The goal of this is to try and answer most of the common questions we get asked.

Q: How do I become a Moderator?
A: Don’t ask. All staff members are chosen by WPM. Staying active and being helpful to others are things you can try and do to try and become one. Even then you aren’t guaranteed a job.

Q: My thread I posted won’t show up. What's wrong?
A: Certain forums require threads to be approved before they will show up. Trading Corner, Game Corner, PokeBeach Groups, Rate My Team, User Tournaments, and Slateport Market require threads to be approved. Be patient and if it follows the guidelines it will get approved.

Q: I can’t reply to threads. What is the problem?
A: The Card Questions and Game Rulings Forums only allow certified Professors to reply. This was done to get rid of incorrect answers and spam. The Professor Group is currently closed.

Q: What is the maximum size Signature allowed?
A: 680 x 250 pixels. If a signature is any larger it will get cut down. You are also only allowed two images in your Signature. You can view the dimensions of an image by right clicking it and selecting properties.

Q: What is the maximum size Avatar allowed?
A: 160 x 150 or 40 KB whichever is smaller. Note that you are not allowed to have the same Avatar as any Staff Member.

Q: How do I view my Warning Level and what does it mean?
A: You can view your Warning Level in the User CP and in each of your posts. Only Staff Members and you are able to see your Warning Level. Warnings will go away in time. You can view the expiratory date in the User CP. If you manage to achieve a 100% Warning Level you get temporarily banned for a week. Do not make a new account if you get banned. Doing so will result in a permanent IP ban.

Q: I don’t agree with a warning I received. What can I do?
A: PM the Moderator you received the warning from. Explain why you don’t think you should have received the warning. Remember not to be disrespectful. Some of us hang out in the chat as well and you can talk in real time there. Generally anyone who has a symbol in front of their nick is a Moderator. If you are still not satisfied with the response you get after talking to the Moderator, talk to a Super Moderator about the situation.

Q: What is Phase Moltres?
A: "Phase Moltres" refers to the final step in WPM's three-part forum reorganization. The term was adopted by the members- it stems from WPM referring to the second part of his plan as "Phase Zapdos;" there was no "Phase Articuno." Phase Moltres has been delayed endlessly due to WPM's general unavailability, and no one, not even the mods, know when (emphasis on when) Phase Moltres will happen. But it'll happen.

As for what Phase Moltres entails, well... that's a secret!

Q: I see a post that may violate a rule. What do I do?
A: Please hit the report button and a Moderator will take care of it. All Moderators will be able to see the Report once it is sent.

Q: I was sent a rude PM or advertising PM. What do I do?
A: Please forward the PM to a Moderator.

Q: What exactly is defined as Advertising?
A: Advertising is posting a link or stating the name of a website for the sole purpose of having members join. You are allowed to link to a thread on another Forum for a reference if it is relevant to the discussion. This is something you might see in the Competitive Discussion. If you are unsure, ask a Moderator.

Q: One of my art/discussion threads was deleted. How come?
A: One of the Moderator's password's was revealed in the chat and it also happened to be their forum password. Some threads got deleted from that. We are trying to get a back up.

Q: Are Username changes allowed?
A: Username changes are not permitted at this time. Please choose your username carefully before registering.

Q: Does pb have a Pokemon Online server?
A: Yes it does. It is hosted by Dragonexpert. The server is up from approximately 7 AM - 9 PM CST. You will see him online as Arceus.

Q:Why was _____ demodded?
A: PokéBeach staff does not disclose this information about it's staff or former staff. They could have been demodded for a number of reasons, or they retired. If you really must know why, PM them.

RE: PokéBeach FAQ

First of all we would like to thank you for your interest in using the PB chat. There are two ways you can connect to the chat. The easiest way is by going to www.pokebeach.com/chat . This requires you to have Java installed on your computer. It will say warning this has both signed and unsigned code. By hitting ‘no’ you will be able to connect to the chat. The second way you can connect to the PB chat is by using a Internet Relay Chat Client. mIRC is free to use and does not require registration to use.

How to connect using an IRC:

1. Open your IRC client
2. Go to file and select servers
3. Choose to add a server
4. For description put mysteryzone
5. For IRC Server put irc.mysteryzone.info
6. For port put 6667
7. After adding it to the server list, choose to connect to it
8. Finally type /join #pokebeach

Chat Rules:

1. No swearing
2. No spamming or excessive use of caps.
3. No discussion of sexual things, drugs, religion, or politics.
4. No abuse of scripts, delimiters or censors.
5. No advertising of other Pokémon websites or non-PokéBeach channels. (ex: trying to get people to join)
6. No trolling.
7. No racist or hateful comments.
8. The chat is “rated” PG, so keep it that way.
9. This chat room is accessible worldwide, but please use the English language when chatting here.
10. No ban evasion. If you evade a ban it will result in a longer ban or a kick ban. If you have a question about your chat/forum ban, please PM or contact the person who banned you.
11. Don't argue about rules. Things are stated clearly and you should know what's allowed and not.
12. Absolutely no tricking people into quitting or abusing the ghost command. If you cause another person to quit, you will receive a ban.
13. Do not connect more than once to the chatroom with a single internet connection. Please notify a moderator if this is a problem.
14. All traders and battlers should ask in #p.b-connect to trade and battle, not in #pokebeach chat. Ignore the period after the p.
15. No asking for Action Replay, PokéSav, hacks or ROM's in the chat room. We do not provide these.
16. You should respect these rules. Do not cause problems while on the server.
17. Overall, treat others with respect and “be nice.”
18. Use your head and act like a decent human being.

Chat FAQ:

How do I change my nickname?
You can type /nick nickname or where it says Change nick to, put your desired nickname there. Do not use an offensive nickname or the name of a staff member.

Why should I register my nickname?
First of all, anyone who doesn’t know your password can’t use the nick you chose. Secondly, if you don’t have a registered nick, if someone wants to put you on a channel’s access list, they will not be able to do so.

How do I register my nickname?
Simply type /ns register password email . We strongly encourage you to use a different password than your forum password.

It tells me I have to identify myself to use this nick. How do I do that?
Please type /ns identify password .

Am I allowed to change my nick during the chat?
Yes you are, but you can’t be doing it continually. Please note if the channel mode is +N, you will not be able to change your nick.

How do I group nicknames?
Please type /ns group groupname password.

I accidentally revealed my password on the main chat. What do I do?
You may type /ns set password newpassword .

How do I talk to just a single person and not the whole chat?
Double click a person’s name to open a private chat with them. You can also right click the person’s name and select query. If you want to discuss a warning or ban, this is how to do it.

Help I can’t connect with Java.
First check to see if you have the latest version of Java. If you don’t, please update it. Sometimes Java will act up and won’t allow you to connect.

What does kick mean?
When a person is kicked it just means they were forced out of the channel. They are able to rejoin the channel by typing /join #pokebeach. Usually a reason is specified in the kick message.

Someone queried me an advertising link.
Copy it then query a moderator and paste it in the message.

How do I see the list of people who have power on the chat?
Please type /cs access #channel list . Note that if you don’t have +h or higher you won’t be able to see.

I have a chat client and would like to add some scripts. Is there someone who can help me?
You can request scripts here. The amount of time it will take for it to be posted may vary depending on what you request. A better solution is to go to the channel #mirc . The people there can assist with your questions.

I have a question that is not covered in this guide.
There are 3 ways you can get your answer.
1. If you are on the chat already, try contacting one of the following people: (If any other mod wants to be added to this list, add yourself.)
a. Shining Raikou
b. dmaster
c. dragonexpert (note, goes by Arceus as chat nick)
d. Calibre

2. You may join the #help channel. To do this type /join #help .
3. You may also post your question here.

How to create your own channel:

1. Type /join #channel replacing channel with the name of your choice.
2. You will have a new window pop-up if you are using mIRC, if you are connected via Java, there will be another place for you to click on.
3. It will then say chanserv sets mode: +O on nickname.
4. If you intend on using the channel more than once you should register it. To register your channel type in /cs register #channel key description . You will not need to remember the key unless you set mode +k.
5. It should then say chanserv sets mode: +q on nickname. It should also set mode +ntr on the channel you are on. Please continue reading to find out what more modes are and what they mean.
6. You can change the topic by typing /topic #channel topic . It will automatically cut off after a certain amount of characters.
7. You may also wish to set a successor. This person gets owner status of the channel if your nickname is dropped.

What is Pokemon Online?
Pokemon Online is a program that simulates Pokemon battling. It just requires a standard internet connection; it does not require wifi. Battles can often be done quicker by using Pokemon Online than wifi battling which, in turn, lets you get in more practice.

Why should I get Pokemon Online?
Pokemon Online gives you the ability to control everything about your team. You can choose which Pokemon are on your team, their EVs, IVs, nature, and moves. This makes it ideal for testing strategies for the Pokemon Video Game Championships. You don’t need to waste a bunch of time getting the perfect Pokemon just to discover it doesn’t work as well as you thought it does. Pokemon Online also supports doubles, and triples. Unlike the program called Shoddy, there is an import team function so you can easily import teams from other simulators. Custom commands can also be created by the person who has access to the server files. While all servers share some commands, some servers have unique commands tied specifically to them. The PokeBeach Server, which I host, has more unique commands than nearly any other server. It is the only server that has a command that allows you to do damage calculations. This is ideal for creating optimized EV spreads. This server also has a full set of help commands that stem off of /help. You can also meet new people that may end up becoming your friend. I’ve met a fair amount of people this way. Pokemon Online is updated for the 5th generation meaning it has all the Pokemon from Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. All new mechanics are implemented. The program also supports 3rd and 4th generation mechanics and Pokemon. It has music that plays while you battle, which can be toggled on or off. You have the ability to add songs that play during battle.

How do I get Pokemon Online?
You can download it from http://pokemon-online.eu/downloads/Client_17.html . Make sure you select the client that matches your operating system. Run the executable file or save it then open it.

How do I build a team?
First launch Pokemon Online. Then go into the Team Builder menu. Put your desired name in the Trainer Name field. The other fields in this tab are optional. Click on the Team tab. Select your Pokemon from the drop down list. You can start to type the name of the Pokemon and a list will drop down to select. Press the enter key on the Pokemon from the drop down list or double click it for it to appear. Double click the moves you wish it to have. Note that certain moves are not legal with others or certain abilities. Fill in the EVs field with the desired value. Select the item you wish it to hold. If the Pokemon can have alternative formes or you wish to edit its IVs to get a specific type of Hidden Power, click on the advanced button located underneath the Pokemon’s picture. Edit the values to your liking. Repeat for the other 5 slots. Then go under file>save team to save your team. You are now ready to connect to servers.

How do I connect to other servers?
Once you have built your team, hit the Go Online Button then select the server you wish to connect to. The server I host is called PokeBeach. While it isn’t up 24/7, it is usually up until 9 PM CST. My online name I go by is Arceus, not Dragonexpert.

I can't connect to a certain channel. Why?
It depends on what channel you are trying to enter. Staff channels cannot be entered by anyone that isn't staff. Team channels can't be joined if you aren't a member of that team. If you are a member of that team and can't get in, let me know so I can give you access.

I have other questions not covered here. Who do I contact?
You have a couple of options. First, see if your question is answered under the help command. If your question isn't covered there, feel free to ask in the chat. If you still don't get a response you may ask in the simple questions and answers thread.

Rules:
1. No flaming or bashing of members or staff.
2. No advertising of other sites or clans. I have a vast majority of websites blocked already. If you try and link to a website that isn't allowed it will tell you it isn't allowed. If you feel it should be allowed, PM me either here or on Pokemon Online. Staff will discuss if it should get added or not.
3. No inappropriate content in any form.
4. Do not give your password to anyone. If you forget your password, please PM me here and I will reset it for you.
5. Do not type in all caps.
6. Do not troll, pester, or beg other members.
7. Do not post excessively long quotes or battle logs.
8. Do not post links to any illegal content such as ROMs.
9. Please type in English.
10. Do not ask to become staff. Most staff positions are reserved for the forum moderators.

Consequences:

I built a pretty good size swear filter for our Pokemon Online Server. Using a word that is on the list will cause it to pick a random action. One of the actions is that it will say what Pokemon are on your current team. Another action it may do is mute you for a short period of time. It will unmute you after a short period of time automatically. A moderator will not have to intervene.

Our Pokemon Online Server has a warning system built in. You may be issued a warning. If your warning level reaches 100%, you get temporarily banned.

You may be kicked if a moderator determines that action should be taken. You are allowed to come back, but try and think about what you did to avoid future kicks. You are free to ask why you got kicked, just be nice about it.

Some actions are so bad you get banned automatically. The length of the ban is up to the moderator who banned you. You may PM me to find out the expiratory date of your ban. You will need to tell me what your online name was at the time.

RE: PokéBeach FAQ

MyCode is a form of coding that in replacement of HTML, which is much more complicated. You can use this to insert images, links and add color to your posts. You can also quote what other members said, etc. Let's begin.

Basically, all myCode codes have "tags", one at the start to begin the code and one at the end to end it.

Bold, Italics, and Underline
You can edit your text with bold, italics, or underline. All are used to put emphasis on a word or phrase. Overusing any or all of these can be considered disruptive and you will be reprimanded for it, so please use them sparingly.

To bold your text:
Code:
[b]Text here[/b]
It will look like this: Text here

To italicize your text:
Code:
[I]Text here[/I]
It will look like this: Text here

To underline your text:
Code:
[u]Text here[/u]
It will look like this: Text here

Strikethrough
Strikethrough is used to cross out text. Overusing strikethrough can result in discipline.

To cross out your text:
Code:
[s]Text here[/s]
It will look like this: Text here

Align
You can align your text in three ways: left, center, and right. Text is aligned to the left by default.

To align your text in the center:
Code:
[CENTER]Text here[/CENTER]
It will look like this:
Text here

To align your text to the right:
Code:
[RIGHT]Text here[/RIGHT]
It will look like this:
Text here

Closing your align tags will automatically align your text to the left.

Color
You can add many different colors to your text. An example is given here. You are welcome to use color in your posts. However, using colors that are not easily readable will get you in trouble.

To make your text red:
Code:
[color=red]Text here[/color]
It will look like this: Text here

Combining MyCode
You are not limited to using just one piece of MyCode per word or phrase. By combining them, you can create your own unique style of text. To combine MyCode, just put all the codes next to each other. Make sure you close all your tags, or your posts will look funny. Below is an example.

Code:
[b][s][color=blue]Here is an example of combining MyCode[/color][/s][/b]
It will look like this: Here is an example of combining MyCode

Quoting
If you want to show what someone else said in your post, you can either use the " "" quote " button at the bottom of anyone's post to automatically put that person's post in quote tags, or you can type it out yourself.

To quote text:
Code:
[quote=USERNAME GOES HERE]This is what they said[/quote]
It should look like this:
USERNAME GOES HERE said:
This is what they said

Hotlinking
A hotlink is text that contains a link to another page. Clicking the hotlink will take you to the page. Linking to inappropriate sites will result in a ban, no questions asked.

There are two ways to make a hotlink. First, you can put the link between some URL tags, like so.

Code:
[url]www.google.com[/url]
It should look like this: www.google.com

You can also choose to make the link a separate word or phrase that will still take a user to your chosen link. To do this, put the URL of the site you want the person to visit inside the first URL tag, preceded by an equals sign. Then, where you would normally put your link, just put your word or phrase. Then close the URL tag as normal, and there you have it. See below:

Code:
[url=www.google.com]This link takes you to Google's home page[/url]
It should look like this: This link takes you to Google's home page

Bulleted Lists
If you want to make a list in your post look spiffy, use this.

To make a list with bullets:
Code:
[list]
[*]Glaceon
[*]Suicune
[*]Buneary
[/list]
It should look like this:
  • Glaceon
  • Suicune
  • Buneary

Numerical Lists
This is similar to making a bulleted list, but numbers are used instead.

To make a list with numbers:
Code:
[list=1]
[*]Luxray
[*]Buizel
[*]Dragonair
[/list]
It should look like this:
  1. Luxray
  2. Buizel
  3. Dragonair

Images
You have the option to insert images into your post. Excessively large posts can be considered disruptive and may make users with slow connections unnecessarily lag. To avoid this, provide a link to your image instead. All images posted must remain suitable for all ages.

To insert an image into your post, put the image link inside img tags:
Code:
[IMG]http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif[/IMG]

In your post, the actual image appears:
logo.gif

Image Hotlink
Similar to creating a custom text hotlink, you an also use a picture. Instead of putting a custom word or phrase in the URL tags, put the img tags inside the URL tags. See below for an example.

To make an image hotlink:
Code:
[url=http://www.google.com][img]http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif[/img][/url]
It will look like this:

Now instead of text taking you to a different page, an image is used instead.

Tables: Tables are used to create a much more organized chart. You must first begin a table then start a table row. Once you start a table row, you will need to start a table cell. Credit to dragonexpert for this code.

Code:
[table][tr][td]Cell 1,1[/td][td]Cell 2,1[/td][/tr][tr][td]Cell 1,2[/td][td]Cell 2,2[/td][/tr][/table]
Cell 1,1Cell 2,1
Cell 1,2Cell 2,2

Background Color: This is used to change the color of the background where you are typing. Make sure your text is still readable. Credit to dragonexpert for this code.
Code:
[bg=blue][color=yellow]Blue background with yellow text.[/color][/bg]
[bg=blue]Blue background with yellow text.[/bg]

Spoiler: Spoilers are used to hide something by default then reveal it when clicked. Credit to Charizard88 for this code.
Code:
[spoiler]This is hidden[/spoiler]
This is hidden.

Style: Being able to control all styles at once can be handy. One must keep in mind that between each thing you are doing, you must have a semicolon or the style will not work properly. You can go as complex as you want.

Code:
[style=background-color:brown;color:white]White text.  [url=www.pokebeach.com/forums]pb Forums[/url][/style]
[style=background-color:brown;color:white]White text. pb Forums[/style]
