RBY My Pokemon Red Won't Save Anymore!

Yeah this happened to my Red, Silver, and Gold versions. I was so bummed out. All the memories gone. Yeah but you can get the battery replaced.

Yes there is. There were batteries in the earlier games. Not sure about the later ones though.

just replace it hey. i did it for my crystal and silver, wasn't that hard. worth it, too. :)

You'll need a CR2025 or CR2032 battery (2032 lasts longer), needlenose pliers (if small enough), corkscrew, and electrical tape.

Instructions:

- Check the back side of the game. The screw is a 6-point star.
- Stick the corkscrew or pliers into one of the grooves and on the screw.
- Press down, and move it counterclockwise.
- You slide the top half away from the bottom half.
- You have to pry the metal rod/arm off the battery. Be careful, but it is hard. The corkscrew is able to detach this part easily (easier than the pliers). There are two arms, one on top, one on bottom. The top must come off first before the bottom can be reached.
- Then after, you get electrical tape, and wrap it around the circumference of the new battery.
- Place the new battery in the arms as it was before.
- Tape the arms down to the battery.
- Replace cover.

There's a battery in RBY?

Yup. It doesn't run out as quickly as the batteries for GSC do, though, because of the lack of an internal clock. Or at least that's my understanding.

Sorry about your game, Barry. I will never forget the day my Gold ran out. I cried for hours. I should be far more embarrassed about that than I am (which is not at all).

I'm lucky I guess, my gold cart still works after all these years. I got a silver cart from a friend last year and it does not save. I have a red and blue cart that save as well.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-the-battery-in-a-pokemon-goldsilve/ that should work for red/blue too I assume

This sort of thing can happen.Batteries to replace are very cheap from what I remember.

I'm so sorry! Why couldn't it be a ruby instead, or at least a fire red, why did it have to be the best game ever made?

So true, original red will always be the best for me :)

(nice sig btw, I love that new bug!)

I will always have a "problem" with a "certain" GameStop.

They sold me a Pokemon Gold cartridge, and guess what?

The battery had already ran out.

FAIL.

I am sure all of you have old computers lying around. The battery needed is a CR3025 or CR2025? I do believe those are the same as CMOS batteries on a standard motherboard. Go open up your old computer and tear one of those puppies out. They only are drained for as long as the computer has not been plugged in.

Now sadly I have to try remember where my needle-nose pliers are.

I think you will also need to unsolder it from the board. Also soldering the new one in will make it more secure than electrical tape. If its taped in a little janky, and the battery gets dislodged from a terminal, oops no game save.
