Ok, seriously, Tynamos.

THESE TYNAMOS DRIVE ME TO DRINK.
I know that this is a pretty weak thread, but I'm hoping that some intelligent discussion can come out of this. Which Tynamo do y'all think is better? I'm having serious issues deciding which one I want to play.

Pros of 30 HP Tynamo:
  • Free retreat cost.

Cons of 30 HP Tynamo:
  • Tyrogue can donk it.
  • If you are slow to get Eelektriks out, Kyurem can wreck your entire set up.

Pros of 40 HP Tynamo:

  • 10 more HP
  • Chance of Paralysis with its attack
Cons of 40 HP Tynamo:
  • Has a retreat cost.

I know that the cons on the 30 HP Tynamo are pretty large, but a free retreat cost is such a big plus in decks like Magnezone Eels, or decks that have potential to donk. I would really like to hear which one you prefer, and which one you think is better for a specific deck, because I am stumped here. Keepin' this thread short and sweet.

I would consider using the 40HP one just so you dont get donked even though you will have to waste an energy to retreat in the furture.

I still haven't used this pokemon in any decks yet. But from what I have seen (and what I would do if I did play it) people seem to play both :D

I like having a free retreat pokemon on the feild, sometimes after you get knocked out all you need for the return KO might be one plus power, or energy e.t.c and you might have something like a PONT, cheren, N or something to refresh :D
It's wicked being able to promote a Sneasel / Weavile / Yanmega / Mime Jr / e.t.c so you can refresh and see if you get the card or not rather then sending out a bulky attacker and whiffing on the card you need.

The paralyze on the 40hp can come in handy as well, I've had it happen to me and I didn't have anything to get the active back to bench and it allowed them to stall that 1 turn which was enough to get energy on the feild and KO me next turn

I would use two 40 HPs to have some which can survive Kyurem, and one 30 HP in case you need something w/ a free retreat later game so you can have some one up to retreat with while you use Eelektik's ability. Example: You want to use a Mag. Prime on the bench next turn and it has 1 energy. They KO your active, so you move up Tynamo, use eel's power to attatch to Magnezone, free retreat for Magnezone Prime.
Ok, so that we complicated and poorly worded, but hopefully you get the point. Two 40s, one 30. Just imo.
BTW, if the opponent can donk by doing 30, they can probably do 40 with a +power, so a lot of the time, 30-40 HP donk wise isn't a huge difference, example, Tyrogue can still donk the other Tynamo w/ a pluspower, which basically every deck that runs Tyrogue runs as well.

I use the 40hp Tynamo, because the 10 extra hp does help a little, and if you chose to retreat you can evolve to eelectrik with the ability to reattach to something on the bench that could use the energy.

It's player preference. The Tyrogue donk doesn't matter because nobody plays Tyrogue. What matters is Chandelure and Kyurem. Kyurem makes it so that you have to get your Eels out before they get a Kyurem out (generally T2), or you just lose. Chandelure can hit an Eel for 30 and then Jirachi it the next turn, or OHKO 2 Tynamos in a turn if they get two out before you evolve them. Some pretty drawbacks against two very popular decks.

However, the retreat cost is a huge plus, and it makes the 30HP one better in almost any situation. Especially in a deck so reliant on a T1 Thunderus.

Really, the choice comes down to how many Tynamo you're using, imo. If you're using two in some crazy deck, they become very valuable, because you have so few. I tend to lean toward the 40HP ones in this case. If you're using three, it gets messier. In order to consistently start with the free retreater, you would have to use three. However, with, say, three Thunderus and two 30HP Tynamo, you're still upping your odds of the T1 Thunderus. Only running one 30HP one doesn't up them enough to justify it, though. I tend to lean toward either a 2/1 split of 30/40HP, or just all 40HP. With four, it's more clear cut, since it's easy to get the best of both cards, and you're going to have plenty of Tynamo. Especially when you only need to evolve two of them. A 2/2 split makes the most sense.

This is a player preference. I prefer the 30 HP one in my eelzone build, because it really wants to get T1 thundurus. It is at a disadvantage if it doesn't start Thundurus, so starting with a free-retreater is only preferable. I have gotten donked as a result of it, but I feel I have won more games using the free retreat than I have lost...

Go for a 2/1 split. This way you get the best of both worlds. The 40 HP for the CaKE/ Kyurem and Chandelure matchups, and the free retreat one for quick Thundurus.

I run a 3-3 line with the 40HP eels in my Zekrom, Eels, Tornadus, deck. The thing that does it for me is the extra 10HP, and I don't mind paying a retreat cost since I'm going to Dynamotor it back onto another pokemon anyway. In most of my situations, it didn't hurt to burn the energy to retreat and bring something else up anyway. In essence, it's sort of a free retreat, with an added bonus of an energy to the discard pile :D

This. After your opponent gets out a kyurem, you have no chance of getting a eelectrik out with a 30 hp tynamo. Zero chance.
