Most overhyped card of the Pokemon TCG

I have recently been thinking about how many things have been overyhyped in the last year or so in the Pokemon TCG. If there had been that many in that short of time frame, I wondered how many there could have been since Base Set was released in 1999.

So, I come to you guys today with a new topic: What card was the most overyhyped one in the entire history of the Pokemon TCG? Why do you think so?

Discuss.

Charizard (BS), first of all he was Charizard. Also, his Fire Spin attack dealt 100 damage which OHKO most Pokemon in that format and with its Poke-Body it wasn't so slow.

Chomp X had loads of hype before It came Out.
So will CharizardG X and Cynthias chompX in the future.
Team magma's pokemon were hot in their day, and gardy got popular last year.

We don't have those Lv.X scans yet....

Crobat Neo Destiny is way overhyped.

I know, but based on history, and popularity of them, there will be hype. also, have you noticed when a charizard becomes a "powerhouse" (holo in base, ex in ex, and Lv.x In DP) they always have the highest firepower of any other card? (100 in base, 200 in Ex, ???in DP). So, I think there will be hype.

Well, yes, a general Pokemon TCG fan would probably overhype Charizard BS. However, most veteran players probably threw that card aside a long time ago.

Wow, that Crobat is pretty.....eh.

Without a slightest doubt in the ol' days Charizard BS was THE card. Not just because of its hp, because it did 100 damage. Somehow, Blaine's Arcanine never did the same, even with higher damage. Of course, Charizard is incredibly popular.
So now what is that card? Hmm...I'm not really that sure. I geuss Lv.X's are overhyped in general if you ask me. People always want LV.X's in their packs, or some other rare card.
As a player, I'm not too sure, even as a Collector I'm not sure either. I geuss there's been too many sets come out for me to keep up.

Claydol EX. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Most Legendary pokemon are overhyped. See Darkrai Lv.X, Dialga G Lv.X, etc.

I wish I had known about the Claydol hype back then since I had 2. -_-

I don't think legendary Pokemon are overhyped, I think most of them have very powerfu effects that just never quite fit in the metagame right. I mean, Darkrai Lvl X IS good, but with Machamp, Gallade and Dialga G Lvl X, he just never got his chance.

Garchomp Lvl X. I'm still to this day shocked that he's not a good card.
=( And if you ask me, Giratina X isn't nearly as powerful as people are saying it is, but I've never actually played it so I'll shut up. =P

Yeah, I had heard Claydol ex was pretty hyped around Nats of 2007. Still don't get wau to this day....it sucked. Like Pokemaniac, I wish I'd known. I had one at the time.

^Claydol ex was hyped by Jimmy Ballard and some friends. They hyped the card to no end, and then the sold all of their copies, giving them a load of money, which they used to pay for their trip to worlds. That is why you need to think for yourself.

My friend told me this story that some kid helped out at league putting up the chairs so he got some packs and pulled Charzard BS out of it. Kids swarmed him saying stuff like "I'll trade you my entire collection for it!" An ENTIRE COLLECTION! that I would say is THE most overhyped card EVUR.

I think this thread is more about cards that were meant to perform well in the TCG but then rapidly fell in popularity once released. If Charizard was valued for its playability, it wouldn't be worth much at all.

That guy who hyped Claydol EX sounds pretty smart. I bet the people who got tricked by that would be reluctant to buy Claydols for $15 one format later!

Lately, Raichu Lv.X had been pretty overhyped. It never did quite deliver. In fact, Gigas took its place as the best X from SF and relegated Raichu to its old spot of "The X you dont want".
Earlier, I can recall Togekiss GE (OMG DIS IS DA BEST CARD EVAR wasn't such a rare quote around it), Blastoise SW and Tyranitar Ex (DF). All cards that got quite some hype yet never quite made it.

I would say that Dusknoir X>Gigas.

If you remember when GE came out, Darkrai Lv. X ENG started selling for $100. :O I've only played against one in a tournament.

I did okay with Raichu, it's just too hard to play it with all these brainless decks (read: Machamp) running around. With Bronzong getting the energies and TS-2, it was a fun deck.

Hype is a good thing for me, I just hope I pull Charizard G Lv.X when it comes in Prerealease, then all the nubs can bother me for it and I'll trade the good stuff. If they pull one and go "OMGWTHBBQROFLSTICK, CHARIZARD!!!!111!!!one11!!", I'll just laugh at them and walk away when they get donked by Machamp.

I know lol just wait until the Pulse of the Frontier Prerelease in America someone will pull a Charizard G Lv.X and all the kids below 12 will freak and offer like literally ALL their pokemon cards for it!

It's terrible. NO strategy. Doomed. I think Chomp and charizard are both terrible. But, Blaziken X looks AWESOME! I can't wait for the rest to come out. Vire X is also pretty good.
