Life and Death

I consider that being alive is the same that being conscious, and so, death is an endless and dreamless sleep. Although I´d like to believe in the afterlife, I simply can´t, as the consciousness is part of the brain´s functions and once we die, the brain stops working and we lose the consciousness. We disappear, just like that. I don´t know how to explain it better, but what I think is that when we die, it´s the end, there´s nothing more.

well thats a more physical look at death, idk when I look at death I'm not to sure, there has been alot of valid point's made by everyone scientist's, spiritualist's, people of religion, and people of other various idea's and belief's, but nobody really know's. so really I'll deal with death when i get that far, right now I don't care and why should I, I have a life to live. cya

I think both atheism and religion are silly. You can't prove either. Agnosticism ftw?
Just like you can't prove unicorns or fairies or invisible dragons don't exist, but what's the point in believing in them? I call myself an atheist for the simple reason that agnostic sounds like I either never really bothered to think about it, which is completely untrue, or like I don't care, which is also not true.

DNA, floods leave a deposit layer on the ocean floor, ships can't support that weight, and do you know how many species there are? And how there distribution and genetics make the flood hypothesis completely impossible?

Have to go now, would debate more otherwise, bye!

Don't go killing me with your Christianity here, I am Christian to a small extent, but I think Noah's Arc is literally the stupidest thing ever thought of. You really think that there's proof of that? Anyway, to me death is a mystery better left unsolved. I personally believe in reincarnation, but nobody should ever know. Just live life to its fullest while you can, don't worry about something like death. Heaven and Hell are dumb to me for this reason: so most people say it would be horrible to live forever, right? Well what's teh stinking difference with being in Heaven or Hell forever!!!?? And DO NOT call me atheist. I don't believe in many Christian things like Heaven, but I still believe in a higher being, or beings somewhere out there.

That would make you a theist, not a Christian.

I didn't say I was Christian. I just celebrate Christian Holidays. But that doesn't mean I'm athiest. An athiest is someone that doesn't believe in a God, which I do.

?_?

You can't be part Christian, part something else.

The agnostic doesn't believe in those things though. He just accepts that it's impossible to rationally speculate on the existence of something which cannot (currently) be empirically or analytically verified. I believe that the Universe could have sprang into existence of its own accord, but as creating all of existence is not a requirement for you to be an almighty being (that exists outside of our own Universe), there's still room for a God.

You shouldn't base your beliefs on what others might interpret them as. ;( Although I personally wouldn't agree that the public opinion views agnosticism in such a way.

How do I base my beliefs on that? I believe it is logically very implausible for a God to exist, but I don't rule out the possibility. I'm skeptical towards the existence of God as I am to the existence of Harry Potter (both of which are obviously fictional characters), but I'm not going to go around calling myself an agnoPotterist just because there's this very small possibility he does really exist. My believes are unchanged by what I call myself, and I think you'll find that every atheist on the planet agrees with me on this. If evidence of a God arises, I shall believe, I would be silly not to, but until then, I'll gladly call myself an atheist (and an aPotterist for that matter).

Belief: Very, very skeptical agnost
What I call myself: atheist, shorter and more to the point. Sounds less cowardish and debate-avoiding as well. "Oh, your crazy story writting in the stone age which contradicts the whole of science MIGHT POSSIBLY be right" is giving theists way too much credibility.

I'm an agnostic because it isn't because I don't think about it, or that I don't care about it. It's because by logic, science can't be completely right, and neither can religion. There are some things that science cannot explain, and the same goes for religion. That's why I'm in between. Scampy hit it right on the dot:

I feel happy to know that I wasn't the one that ended up derailing the topic this badly. ahahahaha

XD DNA

I don't really like these kinds of topics tbh, just because I have to actually think about what happens when I die, which has always been a touchy subject for me. I'd like to believe there's a heaven/he|| or in other words, an afterlife, but I don't know for sure how all that works, so I can't say.

dmaster out.

I'm greatly offended by this thread, and the Athiests trying to prove a point, I just had to let this out. I feel that some of you Athiests on here just want to go out and call Christians fools. I'm Christian btw, so I belive in Heaven and the other place, and have heard of literature in which people have gone to both places and came back to life. I've heard of books that are about that.

Sorry to offend but this is a great topic that people find interesting.

Okay, I don't want this to turn into a flame war, but I would just like to point out that most atheists are atheists not to call Christians Fools, but because the belief that there is a god seems a bit absurd to them. Like Spoon, I have thought about the possible existence. However, currently I believe in god as if he were Harry Potter. If any absolute evidence that there actually is a god were to become discovered, I would most likely believe, as (to quote spoon) it would be silly not to. However, until that happens, I will keep my current beliefs.

gengar the baller - Just because there are books about the subject does not necessarily mean it is true. The bible is not necessarily true, and it's a book.

Well I am a Christian, but I feel that when you die it is pretty much feel the same when you are sleeping, but not having a dream. Not having any thought of anything.
