No more basic search.

We no longer have anything in format that searches out basics. Dual Ball and Collector are both being rotated. So, what do you guys think will replace them? I'm thinking Level Ball and some ball-engine shenanigans + Pokemon Communication. Thoughts?

Correction: We have no more search for the overpowered basics. Basically every other basic can be searched with Level Ball, which is why Stage 2s are more viable-they're often not much harder to search out any more. Also, the new Emolga coming out is an amazing basic searcher, 2 basics for 1 energy with free retreat (although arguably Elgyem is better in Eel decks because you get the energy in the discard to use).

So are all decks going to have to start using starters again? That seems to be what it's looking like to me.

Level Ball can search every Basic Pokemons which can evolve but Ultra Ball can search EX´s
Great Ball is great too but that´s not good enough because that can´t find any pokemon sometimes, Heavy Ball can search almost every stage 2 pokemons

That Emolga is really great Basic Searcher and I think I´m gonna use it in some decks

Now the game is gonna be more exciting because people are using more Stage 2 pokemons, not only basics like in HGSS-on

Heavy Ball can get EX's too. Groudon, Zekrom, Reshiram, Terrakion, Terra EX when it comes out. Not to mention it seraches for everything that's in the Klingklang line, basics all the way up.

Yep. The other EX's have to be Pokemon Communicationed out. Yay, that includes Mewtwo EX! (because I HATE that card so much) No more big basic search(minus Heavy ball on the select few) will open up the meta and allow Stage 2's to stand a chance. (Which makes me very happy because I like playing Stage 2 decks.)

The new Emolga may be interesting to look at. Ultra Ball will be a thing, and Great Ball will be something to test out. It's kinda inconsistent, so that's an issue. I feel Communication will come back.

Communication only works in decks that play 20+ Pokemon, same with Great Ball, which makes their playability a little restricted.

I think its a shame that we lose Dual Ball/Collector. They sped up the format and were consistent late game (well Dual Ball). But, we now have to abuse starters. Like Emolga, the best one.

I agree with RougeChomp there. I think Ultra Ball will become very popular since it can search for any Pokemon at all, and we don't have to worry about discarding TOO much since Junk Arm is rotating out. Level Ball can easily search for MOST evolving basics, and even certain Stage 1's, and there's Heavy Ball to get some of the slower Pokemon like Terrakion, the EX Unova Dragons, etc.

We don't really have to abuse starters. We can usually get out what we need with draws, ball cards, and communications. In my testing, it's really not that hard and there is little need for Emolga.

I mean I agree, it is easy to get out the pokemon you need, but 1 Emolga wouldn't hurt to help you get set up. Usually, it is a 1 card tech since it takes colorless. The ball cards aren't searchable, and Emolga is. The Ball cards (not all but some) will be staples now, or your deck will be extremely slow.

Emolga wastes a spot in your deck as well as a search that could be going to something more important. Just run one extra search card in place of Emolga.

The only way to search out Emolga is by using the ball cards ;]

4 Level Ball
4 Ultra Ball
2 Emolga

for things like Garchomp/Altaria, and

4 Ultra Ball
2 Level Ball
3 Emolga

for things like Darkrai/Hydreigon.

There's still some basic search, it just doesn't say, "Search your deck for a basic."

I know. But by searching out Emolga, you get 1 more pokemon and you fill up your bench. Plus, you can reuse it.
