Nintendo Games Losing Popularity

Maybe If Nintendo focused on other forms of entertainment aside from games like their competition with Sony and Microsoft they probably wouldn't be in the mess they're in right now it's just that they're too afraid to step away from their comfort zone that's hurting their business model in the long run.

Maybe Nintendo can make their own smartphone. That would be cool.

I know TheJWittz used this image on one of his videos. It is probably fake, but fun to Theory-Mon.... or in this case *puts on shades* Theory-DEVICE. OHHHHHHHH.

I think Nintendo is off busy doing their own thing to worry about making a smartphone. Besides, the 3DS and Miiverse already exists, so...why would they? It's not like they're really adding much...except I've heard that in some strange corner of this universe, some people actually use smartphones to make phone calls. I've never seen it, though.

Long story short, why would you be scared? Nintendo's doing fine; they need not worry and nor should you. If it is something you love doing, then by all means, go ahead and do it. But I don't see the connection between being scared of Nintendo and thinking they may go under.

Which leads me into my next point...

Are you really saying that this topic was just a result of you being loopy on painkillers?

Even if Nintendo does stop making consoles, they're still going to make games, like SEGA and Atari.

Unless worse comes to worse and Sony buys out Nintendo by going third-party like what SEGA did when they got bought out by Nintendo. Atari doesn't make games anymore since nobody bought them out after going bankrupt. Hudson Soft got lucky when they got bought out by Konami although I've yet to see a Bomberman game being released by them since they're too focused on Metal Gear and Castlevania to bother with any other IP's from Hudson Soft.

Nintendo couldn't make their own smartphone since they're not in the same business as Apple, Virizon Wireless, and T-Mobile are. If Nintendo is going to merge with any popular company that develops smartphones it better not be Verizon Wireless after what they did recently by eliminating Net Neutrality in the United States. Apple would be their best bet due to the popularity of iTunes and the Shazam mobile app also since they have access to NetFlix that makes things even better on that end.

lol

If Nintendo wanted to make a smartphone, they sure could. Are you seriously telling us that a company that fex. makes consoles with 3D screens with "3D without glasses" could not make a simple phone if they wanted?

Beats me although Nintendo's been in the gaming industry for so long (much longer than Sony and Microsoft infact) that I didn't know that they could make their own smartphone device that also plays the kind of games developed on the 3DS handheld. It seems like it'd be a step in the right direction for them nowadays with console gaming on a rapid decline partially due to the oversaturation of FPS's and the disconnect between gamers from East and West with Nintendo refusing to embrace Online Multiplayer (outside of the Pokemon main games of course).

A 4th generation smartphone is a phone that using wifi as connection. Nintendo already developed it since Nintendo DS. And it's becoming way smoother and user-friendly in 3DS.

Nintendo eshop is even better *in performance, and style* than, let's say, App store. Even with my home's wifi connection, I can go to eshop faster than I go to playstore in my phone.

They just need to put an application that works as a messenger, that provides free call *in 3DS* and you can call the 3DS a 'smartphone'. It's not that hard, actually :).

You would still need simple Wi-Fi for calls then (phones don't need Wi-Fi for calls), but it's definitely possible.

That's why I said 4G phone. Not older generation that still relly on SIM card.

But, now after I think about it once again. If 3ds ever become 'smartphone' it won't be a 4th generation. With Miiverse and Street Pass *amd their awesome games* it will be begining of 5th generation. Nintendo won't be as stupid as Microsoft to start such a thing.

And Nintendo is developer that considering what their fans need *they are not perfect, but way better than other company*, not only following trend. So even though they can, maybe they won't, except they think it is needed.

I also want to point out that people are using smartphones because the games are under $10. But Nintendo has the eshop with cheap games as well and they're better. Why don't people use the eshop instead of the app store?

That's because the vast majority of the population already owns smartphones for reasons besides gaming, and can purchase these games readily and easily without having to invest large amounts of additional money into a handheld system. You don't have to carry around a 3ds to play games on your phone. Also, most mobile games are meant to be played in very short spurts while people are waiting for things, while Nintendo handheld games typically require a much larger amount of time invested to get the full enjoyment out of them.

But I still see a lot of kids who aren't allowed to have a smartphone but use and itouch or ipad instead. In other words I don't see many kids using a 3ds or anything.

How often do you hang around children?

I didn't say I hang around kids, I said that I see a lot of kids in public using an itouch instead of a 3ds or even a 2ds.

Smartphone and tablets are mainstream and 'trend' right now. They probably just used devices that their parent/family members bought but not use anymore *replaced by another devices*,most of them will be grown up becoming spoiled trolls, that dont care nor understand impact of such a luxury but uneeded items to their children.

3ds still best seller handheld console game. Despite how low sell of wii u. So Nintendo still will be around. Nintendo survive cause their fans still love them, and Nintendo so far, not do something too dramatical to make them lose their fans. They still keep growing and put everything their have to build a child-friendly games that still can be played by older gamers *something that many older and new developers ignored*. So I know many people that awared, won't let it died easilly.

Don't expect to see a 3DS outside. It's not a phone, it's a rather large handheld, as big as the biggest Samsung or Sony phones. Its games are also ongoing, needing time and dedication in most cases. Plus, there's always that long-rooted belief that you will be laughed at if you carry a handheld around. You won't be made fun if you carry a phone, that's a common sight, but a handheld... that's nerdish. Tell me, are PSPs and PSVitas a common sight? I don't think so.
Nintendo is a gaming company, not a mobile company, and it also happens to be a company that specializes in handhelds. Handhelds are a completely different consumer base than phones, an entirely different field. Nintendo is doing well in that field, and has been doing so for many years now. It's not losing to smartphones, because simply we're talking about a different thing here.
