Pretty new to Pokemon but I've got an extensive history with Yugioh and Magic. I've been playing this TCG for a little over a month now but I've been going to multiple tournaments every weekend and constantly topping, taking 1st out of 32 on the 27th at a 20th Anniversary event. I've mostly been keeping up with the meta in Expanded, so I'd be glad to hear from somebody with experience with bigger events. What should I be expecting to see besides Yveltal, Seismitoad, Trevenant, Night March, Mega Mewtwo, Mega Manectric and Primal Groudon? Is it worth the slot to tech a Dedenne (Furious Fists) into this list?

Pokemon: 20
  • 3 Lucario EX
  • 3 Hawlucha
  • 4 Zubat
  • 4 Goldbat
  • 3 Crobat
  • 2 Shaymin EX
  • 1 Jirachi
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 30
  • 4 Super Scoop Up
  • 4 Professor Sycamore
  • 4 VS Seeker
  • 3 Fighting Stadium
  • 3 Korrina
  • 3 Level Ball
  • 2 Ultra Ball
  • 2 Fighting Fury Belt
  • 1 Muscle Band
  • 1 Computer Search
  • 1 Professor's Letter
  • 1 AZ
  • 1 Lysandre
Energy: 1o
  • 6 Fighting Energy
  • 4 Strong Energy
Strategy:

PS. All of the Lucario variants that I've been reading about lately in tournament reports favor hammers and control utilities over the bat line. Does anybody have experience with that?

Take out computer search for another Ultra Ball. This is because computer search is expanded. Other than that, this is a very solid list I have think.

Add focus sash. Hawlucha will appreciate it when he can hit two turns in a row for 80-100 dmg per turn with a sash. I'd also drop 1 hawlucha for 1 landerous. He's great for building up your lucario's.

First of take out computer search it is not legal for standard and replace it with A super rod (for recovery of Pokemon and energy). Next I would cut down the the level balls to just one and max out your ultra ball count this will allow you to easily garb anything in the deck especial shaymins which are needed for the deck to setup quickly. Next I would cut one fighting energy (with super rod you can get away with as little as 4 energy.) , one golbat, a korrina, and a hawlucha for 4 trainer mails this will allow you to quickly dig through your deck. It woulden't be a bad idea to consider adding a enhanced hammer, focus sash, gioviani schemes, and or hex maniac though you will have to find room for them if you want.(these options are techy and up to personal preference.

As for running Lucario and hawlucha with hammers I have been messing around with it seems to work well although I would personally pair it with the break point garbodor (ability lock) or pair it with the break point slowking to mess with there energys.

p.s I personally like the slowking variant a bit more due to having more a trolly feel but that is just me both variants work well.

Another deck to add to your above list is Greninja; it is formidable.

Another staple worthy to include is Startling Megaphone (to remove opponent's Tools), as well as Hex Maniac (to shut down Abilities (*) through to the end of your opponent's next turn) should you choose not to incorporate Garbodor. Both of these cards have been very useful to me.

(*) Don't forget to play all your cards with Abilities first before playing the Hex Maniac... lol.

I agree wholeheartedly. Startling megaphone (or xerosic or both) and hex maniac are staples right now in any deck that can afford the space or use their benefits properly.

Having bats and frogs in the same Lucario-EX deck seems inconsistent and unfocused. I agree with the startling megaphone and Hex Maniac though.

My comment regarding Greninja was responding to the OP's question regarding other decks likely to be encountered.
