Strategy

The idea is to manipulate the draw to go my way, all the time. To this end, I've employed as many draw effects and "peek" abilities as I can get hold of to either look at or dig through my deck and prizes. I've kept to singleton rules, and while it doesn't look very consistent, I can say with certainty that this deck does perform as expected.

My playgroup has banned Tool Unown (Q GE 49, G GE 57, E MT 65) Unown EX Unseen Forces A, Unown R LA 77, and Unown Z SW 72 due to ridiculous combinations with Base Set Alakazam/Reuniclus and Mismagius GL. Because Unown are practically useless in Singleton, and because Alakazam, Reuniclus, and Mismagius are MUCH better cards in comparison, the decision was made to ban the Unown themselves entirely.

Any thoughts/recommendations welcomed! This is a CASUAL, UNLIMITED format, so please keep that in mind!

idk too much about older sets. But wouldnt it be better to use a bunch of the same pokemon from different sets, so you can at least have a playset of something in terms of basics and middle steps with a couple of good 2nd steps.

An example being. Eevee, with a ton of its evolutions that are good from throughout the sets. Or perhaps a Blastoise deck, since there has been 4 different blastoise that all do the same thing. (Base set, BCR, the secret rare, and PLB.

Even if it is a singleton deck. Doesnt mean you can use multiple of the same pokemon. Or at least it doesnt with the ruling that i've played by. Because consistency is still important.

Good points all around, and things we've taken into consideration.

The concept of singleton is very different from person to person. Your suggestion is perfectly viable, and I've seen it around the forums and other places, but that makes the games a bit unbalanced. Gardevoir/Gallade is OP in that case, as are many other Pokemon. By restricting to a true singleton format, we've balanced deck power with game speed, and also placed an emphasis on deck construction as a necessary part of the format. Yes, it does make certain Pokemon, such as Eevee, nearly unplayable, but at the same time it allows other Pokemon who might not function as strongly in a traditional constructed format a chance to shine. Consistency can be guaranteed not just with multiple lines of Pokemon, but also through having a distinct strategy for the deck, with a wide variety of functionally-similar cards and effects.
