Okay, So new here so not sure if this is the best place to post this. But either way, I just recently started collecting again because I missed the excitement of getting really good cards. So I pulled out a Mewtwo EX today out of a Next Destinies packs. I was stoked, But the first thing i noticed is that it did not have a star, diamond, or circle next to the 54/99 on the bottom. Is this norma'? I know its not fake because i pulled it right out of a booster bought from target so. Thanks for any help!!

This thread more accurately belongs in Collector's Gathering, so I'll just move it over there.

It should most definitely have a little black star on the right of the 54/99...

It's this card, right?

It could also be a fake though. Do you know all the ways to tell if a card is fake? If so, do them and tell us the results.

Do stores like Target ever get fake cards?

Like the posters above me have said, that is not normal. It should have a black star to the right of the 54/99.

I haven't seen fake cards at any of the retailers in all my years of seeing products there (talking about K Mart, Wal Mart, Target, Toys R Us). That would be very very strange to actually see a store carry something like that, at least for me.

Could you take a picture of the space where the star should be and the card itself with a camera/phone and upload it to an image site? You can usually tell it's a fake from looking at the type of text that's on the card.

IT IS possible for stores like walmart, target, etc to sell fake pokemon cards. I will explain how. Pokemon cards that come straight from nintendo are all legit...They will have Pokemon USA or the pokemon company or pokemon international on the back of the booster pack OR blister cardboard part. I have heard some fake card makers using legit wrappers (stolen probably). Some other companies such as LLC or Excell marketing have cards obtained through the secondary market (not straight from nintendo). These repacks or bundles may contain fake cards or fake packs. The companies may not even know they have fake cards. So buyers beware....unless its a really good deal, or some much wanted old pack (i found an expedition 1 a lil over a year ago)...dont buy the OTHER blister packs unless you see pokemon usa or such on the back. tried to find a picture, of a repack blister...but could not on ebay..however they are at my walmarts---all walmarts and kmarts in my area often have them

I never said it wasn't possible. Clearly, this could be the case with this Mewtwo EX, which is a scary thought for me. I'm just saying I have never seen them or bought fake cards at those retailers ever. :F

yes i can make a short video when i go to walmart friday....dont really want them cuz its probably just commons and the multi pack ones i dont want to buy. ....i also bought collector squares recently....opened it already but it also a secondary market item sold in walmart/target/kmart/etc...its a square case ( that is actually perfect for poke zukan figures)...and a few tcg packs and some other stuff. i will even show the direct blisters so ppl can note the difference.

@Binx~ I think Serperior was talking about the Mewtwo EX but your video would still be beneficial :)

Okay so I actually had my friend who owns a comic book/TCG shop. I have a misprinted Mewtwo. The Star is there. It is just shiny silver. He said he has only seen black or white stars. So thank you for all the help sorry it took so long to get back.

All my EX cards have a silver star for the rarity. I think the color just depends on which portion of the foil shines through. Or maybe it's a sign of different print runs (black star vs white/silver)

Yeah. I just checked Ebay and the only Mewtwo EX card that has the black star is the Jumbo version. The normal ones have a silver star (which barely shows up in pictures).

here is the video..of what a secondary market booster pack looks like....and the kind of stuff the back of the package says (notice- cards purchased from the secondary market)
