Ruling Night Maintenance question

Can I use Night Maintenance and choose to return 0 cards to the deck?

Edit: Can't post replies, so I'll just edit the post: only reason I ask is because in every tournament I've been to, nobody has said anything about me burning NM early game so I can draw more cards... is it just that not many players actually know the correct ruling?

I believe you must take at lest one card since the discard pile is public information. If another Professor has a different answer please post it.~Mark

As far as I know, you cannot play a card when failure is known in advance (like use Night Maintenance when there's no Pokémon/Energy in your discard pile), so it would be very weird if you'd be allowed to use Night Maintenance and not pick anything. "up to x" usually means at least 1, otherwise it would be preceded by "you may ...".

But I've not been able to find any confirmation, so I might be wrong. Just posting to say that I think dragonexpert is correct.

That's how it is.. "the game" knows you have no choice...
and yes... I always thought the "up to" actually meaning 1 was funny XD

You've got to pick at least 1 card with Night Maintenance, or else you can't play it. The discard pile is public knowledge, so your opponent knows what is in the discard pile.
