Necessary Equipment?

I'm just getting back into the game after a while. And I was wondering about any and all items I would need/prefer to have for this coming weekend. A buddy of mine is providing a deck for me already, so no worries there. But, he kept going on about dice and whatnot. And a mat? I have money, so that's not the issue. But I would like to be prepared. I'll look like a newb regardless, but I at least want to start off on the right foot. Any advice would be awesome, thanks for your time.

You don't need a mat, it's just a nice thing alot of players have. Dice are necessary and should be clear. Deckboxes are also nearly necessary so you don't lose any cards.

Also, you'll need something to represent Poison and Burn markers. The official ones are in theme decks, but I can see almost any object being legal. Truthfully, if you aren't running anything that burns or poisons, then you don't necessarily need these markers, as your opponent will probably provide them if necessary. But you should still have them.

And as mentioned, a good amount of clear dice is very good to have, for damage counters and coin flips. Think 10. Depending on wherever you're going, a mat might be supplied for you. But if you know the layout well enough, you don't need one.

And that's it. If you're buddy is suppling a deck, then chances are he'll supply sleeves and a deckbox. But on a normal basis, those would be good to have as well.

Edit: dmaster is right. I wasn't thinking. Only one die, if you're opponent supplies the others for damage counters.

All you need is one clear dice to roll during the match, but a coin is fine too. A binder with any cards for trades (if you have any) is nice too so you can trade while you're there. If you have a DS with a Pokemon game, you can usually play other people if they have DSes as well.

dmaster out.

Also a plastic bag or something to Put your dice in so they don't get lost either. If you Already have a pokemon ID card bring that. If you lost yours or don't have one the person can provide one if you're going to a league. You'll eventually earn free cards if you're going to a league as well..

Here are some good items to bring to tournaments: (Some of them aren't as necessary as others)
Dice (For rolling (it has to be clear) and damage counters)
Poison and Burn Marker (Helps when you need it)
Sleeves (For your deck so it's protected)
Deck Box (For storing and carrying your deck around)
Play Mat (Not necessary but it's nice to play on if you have one)
Binder (To store your cards for trade)

I'm not sure how much of this you have because you said you're just starting out, and like I said not all of it is even necessary, but those are just some of the nice things to have that I can think of off the top of my head.

Edit: I take my time with a neat post and all, and then everyone beats me to what I was going to say. xD

I am just wondering...I don't mean to Hijack

I am going to play regionals next week with my son. It will be the first time for both of us in a real sactioned tourny.

Does each player still have to supply thier own dice/markers, or does each table have them already?

In most cases, the tournament won't have their own markers/die (to my knowledge). However, if your opponent has any die/markers, you can borrow theirs.

So you don't have to bring any die/markers, but it's recommended.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'll gladly check out all of the stuff mentioned above. I have a LOT of catching up to do with the TCG. I think I might buy a few boosters today actually.

You have all been a great help. I really appreciate it.

Bring sleeves and always extra sleeves and bring dice

Actually I think I am going to grab a good amount of plastics. There's no telling what new cards might turn up. I wouldn't want them to become damaged.

As far as boosters go, I was thinking about buying around 20 today. What sets have the most beneficial pulls?

I would say HGSS for playable cards, and Triumphant for rare cards Primes and such

Yea because people are discussing the rotaions for the sets for next season and It might be HGSS BS and on.

The rotation is supposed to happen in August, but who knows?

BTW, don't buy 20 regular boosters. They're not worth the money. Instead, get tins(4 packs and cool card(s), poster packs(packs + poster), blister packs(3 packs + promo card + coin), and others. They are fun and most of them provide valuable cards(for example, a Dialga G LV.X tin). There are also Clash of Legends boxes which come with 2 LV.X's! Buying 20 boosters is not efficient, but buying cool stuff will get you in a good position.

Hmm... I never really thought of it like that. Interesting. I'll be sure to take your advise. Thank you Yoshidude.
