Nah. This is nothing to worry about. Just because they can nuke us doesn't mean they will, and if they do, the entire world will annihilate the balls out of them afterward. gg North Korea.

Austin is just the capital. I know a more devastating hit would be El Paso (for military presenceand pop size), San Antonio (Same as El Paso), or maybe even Corpus Christi. (Major Oil target). Makes me kinda worried if it is possible for them to reach Texas. I live in SA.

o_O Does anyone know the radius of their weapons?

IDK, but if it's more than about 50 miles, I'm fucked either way.

If its in your range at all, you would hope that you're within a couple miles of it. As sad as it is, you'd probably want to be incinerated in seconds rather than have to deal with the amount of radiation poisoning you would get otherwise. (I'm suddenly reminded of Chernobyl)

If they plan to take us out with one nuke, they are wrong.

I's kind of obvious that NK wouldn't really stand a chance, but even if they hit with one atom bomb, the aftermath would be absolutely horrifying to Americans everywhere, regardless of where you live. The explosive reactions we witness from the slaughter of numerous school children would seem distant and insignificant compared to the repercussions of a nuclear attack. The morale of the country would be all over the place, and it's kind of unnerving to think that the bomb could be set off anywhere. The whole thing is something people take so lightly and think that it would never happen since it seems like such a distant concept, but in reality it really isn't. There isn't even a reason why this couldn't happen tomorrow.

On the other hand, does it really matter? Russia has WOMD capable of annihilating most of the US, but honestly, what are we going to do about it? lol

Good thing we have *some* interceptor missiles....

Good point, but from what I gather is that if NK is going to war, why not deliver a crippling blow to the giant rotb? However, as recent and past history shows, generally, when America is sneak attacked, we rage. Pearl Harbor brought us into WWII not even 24 hours afterwards. Of course, when 9/11 took place, it backfired on al-Queda. Instead of sending us into disarray, we rallied and sent out the cavalry. Basically, if NK were to nuke us they need to strike multiple targets within 12 hours before we come to bear and lay down a counterattack led by nearly the worst thing on this planet: an enraged American soldier in combat.
Bottomline: one blow will not do the job.
If they were target, say, DC, Detroit, Cali, Florida, New York City, Chicago, and Nevada, then we'd have too much problems. More like NK just made most of the North American continent uninhabitable.

I would be if they don't strike on a holiday or something. I live on the outskirts of D.C., but during the holidays I typically go back to my parents' house in Baltimore.

It was nice knowing ya, Bolt. ~ES

North Korea has nuclear armament. It would probably be crashed but don't overlook them. A war would still be a war and lots of people will die plus the economy will lower.

No, the economy will grow instead due to a war.

That statement seems so casual given the question.

Anyway, Nuclear Deterrence and whatnot. Build a Peacewalker. Don't launch one back. There are many ways to get around a nuclear strike and avoid a war. That being said there are many ways round not launching a nuke. Just a question of whether anyone wants to profit from a war or some other conspiracy theory.

Had this discussion with some officers (military)... This worked early on because we created jobs and produced lots of stuff we didnt have before. HOWEVER, this wouldnt be the same because we already have all that we need and more than enough soldiers.

I hate the fact that we, the only beings on this planet with logic and individuality, still have not evolved further enough to learn that the "flight or fight" response is not always a good idea either way.

Let me put this the easiest way I can.

Korea's military has 1 million infantry men which are rather poorly trained. Their Air Force and navy is rather outdated, they use older variants of MHI-6D Hinds and SU-25 fighters. They have no really production of major bombers yet either, their greatest weapon is the nuke and the power the atomic bomb has mentally.

NK military's is one of the best in the world. They have nuclear weapons. They can't oppose US a major threat but if NK gets Russia's/China's (they are NK's allies) help, US might not be in a very good position. US would get help from UK, France and other countries, but it would be total disaster. You are sub estimating NK but the biggest problems is that their allies (Russia and China) combined have more nuclear power than the US.

It still a war and even if US wins, the casualties will be bad and harmful. I think that NK will leave it for some years untouched but with NK pressuring all the time since the end of the Korean War, I wouldn't be surprised that they start it in around 2 years.

@Luckyfire: Fight or flight can never be forgotten or whatever. It's a necessity for survival, and is in every animal. Without it, you'd have no idea how different of a world we'd be living in.

Umm... Russia is part of the people backing the UN, so NK has lost that 'ally' and China doesn't want to get involved. As I mentioned earlier, there is a large and powerful coalition force mounting against NK. One that is unstoppable. South Korea's fighting spirit, Russia's... Well, Russia alone is enough; Japan's financial resources, the might of the USA, and its allies of France and UK.
China would be crushed. NK is their ally, but the US is one of their biggest trading partners. Going against us is biting the hand that feeds you, so to speak. If they side with NK, they can kiss their economical assets good-bye. And they know that.

North Korea would need allies for WW3 to start.

And the only country that actually helps them out a little bit (China) wouldn't be very happy if they started attacking their biggest buyer. The only way China might possibly help DPRK is if they were attacked first, which wouldn't happen either because we don't have a conservative in office.

If only! On a serious note: I heard on the news that analysts basically compare Kim Jong Un's recent rhetoric to his grandfather's when the man founded DPRK. That doesn't mean we shouldn't take the threat of nuclear war seriously, but it seems like it might be more bark than bite. Worst case scenario: NK probably would be wiped out if the so much as attempted a launch at the US or its allies. Even NK's so-called allies are either turning their backs on it or siding with the UN (which, as I recall, is really PO'd at NK right now).
