Hey guys. I love Mario Party and I hope you guys do too. Six is my favorite game in the series. Seven was kinda wacky but still pretty good, and eight was also a solid entry.

And then Mario Party 9 happened. I pirated it and not a day goes by that I'm not thankful I did.

I recently rented Island Tour, hoping it was like Nintendo's way of saying, "We're sorry Mario Party 9 sucked so badly. We realize now that we shouldn't try to fix what wasn't broken; here's a new Mario Party to show you how sorry we are."

Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. Island Tour is less about the swindling and deception of past titles and seems to focus on a race-to-the-finish style of gameplay. There are no bonus stars and, with one exception (possibly two, as I did not unlock all the boards), all you have to do is reach the end first and win. I was very disappointed.

I'm hoping that Mario Party 10 will go back to the tried and true formula they used for the first eight games, but after playing Island Tour, I'm a bit wary.

Are there any other Mario Party fans out there? Have you played Island Tour? How do you feel about the series' drastic departure from the style of game play that makes this game what it's been since day one?

DON'T BUY ISLAND TOUR

just wanted to get that out there. I have it, and it's such a waste of time. I go to league each weekend to play Mario Party, and it only took them two sessions before they saw that Island Tour sucked monkeys. Minigames are great, though.

I'll just be sticking with the tried-and-true Mario Party DS, as all my friends have chosen. It may not have much variety as games like Mario Party 8, but it still has the same classic playstyle. Island Tour is just awful; only the Bowser board really can make use of the stupid start-to-finish gimmick.

My friend: "I thought about getting Island Tour, but then I figured 'DNA will have it'."
Me: "Don't waste your money. It's bad."

And then every time I tried to describe it, they replied with "so, it's like Mario Party 9". Yeah, big flop. I'm hoping that if they make another Mario Party, handheld or otherwise, that they wise up to just how bad they've been and put everything back to normal.

Has anybody who's played Mario Party really a fan of the bloodsucking experience provided with every 25-turn game?

/me raises hand.

I've been a huge Mario Party fan after I played Mario Party 5 (yeah I know, a lot of people didn't like it, but I did tremendously). Despite the fact that every game in any Mario Party I've played makes everyone in the room as pissed off as possible, it's still a boatload of fun.

I've only actually played 5, 7, 9, and Island Tour, with 5 being by far my favorite. But on the topic of Island Tour...just...WHY?! The entire thing (except the minigames) feels like a combination of the all worst board ideas Nintendo could come up with. The generic, star collecting formula was old, but it worked. Race to the finish feels pointless and stupid.

It's rare when I play a game that I truly don't like; most of the time, I just don't enjoy it as much as my other games. I may actually never pick up Island Tour again except maybe to let my friends see how it is. Do better, Nintendo. If they make a Wii U Mario Party, they better get their act together.

Six is a really solid entry. The minigames are fun, there are plenty of characters to choose from, and (most importantly of all) the boards are fun. The day/night mechanic and how it affects literally everything is also quite fun.

Seven's mic minigames left something to be desired, but it was still pretty fun. Windmillville had a unique idea that eight really improved upon.

What I'd like to see in Mario Party 10 is a way to play each stage's gimmicks on each stage. So basically, each stage would have different versions depending on how you wanted to play, like if you wanted a standard board with no tricks, you would have more options than just the default stage. If you wanted to get ruined on the Bowser stage, you could pick any stage for it.

Two and three actually have some fun boards and cool games. It's hard for me to deal with only being able to hold one item, though.

edit: I also want to say that Island Tour really does have some fun minigames. If Island Tour had used the traditional MP formula it would easily be a top tier entry.

Mario Party 4 has it's own little place in mah heart. Or mind, or memories, or whichever sounds the least mushy. Love the music, love the games, and the Koopa board still remains to this day, my favorite board. Though I haven't played it in years since nobody cares to sit around for a whole party. =C

I wish that Three would get on the Wii U Virtual console.

Three also has three item storage. :>

Also I need One for some d'oh I missed.

That's why I play it, you dolt.

I can agree with this. The minigames in Island Tour are superb, though they're all 4-player minigames - there are no team minigames, which is a pity, and the gimmick discourages ties.

I only have handhelds so my repertoire is only two games, though I have been watching an LP of Mario Party 8 and it looks so good.

Mic minigames in general leave much to be desired. When playing with friends, I always turn the ones requiring it off, because there's only one (Short Fuse) that is any good...though Short Fuse is very good.

Anyone remember the Mario Party e-Reader game? Is it any good? Remember having it as a kid, but never got to play it since I could never keep the cards in one place.

Anyways, it costs $40 now. It was $15 last year. Guess who passed it up? ;-;

I've had 2, 4, 5 and 8. I really liked 4 and 5, as they come with extra mini-games and I like the Cars you can make in 5.
I didn't like the Ticket thing in 8, as you have to play the game 354234535 times to get everything and PM is one of those games I'd only really play once or twice, as my brother is the only one who'll play it with me and even then he gets bored halfway through.

Not sure how accurate this is, but...

How laughable. Might this be it for Mario Party?

Island Tour really is a horrible, horrible game.

I'll keep faith until Mario Party 10. If the sales of this jank game are any indication, Nintendo will fire the hell out of whoever's responsible for Nine and Island Tour and get with the program and deliver an amazing game for the Wii U.

Otherwise yeah I will probably swear off this series forever and/or pirate the game when it becomes possible.

Thank you guys so much for saying how island tour is. I was getting ready to buy that game....

I have played Mario Party 1-3 and I liked Mario Party 1. I owned Mario Party 4 but no longer have the disc since when we moved we had to put it in storage. I do have Mario Party DS and that ones is Fully completed minus the record times but everything is unlocked including the boards the mini games and all 70+ trophies.:)

So is a Mario Party 10 for the Wii U confirmed?

And are the original Mario Parties on the eShop?

If so I am blind because I have not seen them and my local GameStop doesn't have any copies. I want to at least get 8 to show my son how awesome they used to be because we got Island Tour and as an older player who was around for Mario Party's birth that game is an abomination and quite frankly a cruel rip off for anyone expecting an actual Mario Party game from past experiences.

As far as I can tell there are no Mario Parties on the Wii U or 3DS eshop, but Mario Party 8 is available for like $20 on ebay, and I'm sure many of the earlier ones would be available there, too.

Mario Party 10 is confirmed, having been announced at E3 this year.

Some recommendations: avoid 9 and Island Tour like the plague. Eight is okay, and everything before that is aces.
