The reason that Great Mew is good is because it starts the pressure really early. My builds go off and on with Mew... it really changes the feel of the deck a little bit. What is fantastic about Mew is that it starts the pressure really early, and keeps it up all game. You will NEVER be spreading with Gar. I've found that if you run an ultra consistent build, you will rarely ever get enough Gar in play. You need to Hunter about every turn... so you will rarely have a free supporter drop. While Mew does get OHKO'd easily, it will definitely go 1-for-1 almost all the time. More than that, a good LostGar build will rarely get more than 3 Gar in play. If you cannot (for who knows why) keep up with the prize/LZ trade playing only Gar, you lose. Like with most Mew decks, however, once Gengar hits the LZ, it is a 1-for-1 trade the rest of the game. Once you get your two Gars out, you may as well be named the winner. You will continue that trade while your opponent will be low on resources and probably have to do a 1-for-2 trade. GG
^Please remember to state WHY. Absol G X is a really bad card. When you do the math... it will have a very low success rate. The LostGar build that I have had the most success with plays Mew and a 3-2-3-1 of Gengar. A lot of people in my area (California too) like Dialga... so the X is a must... (sadface). If you do not see any dialga, don't play the X because it really does not help against anything else. I practiced a bit with some stuff... but found that a standard build is best. You can go for a 1-0-1 or a 1-1-1 omastar if you are uncomfortable, but that is really up to you. I avoid playing Spiritomb because my hunters are really more important to me. I play 1 or 2 Mesprit (hard call) to threaten their Uxies. Nobody likes dropping an Uxie for nothing, so they may consider handing it. If they do, it gets LZ'd. If they don't, it is an uxie for nothing. If you don't play mesprit, I might suggest 1 or 2 tomb (and perhaps a Mime for teh lulz). Don't be getting real techy. If ANYTHING AT ALL prevents you from attacking with Mew or Gar, it is a bad card. Palkia G X may work to end the game, but it is REALLY BAD as far as midgame goes. You either need a point or a warp energy ASAP... gengar does not like to play either. Just ensure that you're going an economic build that takes full advantage of Huntered Uxies. Huntering a Spiritomb is really stupid unless you are in a good position. My build plays heavy Junk Arm, a few VS Seeker, and Max Hunter. You will rarely get a chance to Hunter Mesprit or Spiritomb... but I prefer Mesprit when you get a chance (also it is good for saving Gars from near KO).
Also, why do you guys even think that spreading damage may be a good idea? At no point in the game should you be using Miasma or Great Absol. Both of which cut you from resources. Doing the spread attack on Gar will give you less than a good prize-LZ ratio. If you cannot LZ anything, you may want to spread, but there is no reason you should bank on spreading. You may as well be playing for prizes then. If you do that, you will lose for sure. Jirachi UL is stupid because it simply devolves them... then ends your turn. The only reason to do that is to KO by basic not having HP... AND THE BASIC WOULD GO TO DISCARD. Read Gengar's body, guys. Absol prime is bad just because it doesn't do anything to promote your goals. It doesn't LZ anything... nor can it. Its body is cumbersome because it requires it to be active DURING YOUR OPPONENT'S TURN. The attack is lame because it requires an energy that Gengar is completely unable to use. Don't be THAT stupid guys >.<
