Music writing/editing sofware

I was wondering if anyone here knows of free music writing/editing software that is safe to download?

I kind of figure that there are so many free paint things (some of them like gimp are quite good) so there has got to be at least a few music programs out there.
 
If you mean recording programs and such, I strongly suggest "Audacity". Just search it with Google.

But, if you don't need recording programs, then I don't know any. Sorry.

I need something more like this but free.
 
Well there is garageband on Ilife for mac, and also there is fruity loops(FLstudio) but I don't know If it's free..
 
Well, if you can buy a Mac. (They are really cheap nowadays, $600 for a Mac Mini!) They have GarageBand preloaded and IMO, the best music making software. Great interface and it just works! :D
 
Yeah... you're not going to find any composition software for free. Unless it's pirated...
