Introduction

I've decided that since a large portion of PB is into some form of electro/DJ music, why not make a thread?

Here you can post your playlists and recommendations with the hottest electronic songs at the moment, ask questions, read news, discuss the best DJs around and maybe even get into the composing side of things yourself!

As always, follow PB rules. The two key things to remember are labelling explicit content when you link to a video, and most importantly, respecting others' views on music. Remember that every piece of music means something to someone. Nobody wants a troll-fest, so let's keep it this way.

News
The electronic duo, Nero, are releasing Reaching Out as their sixth single from their debut LP, Welcome Reality.

Skrillex has announced that Flim by Aphex Twin is his favourite song of all time. Despite this being over ten years old, Aphex Twin is a well-respected act today, and even the likes of Kanye West have sampled them in pieces.

Capital FM (London)'s Jingle Bell Ball is today. This features live music from many popular artists, and is worth a listen.

The License (Doctor P Remix) - Whoo, Doctor P drops! Always epic. Glad that this keeps up the standard.

Trapdoor is a beauty. I fell in love with Feed Me after his remix of Let You Go by Chase & Status. I don't know much in the field of Hadouken, so that was an interesting and enjoyable listen.

I wasn't aware of an Internet Friends VIP beforehand, so thanks for the link to that. Even better than the original.
Having said that, on 100% No Modern Talking EP (out 12/12), it will have four tracks and a free download. Just go to their website on the day (or afterwards) and you get Internet Friends and three other free tracks. ;D

Antidote will be released in January, for those of you that are interested. I want a UK number 1, but dubstep is always in the shadows over here.

Beyond Thunderdome has some great bass.

Daft Punk:
I think Relapse has to be your best find. Some slick vocals and great bass. Now that's what I'm talking about. Hangover sounds pretty good too.

Now I expect everything Tron to be Daft Punk-related. Good to see Joker has done something of his own. xD

Bring it back is a grower - gets better as the song progresses. In this case, until you start pumping your fists. ;D
Scream N Shout is also a grower (which is very different to Skrillex's recent EPs).

House No 84 is great from the start, probably the most club friendly. I'm amazed that I haven't heard of them before.

Big updates!
Nero have released their Reaching Out video, here. The Ep will feature remixes from Wilkinson, Booka Shade and Fred Falke. I'm particularly looking forward to the Wilkinson remix, because they've remixed Example's Midnight Run (released today) and C&S' Time, with good results.

Check out Jump Back, Flux and co being great as usual.

Biggest News - Everyone's favourite Austrians are hosting a Remix Contest! This is Camo & Krooked, with a Hot Pursuit remix contest. Basically, you download the free stems, remix it yourself (with Garageband, Ableton, Cubase, whatever) and upload it to SoundCloud. The winner will get to feature on the official EP. This is a great way to get into mixing yourself, and kickstart your career by having the best DJs around listening to your mixes.

I've tried it before, and it takes a lot of skill to be successful, but remember that any remix is a good remix. :3

you have DJing and producing confused. DJing is the act of mixing a set together- multiple tracks that you likely didn't produce. Music production can either be creating originals or, as you mentioned in your post, doing remixes. It involves programs like those you mentioned (except garageband thats pretty insulting) and is generally a lot easier to do at all than it is to do well. The millions of bad remixes out there in the world would like a word with your last statement. :p If you want to hear a bad dubstep remix, search "[popular top 40 song name here] dubstep remix" on youtube and click the first result, 99% of the time you're going to get poorly produced crap. That'll also get you to remixes I've done in a couple instances, but hey!
 
Thanks, I know I tend to get my terms wrong. I'd add 'a bit', but that'd be an understatement. xD
I should rephrase that last one to 'Any remix is a good remix to someone. Although there are many awful instances, including my own.
 
Oh, it's fine to get your terms confused, Vex. I would expect esperante to know more about the subject than either of us, since he creates his own stuff. I don't have any technical knowledge about producing your own music, I just call the good ones as I see them. It'd be nice to learn, but I'm satisfied with observing trends in the music industry. :]
 
it's crazy to think that 2011 is wrapping up already... I've been looking back trying to sort through some of my favorites from this year, and some of the tracks that came out this year feel like an eternity ago. The most memorable music of all is that which I can link with a live experience, especially if it was hearing something for the first time. The moment where you just get BLOWN AWAY by a song is pretty beyond compare.

Willow Smith - Whip My Hair (Crizzly Remix)

hate all day on the original, crizzly is one of my absolute favorite new up & coming producers and this mix shows exactly why. I just heard this again recently at a club with a couple of my friends, pure energy tracks like this on a good soundsystem just make you want to punch old ladies in the head. in the best way possible.

Figure - Cutthroat (explicit)

one of my other absolute favorite new producers, this was neither the first nor the last amazing track figure has produced in 2011. i liked his page on facebook when he only had around 2000 fans, and seeing him go from that to almost 25,000 over the course of this year is really inspiring to me. I picked this track because I distinctly remember my first time hearing it, being spun by FS over a month before it was officially released. Me and my friends just had to stop for a moment after this dropped and talk about how intense of a sonic event we had just witnessed. solid stuff.

Nero - Doomsday, esperante's first experience! (explicit mc)

if you'll notice the video date vs. the release date of nero's album... yeah. this will forever be one of my favorite live music moments of all time. doomsday is the epitome of music designed to be played live, made to pump up crowds more than anything else. I will always strive to someday create that level of music. 3:00 still gives me the shivers.

Feed Me - Pink Lady

probably the single GROOVIEST track out there of 2011... this song (along with dillon francis) were inevitably a large part of bringing popular moombahton/whatever the f else you want to call 110 bpm bass music to a larger popularity. amazingly well produced track that still has me listening a solid 6 months after release.

Sub Focus - Falling Down (esperante's experience) **full quality link here**

ironic that this song was JUST posted on UKF a day or two ago... it was one of my absolute favorite moments from the entire 3 day EDC las vegas experience. that stage was constructed on a large grassy area, and the acoustics were amazing. will remain a very memorable track for me, and it was a big surprise to hear it at the end of a full sub focus DNB set!

ill post more some other time maybe but theres some first half of 2011 for ya
