Has anyone else done or tried the Monotype Challenge? If not, here are the rules:

1. You must only choose one of the seventeen types of pokemon.

2. Dual-types are allowed.

3. You may not evolve pokemon to get a specific type that the previous did not have (for example, you can't evolve a Piplup for a Steel-type run since Piplup is primarily Water)

4. Only exceptions to the type you are using are HM Slaves.

People Doing this Challenge:
JacobeTheElf
thefleeee
pikachu6319
safariblade
pokemon99

5. You may use your starter until you get a pokemon of the type you choose; release it or put it in a box, but do NOT use it unless its type is the type you are using.

I'm doing this on my HeartGold (which is why I posted this on Generation IV) and I chose the Water type.

Pokemon:

Totodile, level 15
Wooper, level 8
Poliwag, level 11

Current location: in the cave that takes you to Azalea Town. 1 badge.

Well it can be any game, it doesn't have to be HeartGold! I just thought a 4th generation game would be easier to get a team because there's more pokemon and more choices, although I'm not using any cheats and catching Water-types that you can get in the game itself. Although I'm having a really tough time with the rival's level 18 Bayleef.....so I'm grinding my pokemon to level 18 or possibly higher. It's hard when all you can really train with are Zubats and Slowpoke at levels less than 10.

That might work, or pre-order Black or White! I got White :p if I hadn't lost my Gold, I wouldve still had a game from every generation :( but I lost it while it was in my GBA, so I don't have a GBA either :/ (so I can't even play my Blue)

i pre ordered black because reshiram is awesome. im thinking of doing a challenge on it first play through...i havnt looked at the pokedex though...

You can find the pokedex.....I don't want to say specific sites because I don't want to get in trouble for advertising....

Wow, all of these "Challenges".
They're pretty cool though. Fire would be hard, because you are so limited.

I'm doing White because at first, I thought the white legendary went with White and the black legendary went with Black, but then my friend was like "I call pokemon Black!" (we always get the opposite game) and she said it was because the Black legendary was awesome, and then I found out the white legendary went with Black and the black legendary went with White.....oh well though!

Anyway, back to the topic!

I grinded a bit due to losing badly to my rival's Bayleef, being all Water-type.....so now I have:
Croconaw, level 20 (got Ice Fang for Bayleef! Yay!)
Wooper, level 16
Poliwag, level 18

Safariblade: I'm doing 5 challenges in 5 games.....hopefully it'll keep me busy! Going through the adventures so many times can get a bit boring after a while, so I'm always up for a challenge!

You can find the pokedex.....I don't want to say specific sites because I don't want to get in trouble for advertising....
Linking people to a popular site resource (Serebii, Psypoke, Bulbapedia, Smogon, Marriland) does not count as advertising.

no i dont want to look at the pokedex...i want to be surprised. im picking snivy so i would be doing a grass team.

thanks, DNA! I'll keep that in mind :)

Catutie: I wanted to see them right away :p I was excited! I now have my team all planned out and everything.

Anyway, UPDATE!!

After grinding a bit, I beat Bugsy and my rival Gin (Japanese for "silver", to contrast with gold)
Croconaw, level 21
Wooper, level 19
Poliwag, level 18

CURRENT LOCATION: Goldenrod City, 2 badges

Yay! :D everyone who's doing it with me, have fun with it! I think if you think about dual-types and strategize with moves, it won't matter as much that they're all the same type. You can make any team good if you strategize and plan ahead!

Funny, I was just thinking about this one. I might just do it after I decide a type. My original idea was water in the third gen. Mudkip is a good one that goes into a dual Water/Ground and the obvious Kyogre pops up towards the end of the game.

First Gen fire isn't a bad type either though Brock will be a pain to beat.

Anyway, once I decide I'll keep everyone posted.

Safariblade's Water MonoType Challenge
I hope to have a fun time doing this run.
Hoenn leaves me great opportunities with the Water type Pokemon.
Wish me luck and keep up with my updates!
