What has also escalated the topic of zombies is linked to the U.S.'s fears of a bio-terrorist attack which has been on the minds of alot of people since 9/11.

You're joking, right? 9/11? That's so absurd and silly. America (and other countries) are entertained with the topic of zombies because it's creative. To say that 9/11 had more effect on the zombie craze than Frankenstien, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Night of the Living Dead, Resident Evil, etc, is absurd. All of those came long before 9/11.

I just googled Scopolamine, and that is some scary stuff. There are no words to describe what that does. I'm extremely thankful that it is so rare in the United States.

What I was trying to say is that bio-terrorism may one day make the idea of zombies become a reality with some kind of pandemic or a virus. But you're right, zombie fiction has been in the media since the 70's it's just that it's gotten too much exposure nowadays.

This is extremely scary stuff, but luckily it isn't a contagious or spreadable virus. I really do enjoy Zombie-themed media such as The Walking Dead or other shows along those lines but it has become so mainstream in the media that people are freaking out about this incident and others like it.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has already confirmed that a zombie apocalypse is not imminent cause there is not a known virus or condition that would reanimate the dead. What has also escalated the topic of zombies is linked to the U.S.'s fears of a bio-terrorist attack which has been on the minds of alot of people since 9/11.

The way I see it, you don't have to be "reanimating the dead" to have a zombie. Anyone remember that Will Smith movie I am Legend? Those weren't dead people, those were infected live people. (I'm going by the movie not the book. I don't know what happened in the book or how everyone turned into vampires/zombies in the book) A zombie could very well be a crazy cannibalistic person. All you really need is a lack of (a sense of) right or wrong, so drugs like this "bath salt" or even scopolamine. Basically, add some irresponsible person and alcohol to the mix, and you've pretty much got a zombie-ish thing right there. I'm not saying every person on this "bath salt" thing is going to go do alcohol while doing the drug, but it sure as heck could happen given the fact that a lot of drugs come out of parties and everyone knows that parties are notorious for drunk kids and adults alike. You get someone with this drug in a big party, you've got 5 to 20 people doing this WITH the alcohol.
Another possibility is if this thing gets out, assuming it's medical only, and gets popular like heroin or marijuana or something. Then we can start worrying about this.

I think there's quite a difference between what's considered a "zombie" by media terms and what happened to this guy... in most media, a Zombie outbreak is caused by a disease which causes humans to "reanimate" and search for human brains, this poor guy just happened to get some serious stuff in him, which caused him to act without thinking, and ended up eating someone. The difference is this was caused by strange effects of some drugs, the large-scale zombie outbreaks would be caused by a disease, or plague, of sorts.
