Need Some Help Getting Started

Hey everyone, I've been a pokemon tcg collector for a while, but I now want to get into competitive play. I honestly have no idea where to start in terms of what deck to build, and I'm a little anxious to buy cards for a deck considering a new set is coming out. Should I wait until Plasma Storm comes out before I start taking suggestions on what deck to use? I'm not worried about decks that may be challenging to use, I'd rather challenge myself in order to get better. Thanks everyone, and I'm excited to join this community!

What I did when I first started was to go to pre-release event. Get to play with the new cards and people take their own decks too so you can see what they play. That or the Championship decks.

Championship decks are not legal in official tournaments.

Anyway, always glad to see people getting started with the game. The first big question is what kind of budget do you have? If you want to be competitive, it's somewhat expensive, and if you're not willing to spend a lot of money than you may have a hard time finding a competitive deck.

After you answer that, I'll get you started with some information on how to build decks and what the best way to get into the game is.

Oops, sorry about that, I completely forgot.

If money isn't a big concern, then the best place to start is by just jumping right in. You should definitely wait for Plasma Storm to come out before making a deck as at the next tournament series (States), Plasma Storm will be legal for play. After it comes out, look around on various forums to find a deck to build and just start practicing with it, whether it be at a nearby League (which are great places to go anyway) or online at playtcg.com. Make sure you're using something competitive. As you begin to practice, you'll catch on to what decks people play and the strategies to beat them. It'll take a while to get really good, so don't worry if you don't win very much when you start.
