Please leave your comments about this depressing, but very truthful video on how people in large countries, such as the United States, take things for granted. I had to watch this during High School today. Enjoy...

I remember watching this when I went to High School, it really makes you think about what you have, and what others do not :[
 
I think the thing that most stood out to me was the theme song. But this video is inaccurate. I am almost sure that there are at least 6 million people on the earth.

Wow, that video is interesting. It really made me realize all I took for granted. The part about only one quarter of the world having a house really got to me.

Yes, definitely 6 million...

As for the video, I had to see it a year ago. Definitely puts a damper on your day.
 
The problem is that most of the people that are trying to help, are not really solving anything. By proving medicine, food and money, you're only offering temporary solutions. Those people will still starve or die from diseases later on (but only after they have had a lot of children, who will then also be poor, sick and hungry).
These people need information on how to grow food and prevent diseases.

Be wary of this if you want to help. There seem to be only few people and organizations who and are actually thinking up ways to find long term solutions. Also, don't just hand out money, most organizations will only use a small portion of that money to "do good". You will probably be able to do more by actually visiting the location that you wish to improve.

Be careful on that fact. Dependent on how you use the numbers only 39% in USA have a house. 119,117,000 houses divided by 307,006,550 people.
 
That wasn't very surprising on my part.

It may be because my mother has always reminded me of things like that, or the fact that I live in two different realities due to my parents, but, it really wasn't.

People in poor countries are poor for reasons.
They are in a "developing country"
The reason why we AREN'T poor is because we live in a so called "developed country."

But don't worry, we should crash in about 50 years or so.
Just like Rome...

There really isn't nothing you can do.

Countries like Africa are so poor because of Population issues, there own mistakes *cough*Blood Diamonds*cough, climate, and diseases :\

Countries like South America and Asia are so bad is because of terrain issues, limited space, climate.

Countries like Europe and the good old North America just got the luck of the draw imo.
 
having actually gone back and watched the video, i must say i'm extremely underwhelmed. don't know about the rest of you, but i'm sick of having all this awareness crap shoved down my throat from every which way. yes, i live in a developed country. yes, there are people out there starving and dying from disease. there are no doubts in my mind that some (if not most) of these statistics are even more skewed, just to make a point. there are plenty of things wrong in this world, and there always will be. a bunch of random kids becoming "bigger on helping" the earth is not going to change that. if you're going to make a difference in somebody's life, do it because you care about them and you want to help, not because you think you're a part of some larger, noble cause, because it won't amount to any significance in your lifetime.
 
I have infinitely more respect for someone who buys a homeless person a meal than someone who donates $1000 dollars to some faceless charity.

Same, which is why I do, but people who donate a thousand dollars are also helping (just not directly, and maybe not as influentially.)
