Ruling New Rule Book Needed For All Players??

who thinks there needs to be a new rule book for all players to have as all the questions that have been asked here need to be covered properly, how many time have you played a game and lost and then asked on here about something you wern't quite sure about or got told you can't do that and got told you can. this isn't to have a moan i just think this issue need sorting out as there are people out there bending the rules and others playing by the rules or they think they are if you know what i mean. let alone this week ive asked 3/4 questions and there has even been disputes in the thread over certain things. i just think that an official rule book needs to be made and distributed to leagues across the world so everyone knows the rights and wrongs of the game instead of having to ask 4 or 5 people during a game about a certain thing and getting different answers so you dont do what you wanted to do and then get told you were in the wrong for not doing it. i love playing pokemon and have done for 5 months, but i think that the rules and regulations need sorting out.

Many thanks

Like Roxasora said, the Compendium is the biggest and best source for rulings question. If they were to release an ENTIRE BOOK containing everything the Compendium has, it would be stupid. It would cost them too much money and people could just check the real Compendium on PokeGym.

As for your problem about getting different answers to the same question... ALWAYS ask a Professor about something you are unsure of. A Professor would be the leader of your league or someone that is judging a tournament or someone that is running a tournament. They know what they are talking about and they know the answer to just about anything. Also, if you are unsure of a ruling, ask someone (i.e. your Professor) BEFORE you use it or try it in a tournament setting.

So I guess that's about all the advice I have on this subject, although knowing my luck I forgot something and Kaga will correct me... AGAIN. But who cares, this is a place to start.

Not every league leader or tournament judge is a Professor -- although they should be. I've heard horror stories about leaders and judges that appear to know less about the rules than their own players do.

The Compendium is the final authority on stuff like this. Most of my answers on here come straight out of it. Those that don't are based on my understanding of the underlying rules behind the rulings. Once you've read enough of the rulings, you start to understand how things work under the game's hood.

I agree on the need for a rulebook that transcends the existing theme deck rulebook and covers all the nuances of the game in a technical fashion. So, I started writing it a while back. You can see the results here. I won't guarantee it's 100% correct just yet, but it's correct on the stuff that matters most.

Holy haberdashery, Batman! That thing is huuuuge! Nice work (by the way other than listing off the infinite odd cases, from a glace through I think it's complete).

I think something like that should be given to every judge and professor, or at least get it promoted among people who want to play the game seriously. I don't think it should replace the official handbook though, since it's really not child-friendly. (I don't think there's a way to make this child-friendly anyway, considering its massive length.)

By the way, that compendium up there is outdated. I did a tiny bit of digging around; this would be the most up-to-date compendium, is it?

If you would actually read the forum rules of this forum, you'll find the LV.X version of the Compendium.

I have read the rules; I forgot where the current compendium was placed, if anywhere, as I read the rules before I signed up. I saw the link up there on the topic and followed a link on the bottom to the EX version. However, the EX version has no link to the Lv. X version. Furthermore, the EX version has a few rules from DP sets up to Secret Wonders (from the random scanning around that I did), so I thought it WAS the complete version.

EDIT: I checked this forum's rules, and I don't see any link to the Lv. X compendium. I never remembered seeing anything like that on the rules, and I don't see any right now.

chairman kaga do i have your permission to print off the booklet you did and hand it into my league leader? as we really need something like this.

It actually says, please read before posting =/. It should be on the top of the page. Just before the pages, and it's a "important thread".

Here ;)

Maybe you should read before posting. He was refering to Kaga's Supplementary Rulebook not anything else. Why else would he ask permission from Kaga if it was anything else? -_-

And j.payne46, read the license of his rulebook. It's at the end, page 22.

There is more to it, go read it for yourself. I suggest you read the rest of the license, but that is the part that concerns your question.

Ah, I went to "Site Discussion," as that's where I see all of the forum rules. I searched around and around and couldn't find it. The URL of the site also changed from an underscore to a hyphen, so I couldn't find that version from PokeGYm either. Thanks.

And while I have read that before I started posting here, it doesn't mean I'll remember exactly what it says or where it is...That's how I am.

Oh. When I meant this forum, I meant the TCG Rules Question forum. Sorry that you searched around for nothing.

And Kronar, I was referring to Ophie's Post, at the Compendium Part.

See, that's why it is a good thing to specify who you are speaking to. If you would have said "Ophie, it actually says..." then we could have avoided more confision. :) Although, actually thinking about it now, I guess it was kind of obvious you were talking to Ophie... but whaveter.

/me shuts up now. :x
