New Time Limit

when the time rule was used today people speed up their game at first (I entered a small friendly tornament today) and it seemed to work well. The only people who struggled to do their last 3 moves where juniors!

The use of Electronic devices is not banned, unless the Tournament Organiser states otherwise

30+3 is the best change POP could have ever made.

Having the game end on whoevers turn it currently was is the most backwards thing I've ever heard of.

I understand this hurts slower decks but it improves the legitimacy of the game tenfold.

Meh, it depends. It's biased anyhow.
You can play a deck that is easy to nab a few prizes with but hard to actually win with. The so-called speedier decks. Then, you'd have more losses thanks to this rule.
You could also play a deck that is slow but more consistent. Resulting in more wins with this rule.

I'm personally a bigger fan of speed decks, but the meta tends to shift to the slower and slower side.
The only things that gained speed the last 3 sets were because of DCE, but it's clear that the average energy per damage cost has been increased for most cards. Therefore, they increase the time limit. It's understandable I suppose, but it encourages playing "donk" decks, to bypass the new slower time limit. Not my cup of tea at all.

The other thing about the Pokemon TCG is that there are hardly any decks that have actual "explosive" turns. Most decks tend to nab 1-2 prizes every turn once they're set up and that's the max. With the entrance of Lost World, this will probably change and the game will be more strategy-oriented. Then, 3 more turns can truly turn the game around. Now it just can't really have much influence. It's quite often very foreseeable who the winner of a match will be 10 minutes in.

The only problem I have with this rule is that a Lostgar deck (that I want to run) come next set will be slower to set-up and will generally take no prize cards. So, if time runs out before you can declare victory using Lost World you will essentially automatically lose the game.

Im fairly certain that it doesnt matter if someone is up on prize cards, it matters if they haven't taken all 6.

Which is only a good thing, its not as if Gengar isnt overpowered anyway...

Yeah gengar is kinda balanced now....didnt think about it that way ^^

This rule is still confusing me.
Do the +3 turns only apply when both are tied in prizes or when neither player has taken all 6?

I have read through the thread and it's been said that it's when neither player has taken all 6 prizes but no one
confidently confirmed this (Apart from Lou and minimidget94 saying it a few times)

I think it's situational as to if it is good or bad. Just gotta play a few practice rounds and see how it goes.

kwis is right. This rule has been put in prize to prevent those guys who stall their final few turns out as long as possible while clutching on to a 1/2 prize lead. This gives those who are behind SOME time to pull back for a victory.

wait im confused, has the 30 min.-3 turn rule been officially announced as in effect now, or is it a rule that might be set in the future?

^ I think it takes place this season (So officially at BRs)

And thanks for clearing that ruling up. Looks like stallers are going to have it tougher this season ;)

I think the new time rule is pretty awesome. No more losses because time is called at the wrong moment, and, as stated above, it gives smart players a better chance against Lostgar.

Having final turns is a great idea. When final turns are called the player behind on prizes will throw it all out the window and go all-in to try and score some final prizes.

Probably a stupid question, but...
Does the +3 turns mean that each player gets 3 more turns? Or 3 turns go by? (as in your turn - your opponent's turn - your turn)

Thanks.

I think it goes,

Whoever time ended on, they finish their turn.
Next Player
First Player
Next Player

That sounds fair if that's right as well.

But I have a question as well. If they're tied at the end of the +3 Turns do they go to a next prize wins scenario? Or do you restart, and 1 prize is layed out for each player? (Forgot what that was called)

I like this new rule a lot. I always get screwed over by the time limit since I usually end up losing by time right as I'm about to start taking prizes :p

At the end of the +3 turns, if there is a clear lead, the leader is the winner.
If there is a tie in prizes, it's next prize wins.
