OLD: The Fake Card Resources and Help Thread

I thought they locked down those downloads ages ago.

Anyway, from what I can tell, those downloads were only intended for people who owned CS2, and it would be illegal to actually download and install that software without having purchased it in the past.

Does anyone know if it is possible to find the original artwork for the WOTC sets, and also if they can be reprinted? or anywhere (anyone) that does reprint them, I know obviously they will be fake so I thought this was he best place to put this.

I'm having a bit of trouble making the HPxx part of this image look right. Just bold doesn't look thick enough, but whenever I place a stroke of the minimum of 0.1 pt, it looks too thick. Any suggestions to get to a middle point? I'm using CorelDraw in case that's important.

Bold + no stroke at the top; bold + 0.1 pt stroke at the bottom

I'm having trouble finding a Gill Sans Extra Bold (it wasn't in the pack I downloaded). Any way I can get the Xtra bold separately?

[link=http://www.4shared.com/rar/m9OwRbfjce/Gill_sans.html]Here ya go![/link]

This package contains the whole Gill Sans family :)

For some reason the package doesn't download when I wait for it to 'download' the files. This means I can't get the file >.>

I just downloaded the .rar file, and from my phone. :p So the link is good. I'll send it to you through Skype later tonight if you still have problems.

If the link/files could be added to the OP, that would be lovely. Not sure if the one there has all Gill Sans variants.

Does anyone know how to add a color gradient to make proper Ancient Trait cards? I just realized that making them is a little more difficult than normal.

Colour gradient on what part of the card? What program are you using?

On the bottom, non-arty part of the card. Y'know, that area where it's not art and it's just the color of the card.

I'm using Photoshop CS6.

Ah... making a gradient there seems like the 'long way' to do it - I just use clipping masks on the type textures since I'm always building on previous blanks.

But if you're deadset on using gradients, here's how:
  • Make sure you're working on a new layer.
  • Select the rectangle tool.
  • Change its fill from a solid colour to a gradient. There's a preset that should be black (or your currently selected colour) that fades out to nothing/checkerboxes - select this one, because it means it's colour fading out to transparency.
  • You should be able to draw your rectangle now and it will have that fade-out colour like on Ancient Trait cards. However, it still needs tweaking.
  • Back in the toolbar where you changed the fill, click on the fill again. You should see something similar to this (but not this exactly, because I can't find any images of the thing and every time I try to screenshot it it disappears)

  • So that bar that has the gradient colours has those little 'handles' above and below it. To change the opacity and how it fades out, drag the top left handle around. It should be close to the top right handle to get that Ancient Trait fade-out. Now you just need to change the opacity of that layer containing the rectangle with its gradient, and you'll be done with the texture!

How about an easy way? You mentioned an easy way. I like easy. I just thought that was how it was done.

I use the eraser tool on the type textures and then change the opacity to anything between 70-90%. You can change the brush (and its opacity) for the eraser so it has smooth/faded edges, allowing it to look like a faded-out gradient.

When you're changing the opacity and putting artwork behind the texture, any sort of colour variations/textures (because they aren't solid colours) don't really make a difference on the 'gradient' - so, it's an easy way to make the Ancient Trait gradients.

I know I mentioned the clipping mask thing too, but you don't need to do that - it's just leftover from how type textures are done with the old BW blanks ShiningBill made. The easy way is simply just the eraser tool + layer opacity tweaking.

I don't come by here much anymore but... for anything other than colorless (as its a tri colour texture) you can use colorize/saturation, fair bit easier and faster tbh.
  • Select the area dragging the Rectangluar Marquee Tool from bottom left to roughly 1/3 of the way up (usually ends up just above the 2nd attack area, check a real one for where the colour ends on average), you should have a basic rectangle with ya dotted lines.
  • Right click > Feather > trial and error here, try starting with 18 or 20.
  • Right click again and choose copy from layer. The area you selected will now be a new layer with a decent fade from the original image into your "about to be" colour one.
  • Press ctrl + U, this opens up the Hue/Saturation window.
  • Click Colorize > set saturation to 50-60 > play with the Hue slider for your desired colour. Obviously this'll come out a very basic colour, for Grass/Psychic/Metal you should find it ok (metal just needs the saturation bar moving, not hue) - however Fire and such you'll need to duplicate the new colorized layer and play with filters, such as overlay and the like to bring out more colour.
  • Finally holosheets on top, this will potentially hide any imperfections in colorize, should they appear. And any opacity changes you feel are necessary, especially if its too "in your face".

Hey guys, I just want to quickly direct your attention over to the TCG tab on the top of the site. We actually have a "Fake Card Blanks" section under "TCG Resources." There you will find card blanks submitted by CMP to use for your fake cards.

If you are interested in submitting additional blanks, please let myself or WPM know! It would be awesome if we can have a variety of card blanks from different eras added to that page for the rest of the community to use.

Quick (and hopefully easy) image-faking help, anyone?

Last year, I was working with CMP and he shared with me some awesome .PSDs for his Neo Redux set, including a separate file that's a text placement guide. The text guide has sections for a bunch of different things with all of the fonts already selected, except that two of the fonts don't work for me for some reason. I have all the fonts from two separate TCG faking font guides (including one of the ones in the OP; the other wasn't working for me), so I'm kind of stumped as to what font to use for those sections. I left CMP himself a message on dA since it's his set and font guide and all, but I'm not even sure if he's checking up on it anymore after he swore off faking when he lost a lot of his Wikia links and info and such.

So, could someone help me with what font/style used for HP text and the font/style used for +/- for Attack damage? If it matters, this is for CMP's NeoRedux set, which is based off of the Neo-era cards.

I know the HP is Futura Std Heavy for sure but I'm not too certain for the +/- for attack damage. It'll be either some variation of Gill Sans, Futura or Frutiger (probably not Frutiger though)

I don't actually have any "Heavy" styles in my giant list of Futura fonts. "Futura Std" has a bunch of styles, but they're all light/medium/bold/condensed/oblique/book or some combination thereof. Is there a separate Heavy variety that I need to get, and if so, where can I find it?

Based on what I can see in Photoshop, I believe the +/- is some variation of Condensed Gill Sans, but I can't see enough to know anything else (and I also seem to have a bunch of Condensed Gill Sans options).
