Writing Mysteries of the Forgotten Island (Version Zero) (Complete)

I actually considered naming my character Aisling! And our characters are from the same area, and both have red hair. Talk about coincidences!
Oh, that's really neat! I like to give characters Irish/Celtic names, and I'm quite fond of Aisling. As for the hair and location, that was part of this OC's original back story, way way back in 2010! That's really neat!

Because @Athena told me to:

Name: Lenneh (Lenny).
Class: Kindler
Home: Lavaridge Town, Hoenn
Pokémon: Female Ninetales, Male Camerupt, Female Darmanitan
Pokémon's Strength: Ninetales SpD, Camerupt Def, Darmanitan Atk
Pokémon's Weakness: Ninetables Atk, Camerupt Spd, Darmanitan SpD
Pokémon's Signature Move: Ninetales- Sunny Day, which allows her to strengthen fire moves for a long time with her Heat Rock, Camerupt- Eruption, Darmanitan- Flare Blitz.
Trainer's Appearance: Short man (5 foot 4), completely bald yet with sideburns, appears to be of middle age. Wears loose clothing and sandals and will only bundle up if the weather's too cold.
Trainer's History/Backstory: Born and bred in Lavaridge town and works as a Kindler as do many people there, and even trained in Flannery's gym for a short while becoming more interested in Pokemon battling. Thrives on adversity from having to fight so many water types around Hoenn and is somewhat stubborn as a result.
Trainer's Favourite Food: Raw chilli peppers.
Trainer's Worst Fear: Mt. Chimney erupting.
Battle Style: Highly offensive, and centered around his two pokemon Camerupt and Darmantian to deal massive amounts of damage while Ninetales supports with weather and status.

Name: Kiria
Class: Backpacker
Home: Originally from Olivine City, Johto; current residence: Malie City, Ula'Ula island, Alola
Pokémon: Slowpoke♂ (name: Barry), Arbok♀ (name: Eleonora), Mimikyu♀ (name: Maiko)
Pokémon's Strength: Slowpoke's best stat is, ironically, speed; he's not super fast, but fast enough in battle that it often confuses his opponents. Arbok is bulky, with high Def/Sp.Def, and Mimikyu is pure offense with high Sp.Atk.
Pokémon's Weakness: Slowpoke's defenses are rather low, Arbok is slow, and Mimikyu has very low HP.
Pokémon's Signature Move:
Slowpoke: Confusion. Pokémon are already slightly off-guard when fighting Barry thanks to his speed, and this move keeps them on their toes.
Arbok: Toxic + Venoshock. Eleonara likes playing with her food before finishing it off, and she keeps this strategy in battle, too.
Mimikyu: Terror Claw (Shadow Claw + Astonish combo). Maiko delights in sneaking up on its enemies and terrifying them as it hurts them; she has a bit of a mean streak.
Trainer's Appearance: Kiria is short and curvy with medium-length dark green hair that's usually pulled back in some fashion, but never really styled. Normally, she slouches and looks rather bored, unless she's on the road to someplace new and her face lights up with excitement. She delights in wearing bright colours and carries her backpack wherever she goes, since she's never sure when she'll move on again. Her bag is covered in colourful patches from various regions around the world. The dourest part of her attire is her footwear: a pair of dirty, scuffed combat boots that look at least a century old.
Trainer's History/Backstory: Wanting an adventure but stuck at home on a farm near Olivine City, Kiria was an easy target of a recruitment drive for Team Rocket. She received her first Pokémon, Eleanora the Ekans, and traveled around doing missions before being stationed at Azalea Town near the Slowpoke Well. However, Kiria became disillusioned with Team Rocket after she began to grow fond of one of the kidnapped Slowpoke, and they escaped together. Fearing retribution, Kiria and her two Pokémon left Johto entirely and began traveling around. After Team Rocket was disbanded, she felt safe enough to return to Olivine, but she could not adjust back to a quiet life at home and it wasn't long before she was back on the road. Her adventures eventually led her to Malie City where she works part-time at the Library. She recently befriended her newest Pokémon near there, a Mimikyu that had started following her around when she moved into down.
Trainer's Favourite Food: Teriyaki Basculin
Trainer's Worst Fear: Being stuck somewhere and unable to leave
Battle Style: Although each Pokémon kind of have their own style, overall they lean towards offense.

Name: Taikyu
Class: Elder
Home: Po Town, Ula'ula Island, Alola (Later Ecruteak City, Johto)
Pokémon: Drampa (Male, Nicknamed Seinaru) gives others a feeling of calm and welcomeness with his benevolent personality. Often he hands out berries to strangers in an attempt to befriend them. In battle, he uses his brain over brawn.
Lycanroc-Midnight (Male, Nicknamed Rikan) is somewhat aloof. Occasionally, he has a rebelious streak and blatently disobeys Taikyu's orders. Other times, he disobeys Taikyu's orders when he feels like acting on his own will benefit the group more.
Necrozma (Nicknamed Hansha) is the most enigmatic of the bunch. Its personality is non-existent, but glimmers of it show when it decides to imitate Taikyu's body language. Despite being robotic, it looks up to Taikyu due to him caring for it since it was a Cosmog.
Pokémon's Strength: Seinaru's is Special Attack, Rikan's is Attack, and Hansha's is Sp. Def.
Pokémon's Weakness: Seinaru's is Attack, Rikan's is Sp. Def., and Hansha's is Speed
Pokémon's Signature Move: Seinaru's is Aether Comet (Draco Meteor + Blizzard), a highly damaging rock that has the chance to freeze its target,
Rikan's is Meteor Shower (Fire Fang + Stealth Rock), which is flaming, crushed stealth rocks that do damage upon switching in based on the target's types evectiveness to both rock and fire.
and Hansha's is Prismatic Laser
Trainer's Appearance: Taikyu is an old, gaunt man, around 70 years old and surprisingly tall at 6'9". He has darker, tanned skin and, sharp eyes with yellow pupils. His white beard is braided, which gives him a mystical appearance. He only wears a red loin cloth which covers his waist. gave i
Trainer's History/Backstory: Taikyu was born to a mother and father who were criminals and in poverty. All across Alola, they plundered, taking rare Pokemon. One day, when Taikyu way 10, they broke into the laboratory of a famous scientist, and pilfered the rare Pokemon he was studying, Cosmog. However, they weren't careful, and managed to be arrested in the days following the heist. In order to hide the Cosmog for when they escaped, they gave it to Taikyu as a starter and told him to run as far as he could, hoping that they could meet him again one day and reclaim what they had lost.
Running brought Taikyu to Malie City, where he discovered the ferry system for the first time. Throughout the next 40 years, he traveled throughout the world as a nomad, hopping from job to job, trying to find one he wanted to devote his life to. Around this time, he aquired Rikan as a Rockruff. Eventually, he arrived in Johto's Ecruteak City, where he trained as a sage as one of his many jobs. At the end of his training, he was presented with Seinaru in the bottom of the Tin Tower. Realising he wanted to devote his life to his newfound faith, stayed in Ecruteak for 20 more years, with the occasional pilgrimage to Mt. Silver for training. At the end of 10 years, his Cosmog, now a Cosmoem, suddenly evolved into a Necrozma as a result of his faith. Therefore, it was nicknamed Hansha, which means "reflection". Taikyu wants to enter this tournament as a test of endurance, to see if he can keep up with young trainers, and to see if he is what his parents were not: A great battler.
Personality-wise, Taikyu can come off as somewhat curmugdeonny and arrogant to those that he meets at first because of his sardonic sense of humor, fueled by a dryness only old age can produce. Spending more time with him, though reveals his natural charisma and humbleness. He often tells new trainers his favorite anectdotes from when he was a monk to bestow them with wisdom and imress them.
Trainer's Favourite Food: Sweet Malasada
Trainer's Worst Fear: Being abandoned
Battle Style: Speed

Glad to have y'all aboard. Be like Athena and convince randos you know to sign up.

Name: Eldan
Class: Team Flare Grunt (M)
Home: Lumiose City
Pokémon:
milotic-f.gif
gardevoir.gif
ninetales.gif

Pokémon's Strength: Sp. Def/Speed/Sp. Atk, respectively
Pokémon's Weakness: Speed/Defense/HP, respectively
Pokémon's Signature Move:
Milotic: Mirror Coat. With rather good defenses and rather not Speed, Milotic favors moves like this. Dealing damage while not actually dealing damage is her favorite. <3
Gardevoir: Psyshock. Moonblast is too boring. >:L
Ninetales: Overheat. Wheeeeee, damage. \o/
Trainer's Appearance: A good old-fashioned Team Flare Grunt, down to the stylish red sunglasses. Pristine red suit, carefully combed red-dyed hair, etc. This guy takes his job seriously.
Trainer's History/Backstory: Eldan had a bit of a tough life in the years preceding his recruitment. His parents would never let him have all the Lumiose Galettes he wanted, and the teachers at the best school in Kalos were all mean to him. Fortunately, that all changed soon after. He met a man who would not reveal his name, but with a stark black suit and fiery red hair, he certainly looked stylish. Eldan followed the man at once.

Team Flare turned out to be all it was cracked up to be! Power and prestige anywhere you looked, and you didn't have to share it with anybody! Well, except the leader, but he didn't count. At last, Eldan was free! He devoted his life to Team Flare, and in return, he learned what in life was really most important. Two things, really. Money, and style.
Trainer's Favourite Food: Lumiose Galette.
Trainer's Worst Fear: Being seen as unstylish by those he cares about. Or really anyone, for that matter. :x
Battle Style: Not quite sure what you mean by status-changing, there. Like, battle control, with Trick Room, weather, hazards, etc? I'll go with that, then. If it's just like status as in "status conditions", offensive sounds good.

Name: Thresher (Male)
Class: Fisherman

Prickles - Ferrothorn (Male)
Pokémon's Strength:

Trainer's Appearance: 6’,Doesn’t wear a shirt, has Dark Brown hair, Wears Tight pants the same colors as a Huntail, Dark-Skinned (Similar to Hau), and Black sandals. He also has gleaming blue eyes.
Trainer's History/Backstory: Thresher was born in the small town of Pacifidlog, where his family have fished for ages. His father gave him a Huntail, Which would aid him while fishing. One day, a strange-colored Corsola floated to the surface, poisoned, with the horn on its head eaten off. Thresher saw this, and rushed it to the Pokemon Center. As thanks, the Corsola went into a Dive Ball he had. Later, his father was stricken with a mysterious illness, which could only be cured by the famed Liechi berry. Every day Thresher looked for the elusive Mirage Island, which held the Liechi Berry, but to no avail. A week later, his father passed away. He still looked out for the Island, hoping one day he might find it to help out other people with the same illness. He then traded for a Ferrothorn, thinking it may help with fishing, which it did. The people of Pacifidlog never used a grass-type to help fish, and they were surprised to see that it was the most help they ever had.
Trainer's Favorite Food: Crab.
Trainer's Worst Fear: Volcanos.
Battle Style: Offensive.

That's 16. Just waiting on Skyleaf and then I'll post more information about how things are gonna go.

If you want to make any last-minute changes, now is the time.

Skyleaf is having technical difficulties so y'all got some more time.

Name: Windra

Class: Backpacker

Home: Originally from Village Bridge, Unova. Now roams.

Pokémon:
Tyeaf “tea-yeaf” (rhymes with leaf) (Paras ♀) (Dive Ball)
Curious and brave, but doesn’t know what to do when people argue. Wants to be strong, but usually doesn’t battle and is seen riding on Windra’s shoulder. Likes scratching things to show where she’s been.

Archeidon “arr-kai-dun” (Volcarona ♂) (PokéBall)
The strongest battler on Windra’s team. Takes pride in his beautiful appearance, but doesn’t flaunt it. Doesn’t like getting dirty, but is fine with it during battles. Calm and serene.

Chomper “chom-purr” (Pikachu ♂) (Great Ball)
Regularly sneaks out of his PokéBall to cause mischief. Enjoys starting arguments for no reason. Thinks he’s a smooth criminal. Very confident. Flirtatious with female Pokémon, and perhaps a little vain.

Pokémon's Strength:
Tyeaf - Attack stat.
Archeidon - Special Attack stat.
Chomper - Speed stat.

Pokémon's Weakness:
Tyeaf - Special Attack (but since this is pretty much unused, Sp. Def if needed.)
Archeidon - Speed Stat.
Chomper - Defense stat.

Pokémon's Signature Move:
Tyeaf - X-Scissor. The user slashes at the foe by crossing its scythes or claws as if they were a pair of scissors.
Archeidon - Silver Wind. The target is attacked with powdery scales blown by the wind. This may also raise all the user's stats.
Chomper - Thunder Sword. User shoots lightning into the sky, which comes down and strikes its metal tail. Its tail is then swung as a weapon. (Combination of Thunder and Iron Tail.)

Trainer's Appearance:
Black hair with sideswept bangs. Hair comes to shoulders. Female, but very flat-chested. Green eyes and pale skin, freckles across her nose. Average height, but a little on the tall side. Appears to be around 14, but is actually 17.
Wears a white t-shirt with a multi-colored silhouette of Ho-Oh. Shorts that come to her knees in a khaki color. Has a jacket the same khaki color, but it’s usually tied around her waist. (When she does wear it, she rolls up the cuffs quite a bit because the sleeves are too long.) Has a very small backpack, around big-purse size, but it’s still worn on her back. Her backpack is yellow-tan and has a Spinarak button.

Trainer's History/Backstory:
Growing up with kind parents on Village Bridge, Windra had a rural childhood. She enjoyed playing by the river and listening to the street musicians. As she grew older, she took to wandering further and further away from the bridge. Her favorite pastime was running as fast as she could up and down the hills of Route 12.
She started her Pokémon journey a bit later than most, at age 13. When a swarm of Paras came through Route 11, she befriended one, and the travelling swarm inspired her to travel herself. When she approached her parents, they gave her the family Larvesta to accompany her, and with his help, she caught her befriended Paras in a Dive Ball. (She didn’t really know the PokéBall was supposed to be used underwater, she just liked the color.) While travelling Unova, a Pikachu began to follow them, pestering them at every opportunity. Despite having refrained from catching Pokémon her entire journey, Windra battled the Pikachu and captured him.
She now continues roaming, and dreams of seeing every inch of the world.

Trainer’s Personality (I added this in)
Bold, but not quick-tempered at all. She’s always ready to fight, but doesn’t like stirring up anger. She’ll forgive most people, but if someone is needlessly cruel (to anyone) she’ll hold a grudge. Generally optimistic and tends to rush into things, purposefully avoiding planning ahead. Additionally, purposefully did not bring a tent nor a sleeping bag on her journey because she’s odd. Hates being tied down to one place. Usually goes with emotion over logic.

Trainer's Favourite Food:
Cheesy noodles with broccoli mixed in.

Trainer's Worst Fear:
Absence of change. Usually triggered by silence combined with an absence of motion. (Think of time standing still.)

Battle Style:
Offensive

I see that @GrandPanacea 's character has a fear of bugs. I'm sure they'll enjoy hanging out with Windy and her team. XD
Sorry it took so long! It looks like my account issues are fixed now, though. Fingers crossed they stay that way!

@PMJ tell me if anything needs clarification or simplification!

That's good.

Okay. No more edits will be permitted from this point. I'll update later with more stuff. Excited to get this going.

Just like in anime-style league battles, the terrain for each match will be randomly selected. There are six terrains in total. All of them are wide and flat, but the obstacles present vary depending on the field.

Ground field: Large boulders and a few plateaus of stone. The ground is concrete and covered in a fine layer of gravel.

Fire field: Small geysers, which occasionally erupt, dot the field. The ground is hot - not hot enough so that it can't be stood on, but enough to be uncomfortable if stood on for too long. In the center is a circular temperature-controlled platform to provide a reprieve, but it's only big enough for one.

Water field: The entire battlefield is replaced by a pool of water. Several wide platforms are present in order to give non-Water-types a fighting chance. Cameras and speakers are wired underwater so the Trainers can see and instruct their Pokemon in case they end up underwater.

Grass field: Most of the field is covered in grass about two inches high. In the center of the field is a large tree that is easy to hide behind, but the foliage makes climbing into it difficult. The ground is soft dirt that can be dug into easily.

Ice field: The ground is covered in a layer of slick ice. Boulders covered in snow are present. A light snow falls on the battlefield.

Normal field: A large, flat field, with no obstacles to hide behind or use. The floor is covered in linoleum, making it easy to walk on and resilient.

In order to prevent giving any player an unfair advantage, the first Pokemon to be sent out will be determined by the combatants pre-battle.

That should be all the info that you need. You're welcome to discuss things between chapters, talk among yourselves, etc. Have some fun. I know Jesi is.

The first chapter will be done when it's done. I don't know how long it's going to take. You'll learn the pairings in the first chapter.

Is everyone following this thread? I figured that since everyone's Pokémon can be seen, it would make the story a bit more interactive if you all chose who you want to lead with in your matches. They would be submitted privately, of course.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, guys, but you don't you think it would be better for you to wait until you learn who your opponent is before submitting? :)

Some fun facts about the fighters:

- The most common country of origin is Alola and Sinnoh, with four fighters each. The country with the least amount of representatives is Kanto, with zero.
- Despite being the most common country, no one from Alola is using an Alolan Pokemon, but the one player who is is from Sinnoh.
- The most common type among all Pokemon is, unsurprisingly, Water, with 8 Pokemon (17%). Honorable mentions: Fire and Fairy with 7 (15%) and Bug with 6 (13%). The type with the least representation is Ice, you jerks, with zero.
- 63% became a trainer due to or after a traumatic childhood experience
- 56% are minors, some thanks to the power of creative license
- 56% gave at least one of their Pokemon a nickname
- 50% battle with an offensive style
- 38% are girls
- 38% have teams with no Pokemon from their home region on it
- 38% are trainers with hair colors outside the natural spectrum
- 31% are packing legends
- 31% took the PMJ route and decided to go with the sprite look (or a slightly edited sprite look) as their character appearance
- 25% are either currently or formerly criminals
- 25% are now black thanks to the power of creative license. Have fun guessing which ones!
- 25% have Pokemon with combination signature moves
- 19% are madmen who are entering this tourney with NFEs
- 13% have a last name

ROUND 1

Match 1: Quayle vs. Rose
Match 2: Taikyu vs. Thresher
Match 3: Tsomu vs. Kiria
Match 4: Eldan vs. Nye
Match 5: Scarlet vs. Frisk
Match 6: Lenny vs. Windra
Match 7: Jethro vs. Kyro
Match 8: Alex vs. Cody

Each chapter is (at least) one battle. If the battle goes quickly, I may put two battles in one chapter. Research your opponents and decide who you want your lead Pokemon to be.
