You must not have heard about the 3DS ;o
The name isn't final of course, and will most likely be changed. It is not another installment in the DS series, despite the current name. It is an entirely new handheld, with exclusive games and whatnot. It will be backwards compatible with the DS series (meaning it can play both 3DS games and DS games). Not too much else is known about it, except that it's supposed to have a joystick (<3) and boast graphical power on par with the Gamecube.
They should delve into it when E3 hits in a few days.

No. This time around, it might have better 3D capabilities that make images "pop" off the screen without the need for 3D glasses. But, that's just what some people have speculated... We won't really know what's what with it until E3, like Claus said.

Wasn't that a April Fools Joke? And really, unless they plan to install new technology, the best thing Nintendo can do is make a new handheld that's more computer-like. The psp has obvious flaws that DS can take advantage of. I'm fine with the DS as it is, because it serves the purpose I need it for.
I really want to see another Nintendo handheld system. I think that they are upgrading the DS too much.
The 3DS is made to compete with Apple's iPhone/Pod/Pad. They all have thousands of games for the price range of free-$3. Nintendo's already beaten Sony, now they just need to take care of Apple. Maybe the 3DS will have better internet and downloadable games? Hopefully.
It is most likely going to be using the DSi software. Graphics wise I think that Sony can beat it off.Paper PokeMaster said:

It is a new handheld... it's just been called the 3DS because we don't know what the system is going to be called... it is NOT a DS, it just plays the game... like how the DS played Gameboy Advance Games, it'll work the same kind of way
At the moment it is the 3DS notice the DS in the name. That is how I'm getting my perspective.
For some reason I think it is going to be a DS. If it was another handheld game it would be pretty popular and big right now. Though IMO Nintendo is upgrading the DS too much. :\
