No Talent = Musical Success?

I never said that Zenith, I just said musicians determine who has the talent. Someone could like a song even if there is little to no talent.

musicians determine who has the talent

So that means non-musicians don't have the right to decide for themselves what is or isn't talented? Doesn't that imply stuff like "you have no right to call a food delicious or horrible unless you are a proper connoisseur", or "you have no right to use adjectives like talented to describe an artist unless you are an artist yourself?"

And what happens if a bunch of musicians don't have a consensus on what qualifies as talent? If three say yes and three say no, is it somehow supposed to cancel out and result in a null answer?

The whole issue is subjective to begin with. It depends on whose definition of "talent" is of concern. Could be someone, could be someone else. On American Idol for instance, it's the Judges' definition, and then after that the majority vote that has the final say.

Miley and Justin didn't use autotune to start their careers. Justin, in my opinion, is a very legit singer. Let it be known that he is cooler than us all.

Oh please, Justin Timberlake is more of a legit singer than Bieber ever wants to be and yet Timberlake is talented unlike Bieber. Miley is a joke especially singers like Ke$ha and Lady Gaga.

I've become so desensitized to popular culture that it doesn't matter who the heck is a pop star anymore or how they got to where they're at. Personally, the only good ones are those who don't just sing about something that has nothing to do with anything significant (which would be nobody nowadays, right?).

I'm gonna be honest with you. Justin Bieber has talent. I hated him from the start, but with his release of "Pray," and how we actually visited those kids, it's kind of touching. He has a voice that I'm sure most of us can't top, and he plays multiple instruments.

A truly talented person should be able to write their own music and perform it well. Taylor Swift is a great example. Some of us may not like her, but she's good.

^Nobody can top his voice, it's too high. Personally, I don't like his voice but I respect that others do, but its what hes about that bothers me. His songs are very poorly written(seriously, saying baby over 9000 times...), he is only popular because of preteen fangirls, and he was only hired as an attempt to make money for his label and for Usher to try and get back in the spotlight.

Wait, Justin Beiber's a boy? I had no idea!

Okay, all joking aside, I will give him credit on that fact that his singing really isn't as bad as a lot of people like to believe, but all in all he isn't all that talented (like everybody else nowadays). The age of good talent in music died before the early 2000s, if not the 1990s or whenever all the pop singers really started emerge (in all honesty, it's gotten to the point where I really can't remember anymore, there have been so many...).

I got to agree with Shadow Arceus, Bieber isn't very talented at all. He's about as good as Aaron Carter was back in the early 2000's shortly after the Backstreet Boys broke up. Even though I do find him very annoying he's a good kid at heart. Yeah most of his music sucks like crap even though he gets too much publicity as it is.

Taylor Swift is alright, but there's just not very many good artists out there these days because the music industry has broken apart from being mainstream since mp3's and music downloads hurt record sales and artists' success. Just because we have access to any song we want on the net or even on iTunes the artists themselves still aren't making as much money as they should.

Music artists these days should learn from a guy who actually has talent, who worked harder than anyone out there in music history, someone like Michael Jackson. The impact his music has had around the world is astounding, not to mention his cool dance moves and the movies he had. Most of Michael's songs had a message, most of it is about how he see's the world as well as the pain he suffers in his personal life.

You actually had a connection of what his music was talking about and that's what makes him one of my favorite music artists of all time. Sure he was at the top of his game during Off the Wall and Thriller especially his early years with the Jackson 5, however Bad was a good album as well "Smooth Criminal" and "Man in the Mirror" who doesn't remember that?, not to mention Dangerous and Invincible.

Well they're attractive. Attractiveness + technology = popularity. Look who's attractive that's really huge right now?

Zac Brown Band. You've gotta be kidding me. Someone had mentioned Michael Jackson...

This man. Is a phenom. Aside all the boy-raping stuff that people say, he devoted his life to pop. Hence, he is the King of Pop. I still listen to his music..."Hold My Hand," his duet with Akon, is amazing. Two talented men combined to make one emotional and powerful song. Love it.

Akon, he's good too. "Angel" is great, "Don't Matter" is great, but I wish songs like "Smack That" weren't as suggestive. :\

Ah someone who appreciate's Michael's music like me...

Good to hear man. I've been thinking about getting his new game on the Wii and it looks awesome! As for the "Hold My Hand" Single with Akon I think that's gonna be in Michael's last new album "Breaking News" which I believe also includes the single, "In the Back".

Yeah. It's actually kind of cool he's left an album after he's died, like, a legacy. In his memory, listen to Michael. Can't wait 'til it's released.

But while we wait, here's Katy Perry, with her bajillionth single, Firework! -___- I swear, she pumps these out like no other and they just take up space on iTunes top 10.

katy perry isnt that bad. "Teenage dream" is pretty good. especially Glee's cover of it. Evanescence is an example of a band with enormous talent (Amy lee who sings and plays piano). Her voice is amazing..if anyone hasn't heard of her/the band check this out. you won't be disappointed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5anLPw0Efmo

Anyway..getting back on topic. I don't like Justin Beiber but I like Greyson Chance, specifically his cover of Paparazzi (In my opinion better than Lady Gaga's) Although I like Gaga in her own right I think she sells her image Too much and if she put more focus into being an activist (if that's what she wants to be) she would have more credibility, respect, and overall popularity.

I think some artists indeed have 0 talent (bieber) but I also recognize as others have said..that the success of those with 0 talent is quick and fleeting..example..once bieber's voice drops I doubt he'll sell a single cd.
