also, the only way to convey what you want is to improve your skills. that requires study and practice. for example:

my fakemon look impressive because i've studied ken sugimori's old style. all the pokémon from the first and second gen look somewhat bland compared to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation. the first 251 also look natural, as if... they could actually be found in the wild.

the ruins of... something. from my region, the Novoh Region.

close, it's Mayan themed. That's sorta what I imagined the Ruins of Alph looking like when I played Gold version back in the day. And in HeartGold, it was kinda there.

There's generally 2 extreme views on originality I find. Some think the slightest amount of "new" or "different" signifies originality, while some thing the slightest amount of resemblance to something already existing implies lack of originality. The first point of view I find is more prevalent in indistry (otherwise you'd only get one of every type of "thing" out there in the market)

Regards to your fakemon, yeah I guess there is resemblance to sugimori style. Definitely room for improvement though. For a style that seems deceptively simple to imitate, sugimori's art style has some tricky aspects here and there. During my most recent attempt at his style, I made the mistake of setting the line too thick (I forgot that I was working at a higher resolution) and the result didn't look too pleasing when at full zoom. His recently-developed motif of smudging portions of shaded areas (see HGSS art) is also somewhat difficult.

Regards to the first 2 generation pokemon looking more natural, every generation has its own natural and unnatural pokemon. For every Wargle, Goldeen or Linoone out there, you'd also get a Magnemite, Baltoy or Bronzor

Also nice ruins drawing.

thanks ;)

But this thread could go on about the way his pokemon look. i don't know how to explain it, but... eh. oh well. some day maybe.
