I played the TCG back until the end of Neo when I dropped out, mainly because there were no events near where I lived. Now many years later, and I'm not in a place that's about to have a Battle Road tournament at the end of next week, and I want to try to participate in a tournament at least once.

Anyways with that being said, I really need help building a decent playable deck for the tournament. At the moment I don't have much for viable cards (because a lot of my good cards come from Japanese prints, which aren't usable in my region), but the following is what I do have (that I think is decent):

- Reshiram (Next Destinies)
- Reshiram (Both Promo)
- Reshiram EX (Promo)
- Zekrom (Next Destinies)
- Zekrom (Both Promo)
- Zekrom EX (Promo)
- Samurott (Promo)
- Emboar (Promo)
- Serperior (Promo)
- Zoroark (Promo)
- Gyarados (Dragons Exalted)
- Emolga (Dragons Exalted)
- Wailord (Dragons Exalted)
- Slaking (Dragons Exalted)
- Marrowak (Dragons Exalted)

I'm thinking the best way I should approach this is to simply buy a starter deck, and work from there, but I'm not sure which I should purchase. Any thoughts?

Also I'm trying to avoid anything thats going to be real costly. I dont have a lot of money to spend on high -price cards, because I'm not sure if I'll continue on playing after this, or if it'll be a one-off
 
As of now, what items/supporter/stadiums do you have, as you need them to make a deck.

I think you should buy either the Zoroark theme deck or the Escavlier theme deck. The Zoroark will give you a Zoroark Swarm deck and the Escavlier theme deck will give you Eelektrik, which can help you make Zekeels, a tier 1 deck.

I'll look into those, thanks! Is there anything more I should look into getting? I'll need to start making online purchases by tonight if I want to make the deadline
 
You will need at least 4 juniper
2 more Bianca
3 more N
3 more Level Ball
4 Ultra Ball
2+ Random Receiver
4 Catcher (I know this is a big one, but its necessary)
3-4 Switch
EXP Shares (It matters what deck)
2 Super Rod at least.
Look at pretty much all the decks in the deck garage, find the most common cards, and get them. Cherens are needed too, and so are Candies if you want to run Stage 2s. Communications are great too.
 
I'll look into those as well, but right now I think the deck I'll consider going with at the moment is the Zoroark Swarm Deck. the Zekeels deck is a bit too pricey for me (considering the Raikou EX and Mewtwo EX cards that most include. I just need to find a way (if any) how to handle fighting-types

Catcher I dont think will be a big concern, since its a common (and I tend to get them 50% of the time in boosters)
 
Its uncommon but whatever.
If your goin with Zoroark Swarm, you'll need Dark Patches, Darkrai EX, Darkrais, and Double Colorless.

Anyways one of the Zoroark decks I was looking at uses Tornadus EX over Darkrai EX (as a buffer against fighting types, but both are still expensive >< ) and I dont think there is a normal Darkrai for the BW series (only EX). I'll definitely look into the Dark Patches and Double Colourless energies, but would I be better with going for Rescue Scarf, or Dark Claw (the former allows me to refill/revolve right away, while the latter increases power)?
 
Darkrai EX is coming out in a tin before long so you could easily get your hands on a couple Darkrais fairly cheaply.
 
Probably. However my fear is that the Battle Road coming to my city is going to be the only Pokemon related event this year at my location, so i probably wont be able to wait for that.
