Discussion People Say the Pokemon Community is Welcoming and Friendly but I've Not Had the Same Experience.

I don't find anyone approachable at the locals I go to and people make fun of my deck choices and scrubbing out at my first league cup. (This is mostly on the Virbank City FB group.) Coming off of a disappointing League Cup where my confidence took a hit, the last thing I needed was such harsh feedback. I like the people on this site but elsewhere, not so much.

I've entertained thoughts of selling my stuff but I really would regret that. I just feel down about the game as a whole right now.

Don't let the actions of a few players make you question whether to keep playing or not. If you have fun and enjoy playing then keep playing. You said it yourself, you would regret selling your stuff. I know it can get frustrating at times, but if anyone is rude to you over a game then that reflects on them, not you. Look at the League Cup as a learning experience and apply it your next tournament!

I honestly couldn't have said that any better myself

I made a post asking how Bulu could beat Metagross and mentioned how the Tapu Koko wasn't helping my matchup much as my opponent played 3 max potions in one turn and took out my Koko. The response I got was "get gud". Which is not helpful and others chimed in how they never heard of me before so I must be a bad player.

I just wanted feedback and tips to get better. I am 11-6 with my Bulu deck right now, 2 losses to Kiawe Ho Oh, which i cannot figure out how to beat when they get that turn 1. 2 losses to Metagross, 1 to Lapras (I drew NOTHING off my opponents N), and to a close Garb matchup.

Lead me to this post, I want to talk to these people. (ง'̀-'́)ง

There are a lot of people that like to troll on forums. I don't see it happen on here, but I have seen it on other sites.

Have you posted your deck list in the Deck Garage on here? I'd love to see it and give feedback.

Oh no. That's terrible to hear... I hope your experience on Pokebeach has been good though. I'm terrible at deck-building/rating so I can't really help but I know there are people like @Dark Espeon and @GekkisaiDaiNi that are really helpful in that aspect. Like previously mentioned, the Deck Garage is a great place to be! Don't give up... Some people like you and me are just starting out and learning :)

I've posted a ton on this site for help, so much that I fear I might be annoying. I get frustrated when I lose in a certain manner but I try to just take it on the chin.

I don't think you'll ever be annoying haha. Most people on this site are just kids that love to share their opinion on a hobby they enjoy. Like I'm mainly on the Creative Works side of this forum and I'd love to be of help to anyone who wants to start faking cards and all that (even though I'm also not great haha). I'm sure there'll always be people on this site that are just happy to have someone to hear their opinions.

About losing, it happens to anyone starting out. I just had a look at your Gardevoir GX deck and it looks great to me! Sometimes you just need to keep practice with your deck. Just find a small group of friends that you enjoy playing with and test out your deck with them. For some decks, doing a bit of Solitaire could be good too. Test out the steps that you would take with your ideal set-up and see how you can improve consistency with your deck. That definitely helped me out with my Decidueye GX/Vileplume deck. Finally, when you are good, take your deck to your local leagues. Your local meta may be different from the worldwide meta so you gotta take that into account. All in all, just have fun! Its just a children's card game after all!

Terribly sorry to hear people made fun of your deck choices, definitely doesn't feel good. I was fortunate enough to find people at my locals who are nice and love to play the game just as much as I do. Those who posted above were right that Pokebeach is a supportive community who will definitely help you out no matter what the deck is. That being said, if you beat those guys at locals then we'll see who's laughing:D! My best recommendation for you is to try and find another place near you and just forget about those guys. Good luck man hope things work out!

I can't even beat Lapras with Bulu. :/ There's just no hope for me it seems like. :( 16-9 with the deck. I can't win with anything to get my hopes up.

If Pokémon is nothing more than a source of disappointment and distress, I highly recommend you make the mature decision and just take a step back. Honestly, why play the game if it isn't a source of any fun, because isn't that what games are all about. That being said, do not under any circumstance sell all your cards and progress you have worked towards, because I can guarantee you will regret that decision. Heck maybe this current meta isn't for you, no reason to give up playing forever, just wait it out. Also unless I'm misinterpreting what you mean, 16-9 with a deck isn't a bad record at all, that's like a 64% win percentage:D.

I want to at least be good at something I enjoy. Had a girl telling me at League Cup how I should play and stuff and it's embarassing being talked to like i'm a scrub. I draw shit and just lose to auto win matchups and it just makes me wonder what the pros would do. They somehow always have a play for each situation, I don't. I think I know but never draw anything that helps.

I just want a deck that's good and consistent. Bulu and Gardevoir don't seem to tick both boxes. They might be good but they aren't consistent.

Well we can't go in there and play your own dang deck for you, so it's up to you to change. If you don't spend hours upon hours deck testing, expect to get out exactly what your putting in, nothing. Guess what man, pros also draw crappy hands as well, but they come up with a plan and do what's necessary to win. It's not easy to become a good player, requires a lot of knowledge of the current meta, your deck, and other cards in general. So if you really want to become good keep on going back to your locals and playing again and again, because otherwise you won't get any better.

ok thanks i will try.

Playing online is also good! Some people like @Otaku swear by it. A cheap way to get better at the game - some say even free. The online community is generally a good representative of the kind of people that you would meet at league cups.

The people at the League Cup seemed all serious and not talkative at all. I didn't get much of a response when I asked how they were. And they shake their head or bemoan the fact that I dig for a card via Sycamore when I know I am close to having game. It is greedy to Sycamore a whole hand but I know I had game if I draw a card.

Well, if you think that is the best play at that particular moment, then why not? If they think it is a suboptimal play, then maybe they don't know your deck as good as you do.

Don't feel bad about that, Metagross is really a difficult match-up for Bulu if they are quick with set-up, have Max potions and Choice Bands (and enough Field Blowers for your stadium if you play those). Your Tapu Koko damage spread (if I understand you right) is IMO the correct way to play, 2 Flying Flip's and Nature's Judgement with Choice Band is a OHKO.

Don't worry about being annoying, I used to upload 10 different decks to the deck garage daily! :p

Also, try to remember that some people are just rude. Try to brush it off and move on. Eventually, they'll realize they aren't getting anything out of being rude to someone who doesn't care, and they'll stop.

This happens. I was playing Volcanion against Metagross but I started Shaymin and dead-drew myself to a loss. It happens, its annoying, but there's always another game :)

That's really rude. I'd just avoid those people and ask for advice from other people, maybe like whoever runs the league since they would probably be a lot nicer. You can also ask for advice on Pokebeach or use the Great Google.

Hope this was helpful :)

Wait, you made a post on Pokebeach and you got that as your response?! I thought you asked that at your league...

That's very strange.

I second this.
