Hi to all!!

This is my very first post here :) I really like the TCG, but I am a beginner... So please share your opinions with me!
I am planning to build a deck that uses the Magmortar/Electrive combo for XY. It is based in this thread: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-nxd-on-bro-power-magmortar-electivire-mewtwo-ex

Here is what I am planning for my deck:

Pokemon: 15

  • Mewtwo EX - 2
    Magmar - 3
    Magmortar - 3
    Electabuzz - 3
    Electivire - 3
    Dedenne - 1
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 30

  • Scramble Switch - 1
    Switch - 2
    Evosoda - 2
    Muscle Band - 3
    Professor's Letter - 2
    Ultra Ball - 4
    Fiery Torch - 2
    Blacksmith - 2
    Professor Sycamore - 3
    N - 2
    Skyla - 2
    Pokemon Fan Club - 1
    Lysandre - 2
    Training Center - 2

Energy: 15

  • Fire - 8
    Electric - 3
    DCE - 4

STRATEGY:
My idea is, well, attack :) (DECK EDITED TO USE BLACKSMITH)

Magmortar is the main sweeper with the help of electrivire. Magmorta's flame charge comes very handy, and DCE fiery torch and blacksmith should do the trick. Electivire can also be an awesome sweeper if you have two complete magomartar's (200 atk!). Mewtwo will help with DCE when things get ugly, and Deddene is there to to lookup basics (which I think is just awesome) or to some extent, to make some decent damage (or finish of) with 1 energy birdish things like Yveltal, or Pokemon that uses a lot of energy.

Training Center allows more hp to magmortar and electrivire (maybe other stadium can help more) and Sycamore, fiery torch and N is the draw power. Switch can be useful when you have 1 electrivire and 1 almost dead magmortar only or viceversa. Muscle Band adds power to magmortar and electrivire (even mewtwo can use it :p).

I think this is a nice deck that can put pressure to the Virizion/Genesect deck (which is popular). And, also, Mewtwo can help to take out fighting pokemon. I put only 3 lighting energy because electrive iss the only one that needs it (only one per Electrivire).

NOTE: Garbodor looks nice to this deck (taking out Dedenne, maybe one Mewtwo EX, and some trainers) if someone has tried it, please tell me their experience with the deck! thank you!

Opinions are welcome!!

NOTE2: Thanks to ravetrade for sharing info and opinions with me!
Edited to coincide with the rules! :D ~Kecleon

-1 Fire energy
+1 DCE
You only ever need the one fire energy to pull off Magmortar's attack, and Mewtwo and Electivire (attach DCE to Magmortar) benefit hugely from DCE's.

-2 Giant Cape
+2 Float Stone
You'll want the Float Stones for your Garbodor in case it gets pulled out and is still alive to retreat it.

-1 Blacksmith
+1 N/Juniper
I feel like you could use a hand reshuffler instead of Blacksmith since you wont have as many Fire energies.

Things to consider: I'd buff up the Garbodor line to 2-2 or drop him altogether. Your deck can certainly benefit from him since you don't use any abilities. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Mewtwo EX since you run a bunch of DCE's, but you might be able to remove one if you need room for other things. Another issue I see is you only have 2 cards that will search out your basics (1 Ultra Ball, 1 Fan Club). I would think to either buff up your Ultra Balls or bring a Dedenne/Emolga. This is a cool little deck, and I like Electivire/Magmortar's synergy.

Here is what I am planning for my deck:

Pokemon: 17

  • Mewtwo EX - 2
    Magmar - 3
    Magmortar - 3
    Electabuzz - 3
    Electivire - 3
    Trubbish - 2
    Garbodor - 1
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 30

  • Scramble Switch - 1
    Switch - 2
    Evosoda - 3
    Muscle Band - 3
    Professor's Letter - 2
    Random Receiver - 2
    Ultra Ball - 1
    Blacksmith - 1
    Professor Sycamore - 3
    N - 3
    Skyla - 2
    Pokemon Fan Club - 1
    Lysandre - 2
    Training Center - 2
    Giant Cape - 2
Energy: 13

  • Fire - 6
    Electric - 4
    DCE - 3

My idea is, well, attack :) ! I want Garbodor to nullify abilities. I was planning to remove Mewtwo EX, but I am not sure of that...

Also, I am not sure if I am running the right trainers for this deck. So please share your opinions with me, It is garbodor a good idea? It is this deck (at least the idea) competitive?

Also I have a question about rotations: If a pokemon is reprinted in an accepted rotation, but m ycard (same pokemon card) is from an expasion that is out of rotation, can I still use the out of rotation card and It will be legal? Someone told me that this is true for trainer cards.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Kecleon,

What was wrong with my deck? I mean, what was not ok according to the rules??

Hi, thanks for your reply!
I edited my deck with some of your suggestions. What do you think now? I have 18 pokemon. Is that ok? I want to take out garbodor line... But is just seems right to nullify abilities... What you will do?? Also, I dont have too much draw power (aside N and Sycamore) you think that I will have problem with this? And last request, can you answer my question about rotations?

It's really down to consistency... while the Garbodor goes hand-in-hand with non-ability decks, it might clutter up your deck. If you think about it, removing Garbodor would open up 6 slots (2-2 Garbodors and 2 Float Stones) that could be used to get your Magmortar/Electivire combo up quicker (More Ultra Balls and N/Sycamore). It all really boils down to what you want to do in the deck; both directions have their pros/cons and might need some play testing to see which you like better.

I meant to answer your rotation question last time, but I got distracted before I got to it, heh. Yes, you can use a card from a set that's been rotated out as long as it's been reprinted (with the exact same name) in a set that's currently legal. If the card has had its text changed (like in the case of Pokemon Catcher, where a coin flip is now required), the newest text is used, and in tournament settings, a reference card should be supplied. This pretty much only applies to trainer cards. In the case of Pokemon themselves, there's rarely been a case of being able to use an old card in place of a new one.

Thanks for the rotation answer! I edited my deck, So it goes like this:
Magmortar is the main sweeper with the help of electrivire. Mewtwo will help with DCE when things get ugly, and Deddene is there to to lookup basics (which I think is ust awesome). or to some extent, to make some decent damage (or finish of) with 1 energy things like Yveltal and other mewtwo EX.

Also, I have 7 fire energy to play with the discard pile thanks to Sycamore, fiery torch and Blacksmith. I really like the deck now! What do you think?

No too shabby. I would personally change the Scramble Switch to either Computer Search or Dowsing Machine (this one, IMO).

Maybe even drop the switches because even if they drag up an Electivire from your bench, only one Electric energy and it can do some massive damage (including OHKO everything but Megas if you've got two fully prepared Magmortars on the bench), but I can understand if you're hesitant about that. If you do agree, I would up any of these: Ultra Ball, N, Sycamore or even Colress.

I would drop Random Receiver and just add supporters instead, but you can keep one to Skyla yourself out of a dead hand next turn.

These are all just my opinions because at this point, I do believe you have a pretty workable deck ready for playtesting!

Ok, thank you! I want to try the switch flavor, but I added up one ultra ball and one sycamore (N cost $$$ :( ). When I ll have time, I will begin to build the deck. thanks!

No problem; hope it works out for you. Also, might want to edit your strategy text to match your most recent deck list. :)
