Older Cards in Pokemon Tins?

Hey guys just a quick question about the Pokemon TCG tins that are showing up in shops around me now.

Ive been buying the EX tins with 4 boosters and they are all good but just the other day I went and got myself the Entei tin with 3 extra booster packs.

All of the pokemon had strange Lv 5 or what ever after their names and I was wondering if they were current and could be used with noral cards from the new editions.
Also the trainer and supported cards looked really strange and almost like the base set trainer cards. I was just wondering if I could mix them in with my current deck and if they would be league legal for when the next few comps come up?

Thanks everyone.

RE: Pokemon Tins?

All cards are generally "league" legal. For modified tournaments bw on is the format so the entei tin would not be legal.

RE: Pokemon Tins?

Isnt it strange that they are selling cards that are not suited to the appropriate format?

The Entei tin was released ages ago lol.
The Lv whatever cards come from the DP era

No one really gets stuff from stores in Aus because everything is ridiculously expensive (I live in Aus too). Only go for sales (I've $1 boosters at K-Mart before)

RE: Pokemon Tins?

Yeah im trying to just get it all online from now on.

I think I found $75 booster boxes on Ebay from a top seller with 100% feedback.

If its legit I will just buy it all like that now.

Does this seem real?

RE: Pokemon Tins?

Back when I was in America, a lot of retail stores still sold older tins. I've seen the legendary dogs tins and the Rayquaza/Garchomp/Charizard tins at pretty much every major retailer.

It seems real, except that its not 20 free booster packs- I have opened MANY Triumphant boosters and those are most definitely "sample packs". Sample packs only contain common cards from the set. So the title and description are misleading. Im not sure what the current conversion rate is from 50 Lira to dollars, but it could be a decent deal with just the box and the booster box- if you really need a theme deck boxed with boosters from ages ago.

So do you mean it would just be a booster box (36 boosters) with some other packs of common cards? That would be fine for me.
They have other editions, that's just the one I used for an example.

RE: Pokemon Tins?

How new or old are the Rayquaza Charizard and Garchomp tins? I know they are 4th gen and only have 3 packs now but I have all but the Rayquaza tin which my Rite Aide sells XD. I don't know what year they came out. Thanks XD. Also what set or sets did these tins come from? Thanks XD.:)

According to Bulbapedia, those are the Fall 2009 tins and were released on September 2, 2009. They were released shortly after Supreme Victors and the 3 promos are reprints of some of the cards from that set.

RE: Pokemon Tins?

I guess there are upsides and downsides to releasing too much supply for low demand, or extremely too much supply for moderate demand.

The upside is, I don't have to scour the planet to find one of these things, when these things are older than a year.

The downside is, what we see here. For those who play in modified format, they have to be very careful as to what they buy, because we are seeing up to 4 years worth of products. The players of the modified format only has to look at the year that is written somewhere on the tin, know what the oldest modified legal set is, and know what year that set was released. The only tins they would mistakenly buy would be the black and white sneak peek tins. They look like they would have black and white boosters in them, but they don't. The easiest solution would be to just buy the newest released tins. Makes it much more simpler.

WOTC does MTG differently. Rather than releasing a boatload of product, they release just enough for the year. Now I can't even find some 4 year old intro packs, because I am a huge sealed precon collector. What's worse is that they have this stupid policy where American online retailers can't ship sealed product overseas, even to Canada, and I mean, all sealed products, all the way to the dawn of the game, which doesn't make any sense. I understand it working with more recent products, since the idea of that policy is to prevent people from buying online over buying locally, you know, to keep the local brick and mortar stores in business, but older products? From what I could tell, while people in Canada has to scavenge just to get these old products, or just step in American soil, or have a PO box in the US, Americans can just go "click" and buy it online. In terms of the MTG theme decks/intro packs, usually the intro packs, or the new name for theme decks, are sold out compared to the theme decks, which is the intro pack pre 2008, because I believe they made more theme decks, but when they did the whole change into intro packs, they only printed just enough, or perhaps there are more newer players coming in, so more are sold.

I'm glad that the Pokemon TCG never has and I hope never will have this policy.
