Strategy:

Pretty simple. Lucario with Fighting energy. Mass damage. Hawlucha for quick easy damage and Gallade in the discard if you need an extra boost.

My son's deck, so any advise would be appreciated.

Swap out the gallades for breakpoint garchomps and the DCE's for for an extra fighting energy and vs seeker.

What do breakpoint garchomps do?

I added Double Coloress energy in case he goes against a psychic deck so he can attack with Shamymin EX

What do breakpoint garchomps do?
The breakpoint garchomps has two attacks the first one does 60 damage for one fighting energy and allows you to attach any energy card (including special energy) from your discard pile to one of your bench Pokémon. Garchomps second attack does 80 for two fighting energy and deals 80 more when attack Pokémon EX so 160 damage against Pokémon EX for 2 energy and that damage is easily boost able due to it being a fighting type. It also is weak to grass and has free retreat and has 130 hp.

With only 1 battle compressor, 3 ultra ball and 2 sycamore it is hard to get gallade/garchomp.
- 1 Hex maniac
- 1 Lysandre
- 1 Professors birch observation.
+1 VS seeker
+ 1 battle compressor
+ 1 Sycamore

I dont know why he has 2 for Hex Manic in his deck. I know he does not run two. This deck is very OP. I've tried stall decks and item/energy removal decks against it and it is very hard to compete against. Any recommendations on decks to test him against would be helpful. Maybe some sort of psychic deck or Yveltal?

I can give you my deck list, it's a M Mewtwo EX Y-version deck (with Psychic Infinity).
I noticed a lot of people played it with the Photon Wave - Mewtwo EX and combined it with Yveltal (baby) to do small damage while charging the benched (M) Mewtwo EX. I played it only with Psychic Energy, the Shatter Shot - Mewtwo EX (who has also the Damage Change attack) and put in some Shrine of Memories.
Here's my deck list that gave me the 5th place on a City Championship and a 2nd place at a League Challenge. Also: I played 2 mirror matches (against those M Mewtwo - darkness decks). Of those two matches I tied one and won the other one. Here you go!

Pokémon (8):
3 Mewtwo EX (BKT 158/162)
3 M Mewtwo EX (BKT 160/162)
1 Hoopa EX (AOR 89/98)
1 Shaymin EX (ROS 106/108)

Trainer (40):
1 Battle Compressor
1 Escape Rope
1 Evosoda
4 Mega Turbo
1 Professor's Letter
1 Repeat Ball
1 Switch
4 Trainers' Mail
2 Ultra Ball
4 VS Seeker
1 Giovanni's Scheme
1 Hex Maniac
1 Judge
2 Lysandre
2 Professor Birch's Observations
3 Professor Sycamore
1 Skyla
1 Xerosic
1 Dimension Valley
2 Shrine of Memories
3 Mewtwo Spirit Link
1 Weakness Policy
1 Head Ringer

Energy (12):
2 Mystery Energy (special)
4 Double Colorless Energy (special)
6 Psychic Energy (basic)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know I use a lot of different trainers, but it worked out pretty well for me.
Any questions or suggestions are always welcome.
@PokeDad5 this is a psychic deck list, it may come in handy to test against your son's deck for Weakness.
For changes on your son's deck, I'd make the deck more like this:

Pokémon (8):
2 Lucario EX (FFI 107/111)
2 Hawlucha (FFI 63/111)
1 Shaymin EX (ROS 106/108)
1 Gallade (BKT 84/162)
2 Garchomp (BKP 70/122)

Trainer (42):
1 Professor's Letter
1 Focus Sash
3 Battle Compressor
3 Fighting Stadium
3 Korrina
1 Town Map
4 Ultra Ball
3 Muscle Band
3 Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick
4 Trainers' Mail
2 Lysandre
4 VS Seeker
1 Tool Retriever
1 Hex Maniac
4 Professor Sycamore
1 Startling Megaphone
1 Enhanced Hammer
2 Judge

Energy (10):
4 Strong Energy
6 Fighting Energy

But it's a personal choice of course ;)
