From the P!P Website:
WHAT IS THE TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE?

The tournament is run using the Modified (MD-on) Format and Swiss plus Single Elimination.

The National Championships will be broken into groups by age divisions and will be run using Swiss Pairings. Because Swiss rounds are dependent upon total attendance of each age division, Swiss rounds will be announced on site. Swiss rounds will feature one-game matches.

After the final round of Swiss, the top players from each age division (depending on attendance levels) will move into a single-elimination round. Single-elimination rounds will be a best-of-three game format and will have a 60-minute time limit per match.

National Championships events have a K-Value of 32. For more information on K-Value and Ratings and Rankings, click here.

So it is MD-On for nationals, discuss!

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

*starts building Sabledonk*

It's that or Luxchomp for me. I love playing overused decks.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

I guess this rules out the mid-season rotation (as if it wasn't obvious).

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

Well, I am either playing Luxchomp or Dialgachomp, both with 2-3 Sableye in them.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

Ya, I doubted the Mid-season rotation. I've just hoped for the ban of Sableye

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

Thats what I hope. I hope everyone thinks donks are a dumb way to win, and the mirror just relys on luck, and nobody plays it.

I have a dream. jk.

unfortunately that will never happen, and even if people do, they will still donk you if they get a chance

sabledonk wont win nats, but it will be the most annoying deck there
beating several very skilled players essentially by coin flip

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

What the heck?! The national format is different than the regionals format?! Thats unprecedented. I wonder if its a typo?

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

site is down =/
and @amisheskimoninja, what format was different at regionals?.. every BR, and States I went to this year was also this format of MD-on and swiss pairings with best of 3 single eliminations for top cut, regionals was the same.

sabledonk... eww. I hope somebody with Arceus wins.. just by the ability to have a full bench at the start of the game. it's like.. "bwahaha, I have 6 pokemon out, and a spiritomb is my active. good luck doing absolutely nothing while I ripple swell the second you KO Spiritomb" or something to that effect. unfortunately, I've been playing around with an 22 Arceus build (5 being lv X).. and not having as many spots for trainers/supporters hurts alot. and for some reason, single pokemon starts still happen.

I seriously hope that nobody wins nats with sabledonk.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

People were discussing a possible mid-season rotation, because of how broken sabelye SF and some of the SF and LA trainers are with the BW rules

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

it's still as broken. and I think TPCi is going to see just how bad of an idea it was to have no rotation a few years ago, we really don't need this many sets.. if they had cut 8 instead of 4 sets for this season at the start, then we would of had a better card game. and I think that they'll cut more than 4 to try and make up for the huge mess that they made with our current format and upcoming rules. which would make it even worse if they did that next year. it's like too much way too late.

at least we'll have BR to see how terrible sabledonk really is.

what if at the door they let people know that Sableye is banned. and they have 2 hours to adjust. that would piss off ALOT of people. but only the people who wanted to have an easy win, and not actually earn it. I would face a (insert name)Chomp deck than a sabledonk ANY day. at least then I would have some chance of winning that wasn't entirely luck based.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

So basicly top-tier will be

Sabledonk
Trainer Lock
Gyara?
Some others with Sableye or Spiritomb starters

Me? I don't think I'm playing Spiritomb/Vileplume. You basicly need Spiritomb to win, and if you don't start it, you basicly autolose. At least with Sabledonk, you can still win if you go first. Even one spiritomb won't be 'nuff with Regice. I'll most likely play Sabledonk with a heavy collector line and maybe an Unown (Dark) tech. Maybe even some other deck with Sableye. But I need testing and time.

But on the other hand, I hate the major luck factor. I mean mirror is based on a flip, trainer lock is also luck based, and sableye techs are based on a flip as well. Considering at Regs I lost my two matches based on luck, I probably won't go. Not worth the expense. Next year ;)

Thank You. This is the most insightful thing I think I have seen posted on this site since before Zero got banned. Everyone is hyping Sabledonk a little much. I'm not denying that it will be good, but it isn't that big of a deal. Play more basics, Mesprits, Bats, be creative, yeh you could cram 4 useless Spirtomb in a deck, that will just worsen your everything else match up, or you can bank on the decks inconsistency or get a 4 Pokemon start. Come on guys, it isn't rocket surgery, just survive the first turn.

To all you Sableye players: U MAD BRO?
~~
I will be going to Worlds most likely, and only because it's in my backyard this year (San Diego). I honestly do not think that Sableye is a big of an issue as people think it is - it is entirely luck-based and nothing more. And if something becomes so tilted towards this...I'm not sure. There is no way to tell if P!P will do anything regarding Sableye once the B/W rules are released.

I'm personally not worried as I counter Sableye's luck-based strategy with my own super luck (I make Cyrus' Initiative worthless and Judge into great hands), but as for the metagame in general? Ah, if only there was a way to stop donks from ever happening.

and I'm half-asleep right now, so if this post looks like me spouting a bunch of nonsense, that's why

It doesn't really work that way. Sabledonk could always just do 40 a turn to your inconsistent deck that's teched out that can't recover.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

It's not for sure yet! Keep up hope there will be a fix from POP.

And if they don't, all those people who said POP doesn't care about the players will finally be vindicated.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

The only thing they can do now is ban Sableye last-minute :/ Not gonna happen, because it CAN be beaten unlike Mind Games Slowking and Beat Up Sneasel.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

Japan received a rotation. There is no reason we could not as well. Just stay calm, and wait until the set is officially released, before jumping to conclusions.

RE: MD-On Nationals Fromat

I think what they should do if the player goes first then they can not attack first.
