Standard M-Scizor EX

Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum, so if I did anything wrong, please point it out to me!

I've been building a M-Scizor EX deck, but it probably can do with some optimisations. Let's start with the decklist:

Pokemon (10)
  • 4x Scizor EX
  • 3x MScizor EX
  • 2x Tapu Lele GX
  • 1x Tauros GX
Trainers (40)
  • 2x Field Blower
  • 4x VS Seeker
  • 4x Ultra Ball
  • 4x Sycamore
  • 2x Super Rod
  • 3x Max Elixir
  • 3x Trainer Mail
  • 2x Switch
  • 1x Brigitte
  • 2x Altar of the Sunne
  • 2x Delinquent
  • 1x Hex Maniac
  • 2x Lysandre
  • 2x Skyla
  • 2x Scizor Spirit Link
  • 2x Professor's Letter
  • 2x Choice Band
Energy
  • 10x Metal Energy
Strategy
The strategy seems simple. Get MScizor EX out as soon as possible. Preferably with Scizor Spirit Link to avoid ending the turn. Then proceed to smash the enemy with either Scizor EX swapping out to use his 2M attack or swap out MScizor for that lovely 120 damage which is barely resisted.

Altar of the Sunne is there to eliminate weakness vs Fire, but seeing as I barely came across fire decks, I did -1 Altar of the Sunne and +1 Delinquent. This is due to how I've gotten repeatedly card blocked by a couple of "mill" style decks which kept Stadium + Delinquenting me. I must say it's been rather effective.

I've discovered a bit of a neat interaction with Scizor Spirit Link, Field Blower and Choice Band. Initially I made the mistake of adding the Choice Bands in as I didn't know the Spirit Links were items you attach to your Pokemon. However, after sitting there for a good two minutes to try and figure out how to do 150 damage with MScizor, I decided to try to evolve into MScizor with SSL attached, and then Field Blower it only to replace it with Choice Band. Well, that worked and it seems to be something people don't yet account for in my ELO range.

This is also why I have Skyla in. In order to get that combination off, I do need the support of a reliable item search to find the missing combo piece(s). Skyla does this perfectly. She's been quite clutch to get that combo piece, or rather some consistency in also getting either Sycamore, Elixir, Ultra Balls and Letters. Though I do think it's not really required to run more than 2, as I also run Tapu Lele x2 and VS Seeker x4. Hell, I want to get two FA's of her asap.

Brigitte is in there to help me get more Scizor's or my lonely Tauros on the bench, less costly than Ultraball, which also allows me to open up the Ultra Balls for Tapu Lele/MScizor hunting. I feel I should increase her to 2x though. Thoughts?

Switch is in there to abuse Scizor's second ability. Although I'm finding it not used as often as I'd like, but it's a free retreat for damaged Pokemon and does enable the silly 110 Scizor move if I somehow don't have SSL + MScizor available.

Max Elixir has been incredibly consistent, and I think I'd like to up it to 4x.

Hex Maniac was hella expensive to trade for, but I've yet to find a proper use for it outside of an odd Greninja Deck that abused its Water Shuriken ability to KO my Zoroark (different deck, Espeon/Umbreon/Zoroark mix). I expect it to be useful vs Vileplume or Garbodor, but they seem far and few in between?

The one inclusion I think is easily replaced is Professor's Letter. I really like its consistency to provide me with Energy, especially as it can be found with Skyla and then returned with VS Seeker, but then again I do have Super Rods to help me fish Energy back out of the discard pile.

Addition considerations so far
  • +2 Scizor Spirit Link
  • +1 Max Elixir
  • +1 MScizor
  • +1 Brigitte
  • +4 Shauna
  • +1 Basic Pokemon?
  • +? Double Colourless Energy?
  • +? Professor Kukui?
Removal considerations so far
  • -4 Sycamore
  • -1 Hex Maniac
  • -2 Professor's Letter
Reasoning behind considerations
The removal of Sycamore is probably something people would burn me at the stake for. But its more or less preparation for the removal of VS Seeker. I'm not entirely sure on when the rotation is happening, but as far as I know there is no immediate replacement for VS Seeker. Might as well get used to not dumping everything into the discard pile and a little less hand return through Shauna. It also helps support Skyla a bit more I feel, as she can't go through the discard pile but only your deck.

Hex Maniac is just a card I don't really get use out of. It's mostly an Ultra Ball discard fodder. This could be due to me being a noob. I've been playing for close to two weeks now, so yeah.

Professor's letter seems overkill, and I feel I'm better off taking an extra Max Elixir which seems to do just as much for consistency as the Letter does.

I really like the Professor Kukui effect, that 20 clutch damage has saved me a lot of times in my other deck. I would like to find a way to get 2 copies of him in, but it seems hard to make room for.

VS Seeker is currently still too good to get rid of, especially in combination with Sycamore, but I wonder if I should start finding a replacement for it already..

End
If you made it to here, thank you very much. I hope there's some feedback you have for me, or deck suggestions. I'm currently at a 7-1 W/L ratio, which is probably just beginners luck, but I really like the deck and all the sneaky combo's I can get in for that lovely burst damage. Let me know what you think and hopefully I get to improve my deck!

Remove all brigette, doesn't work well with EX's or Lele's, and with how you're trying to switch tools I might recommend more field blowers over any delinquents as mscizor removes stadiums. I think you should add a dhelmise or 2 as they add 10 dmg to steel
