Mods + Clans = ???

WPM has basically summed it up quite nicely. I don't want to make us sound any better than any other member on the forum but the mods are older than the majority here and like to undertake in more intelligent discussion which is not offered in any of the clans.

I personally don't want to join any clans since I don't really see the point in them being any benefit to me and they're usually filled with n00by members who lack decent spelling and grammar.

And as Kronar kindly stated above: I have a life.

Not everyone lacks decent grammar and punctuation. Even in my PMDC, there are some members who speaks properly, not spam/bump the clan with whatever crap spammers spam with. I do not mean to fight, but I do feel mods should not generalise clam members as spammers. Think about the few who do not spam: How would you feel? Even in my school, those with a leader rank is treated differently than the other normal students. Okay, I am waaaaaaaay out of point. Anyway, what I mean to say is that we normal members should not be treated like what we see in sewage treatment plants. We may not hold any leadership rankings, but we do stand by the rules and speak proper english. So...okay, I am talking crap. Ignore me if you want.

I guess so. I think it wise to make *coughforcecough* mods not to join clans.
There's this super cool invention called "sarcasm", look it up in the dictionary and apply to to the last part of WPM's 1 posts here. Wow, that suddenly gave it another meaning, didn't it?

How to see that someone's being sarcastic on forums:
Exaggeration: ex: "YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE HUMAN"
Strangeness=saying something that makes no sense: ex: "TAR AND FEATHERED"
The sarcastic bit is usually followed by logical text, from where you should be able to distract that the above text was sarcasm.

Oh, look, that all applies to WPM's post :O!

In other words: Mods can join clans, they just don't. WPM was being SARCASTIC

Cause they look down on normal members. Right.

Well, there's a high chance of that there, even if April Fool's long gone.

I disagree with that statement. Most of us were regular members of the forum at one point. If I was not allowed to continue to participate in normal discussions on this forum as if I was a normal member, then I would have not accepted to become a mod in the first place. I knew that if I did become one, people would assume that I look down on others by the nature of the job that I am in. I avoid looking down on members, unless they are in violation of the rules in a particularly serious way. In the end, I decided to become one because I wanted to help contribute to making the forums a better place for people to hold discussions about Pokémon, the games, and the TCG.

With that in mind, though, we do spend a good amount of time not only enforcing the rules of the forum, but also trying to think of ways to constantly improve it. I have considered joining a club or clan at one time, and I am actually in the process of considering joining one right now. Between school, social events, and my activities online, my schedule is hard to work with at times. Joining a clan requires a certain level of commitment, and I want to be sure that I would be able to honor that commitment.

I do not like to give the impression that I look down on members; I want people to know that just like them, I share the same interests in the TCG and the video games.

Sorry, I did not mean you. I should not have generalised. I do not want to get banned, but I will not feel good if I do not let this off my chest, but sometimes I feel that certain staff members have strong sarcasm, which if used in large amounts can cause people to think that it is becoming an insult. And, of course, if someone of a higher rank and age than you insults members, be it a newbie or an experienced member, the person will like he is being bullied. Perhaps, I am speaking in a tone of someone suffereing from inferiority complex, which I believe, once being bullied continueously, will soon suffer from it too. What I am saying, is that mods should have a more positive tone, rather than overusing sarcasm. What I am trying to say that staff members should not act like he is more superior than other members, but should instead be like one of us-us representing the other members. I may seem to be dividing PokéBeach Forums into 2 groups, but I am actually trying to merge them together. WPM, before you click on the "Ban member" button, please think through what I have just said.

I'm gonna have to disagree with just about everything you just said.

I'd have to see an example of what you mean by "strong sarcasm." I hope you don't mean me. When it comes to laying down pokebeach law, I tend to not kid around and just get the point across. If someone's being an idiot, I'm going to let them know.

I don't believe any of the moderators intend on bullying new users. After all, we want people to stay and become active members, and treating new members like trash is no way to do it, not to mention we'd probably be de-modded faster than... well, I don't know, but it'd be pretty fast.

Perhaps newbies feel bullied because they do something wrong and get chastised for it when they really do mean well. I, however, believe this is rare, and those that spam spam spam are here to do just that. Most members who fall into the "I mean well" category usually take one reminder to shape up, and then they become good members and everyone is happy. :)

If you haven't noticed, whenever a moderator actually makes a contribution to a post he has interest in, he posts as a normal member would. The only time the mod suit has to come on is when someone screws up.

And on a final note, I don't really think we're moderators to represent other members. We're moderators to enforce the law when the situation arises.

Absol, I doubt you'll get banned just for bringing this up. After all it's generating more discussion than most threads that seem to be popping up lately.

I often see that people in a higher position of power (eg Mods) are generally considered to "look down at others" regardless of the reason for their status, and regardless of the way they behave. Also, I know that mods on other forums tend to be "less polite", so perhaps members of pokebeach assign these undeserved stereo types to our very own mods based on past experience.

Nor do I blame mods if they do dislike clans, let's not forget they're the ones who have to moniter the forums and clean up all the spam. Again, if I were in such a position, I'd probably feel the same way.

This is slightly moving away from the original topic, but hey, it has to be said.

I officially look down on doc, Pory and WPM (literally), but that's besides the point.

If you're a good member, there's probably no reason to fear mods. And there's also no reason for mod to look down on members, we're all human beings (I hope...), they can just lock or delete your posts and some can even ban you, nothing to fear :).
About mods not joining clans, a lot of members don't join clans, the older population of PB most of the time. And because mods are among the oldest here, they might think it's babyish. I have no intention of joining any clan other then the ALC either.
And forbidding moderators to do certain things would be just plain foolish anyways.

Oh, and people, it's not a crime to reply to mods, I know a few threads that died after a mod posted for some reason :S (they didn't get locked by that mod of course), but I'm seeing less of those lately.

Nope, I do not mean you. Now, I officially take back the topic about mods looking down on others. I should not have said this based on a few posts I find annoying. So, the topic is now closed.
*Locks*....Wait, I am not a mod :p

Absol you really could have said my name since I have a feeling you're most likely referring to me. I don't mind if you are. We're not overruling dictators who will punish your every move that isn't abiding by the rules. You ARE allowed to have your own opinions and say them without being scared. We aren't going to ban you or do anything at all for speaking up against us. Constructive criticism is welcomed as we all would like to know how to improve ourselves on the forum. People only get banned for severely breaking the rules after they've been warned numerous times.

I did not specify that it is you, but you can be very hurtful and sarcastis at times. I did not say that the staff were overruling dictators, but sometimes, some members might get hurt in the process of being modded. Sometimes, it is not just the mods, but the mini-modders. Sorry LV, but you always seem to hate newbies, like restricting them from PM-ing you, jumping into conclusions that other people who are better off than you are cheaters, etc.

Not just the mods, all of us members should be nicer towards newbies. What if you come up to a brand new forums, and after a single mistake you make, everyone comes up and posts two words; "NUFF SAID", and links a url to the words. Then, some mod comes along and says "Liek OMGz, a n00b sp@mming!!!", won't you feel unwelcomed, feel like you are a disgrace? I do not have any examples for any mod speaking like this, but sometimes we all should have a more positive attitude towards others. I have totally no idea how I made this thread way out of point, but this thread actually does make more sense when getting out of point.

That's because we DON'T talk like that. No mod will purposely insult another member on the forum and make them feel unwelcome.

Like I said to the mods, none of my sarcasm is meant to insult anyone. I just assumed people would see the sarcasm and laugh instead of feeling bad about it but i've obviously overestimated my expectations and will be conscious about using sarcasm in the future.

I know no one speaks like that, but some members do.

Wow, this sure went a little off topic, didnt it? I do think that your overreacting Absol.....MOD's are MOD's for a reason.....theyre not just there to be mean and lock everything. You can really be mad at them.....you have to trust their judgement on whatever they decide to lock or post about. Its like the police.....some people dont like them because theyre giving tickets....but some people like them because they keep everything okay even in light of the fact that theyll get a ticket every so often.

However, I do disagree with the whole language war that happens to be going on right now.....EVERYBODY has theyre own style of talking.....I am somewhat gramattical to the way I type......some others like MOD's in perticular and some members like Chakra, just have REALLY GOOD GRAMMAR.....in fact he jokes around with me because of it. This is like 2nd Grade.....you cant go and mess with Billy just because he picks his nose in class because everyone has theyre own habits.....

As for the NOOB issue.....I do agree they do a sufficent amount of spamming....but I think that as long as you give them a sufficent welcome and kinda show them the ropes before they do too much damage, like the "I donno how to make a tc....i want one" threads and the "how do the points/levels/effort work?" I think we could just PM them and give them a link to the Noob guide and help em out....everyone was a NOOB at once, and sometimes they cant just hold it in like me sometimes.....its just how it goes.

Well theres my imput on the matter....

That's what I am trying to say. So, I tried to stop everyone from discussing this topic. So, topic closed, okay?

The topic has gone way too off topic for everyone's tastes and so I will be locking it now.

Moderators are able to join whatever clan or club they want whenever they want. The reasons they choose not to are theirs alone.

*unlocks thread because of potential for discussion*

No disrespect, PMJ. :p

Please continue this topic.

Oh I see...
So that's why Doc's been thinking to join the PMDC or not...
So it's settled Mods CAN join Clans...

Well I have been reporting people who misspells and uses shortcuts but i think we should warn them before we report them and tell them to read the new rules...
And Nobbs need a chance to know there wrong doings too,we shouldn't be disrespectful for the first mistake they do but we could just help them out and warn them not to do it again too....
I just realized this when I read the whole thread...

I wish,I helped in this discussion :p
Thanks a lot for reading...
