DPPt/HGSS Monotype Challenge

There are 6 other different types of Grass pokemon you can get in Unova, not counting the version-exclusive pokemon. Also, there's a Grass-type pokemon that you could only get if you chose the Fire starter (I believe), so if you don't like the other 6, you could trade too. I didn't read any rules about this challenge that stated you couldn't trade, so I would assume you can.

^so if i dont like 2 of the grass types...im screwed lol maybe ill do ground. i want to have kibago though (oh sorry axew...LAME)...i cant do dragon though...

I wish Dragon-types were easier to get, but sadly they aren't. :\ so I'll personally never try a Dragon-type run, especially not on a Generation I or II.

^could you imagine...salamance, flygon, dragonite, garchomp....wait...that is like all the non legendary dragon types...

You forgot Kingdra and Altaria. Shame on you.

OOOOOOOOOOOPS....wait...kingdra is dragon?....i always thought he was just water. i guess that would be your team...i would never use altaria...or kingdra...or garchomp...DANG I WOULD ONLY USE 3 POKE

Naw, Kingdra is Water/Dragon. Why else is he not weak to Thunderbolt and a common choice for many battlers? Having only one weakness that's relatively uncommon, plus access to some very useful moves (Surf, Dragon Dance...), means Kingdra has a lot going for it.

Okay, started my Monotype (chose the water type) challenge this evening on my Sapphire and here is where I stand:

Pokemon 1: Mudkip now a Marshtomp level 16
Pokemon 2: Lotad now a Lombre level 16
Pokemon 3: Wingull level 16
Pokemon 4:Zigagoon, only present for the Cut HM and Pickup ability, will be replaced as soon as I can.
Pokemon 5:n/a
Pokemon 6:n/a

I have one badge from Roxanne and am training in Granite Cave in preparation for my fight against Brawley.

My plan right now for Pokemon 4-6 will be Chinchou, Spheal or Corphish and Kyogre. The other option I'm considering is replacing Wingull with either the Spheal or Corphish that would have not originally been selected.

^i love lanturn lol. wait...we can do legendaries...so i can use like every legendary ever made for a dragon team lol. i would do spheal because if you get hit by grass...it may be a problem. sure you have wingull but....some back up would be nice.

I'll do a monotype of water on my Sapphire ROM starting in a bit

Pokemon99's Water MonoType Challenge
I'll be doing this on my Sapphire, and will be adding this to the list of like 3 challenges I am doing in different games.
Hoenn leaves me great opportunities with the Water type Pokemon.
Wish me luck and keep up with my updates!

Pokemon 6:n/a

I have three badges and in Lavaridge ready to fight Flannery for my fourth badge. What I really need is a Good Rod so I can start getting my other two team mates. I'll update when I can, but with the dowloadable release of Dead Space Severed tomorrow combined with Black and White this Sunday my monotype challenge may very well be on a small hold.

Same with me. The fact that I'm doing 3 other challenges (Monocolor, Baby/Unevolved, new challenge in a Third Generation thread on this site) in 3 other games, plus I'm having White shipped to me on Sunday when it's released in the US, Monotype will be on hold for me for a bit also.

ilovemypikachu's Water-type Monotype Challenge UPDATE!!

After being in Goldenrod City, I trained my pokemon to level 20 and beat Whitney easily, got the Plain Badge. I battled more trainers, KOed the Sudowoodo, got to Ecruteak, defeated Morty after grinding to level 25 and relying on Croconaw's Bite. Then, I went to Olivine and the lighthouse, went to Route 41 and fished and caught a Chinchou, went to Cianwood and got the SecretPotion. Then went back to the lighthouse in Olivine, gave Amphy the SecretPotion, went to the newly-opened Safari Zone (and on the way caught a Seel) and now I'm grinding to level 27 or maybe higher to battle Chuck.

Current Team:

SEEL lv. 21
Ability: Hydration
Rest
Icy Wind
Encore
Surf (so that he at least had one good attack, was Ice Shard)

CHINCHOU lv. 26
Ability: Volt Absorb
Take Down
Water Gun
Confuse Ray
Spark

CROCONAW lv. 27
Ability: Torrent
Ice Fang
Bite
Water Gun
Cut (need an HM slave!)

POLIWHIRL lv. 27
Ability: Damp
Body Slam
Rain Dance
Hypnosis
Bubblebeam

QUAGSIRE lv. 27
Ability: Damp (too late to change now....)
Surf
Mud Bomb
Slam
Mud Shot

And with ANOTHER update for today:

I went to Pokeathlon and changed the day to Wednesday to get a Water Stone and evolved my Poliwhirl. After getting them all to level 27, I battled Chuck. He took out Seel quite easily (as expected) and I sent out Poliwrath. Poliwrath put up a good fight with his Poliwrath, but eventually, being lower-leveled, his Poliwrath took me down. Then I sent out Croconaw, and he defeated Chuck easily with Poliwrath constantly using Focus Punch while I kept hitting him. Then, I went straight to Jasmine, and Quagsire took her whole team down. Now, I am on my way to Mahogany Town to get Whirlpool so I can go to Whirl Islands to get a Horsea.

Current Team:

Poliwrath, level 27
Seel, level 27
Lanturn, level 27
Croconaw, level 28
Quagsire, level 28

Going for a poison team on Fire red in order to honour the maddest pokemon ever.
Nidoking!
Also got some cool opportunities to make a great poison team in this generation
