The 2014 FIFA World Cup is finally drawing near, (world's biggest soccer event held every four years), and Adidas (clothing brand of Japan's national soccer team) has announced that they'll be partnering with Nintendo to make Pikachu the official mascot of Japan's 2014 World Cup team! Only a few promotional images have been released so far, but other than some promotional clothing and other merchandise, what else are we to expect?
Do I smell a possible Pokémon/soccer spin-off game in the future!!??

Pikachu.... why pikachu... why no VULPIX!!

Soccer/Football pokemon game??? I don't know how to comment. I don't play sport too much, including in game. But well, maybe it will be interesting. Maybe. *I doubt it though, I will ever play it.*

Go Japan!! Go Pokémon!!:D

Glad to see Bulbasaur and Meowth are in it but..who's the coach? Please, NOT Ash!

Congratulations to Japan for such an awesome choice!
Maybe in some alternate universe Agumon is the mascot. *shot*

Also.. Mario beat Pokemon to all of the sports spinoffs. I might not see anything happening.

Please no Ash, can't agree more. But contradicting with my own comment, having pokemon trainer as a coach actually make sense, and since this is Team Pikachu, who else will suitable for the job if not Ash.

I will be in Team Rocket team, with Jessie, James and Meowth as coach, manager, and translator. And their team will contain all TR's pokemon since Season 1.
Now this is sound tempting.
EDIT:
CHANGE MY MIND *again*:
Jessie will be manager/coach
Meowth will be coach/translator
James will be the CHEERLEADER's captain!!

Now this is getting awesome.

Thanks to your avi, I have Hooh as Keeper in my mind now. Cheatingly catch all the ball that come with his mighty wing!

Team Legendary will hard to beat, since all legendary pokemon will be able to fly and some even can go through time.

Damn it, now I really thinking about the football/soccer game: pokemon version.

Keep seeing James in that girls outfit in the S.S. Anne episode shouting COOOOL!! :D

OMG! I would love to have such a big Pikachu plush/costume myself! :D
They'll have to win all the competitions now, 'cause Pikachu is there to be the very best, like no one ever was. ;)

Meowth will also be in charge of game fixing/match fixing while wearing some suspicious glasses and cap.

Wish they did things like this here in the United States!

Seeing this makes me really jealous =] But, people should remember that every nation treats things in a different way! For alot of people here, pokemon are one of the longest anime/game/manga series released ever, and unlike other anime, it has proved that it can survive many difficulties. One of the difficulties it can't outmatch though is how the united states and as a result the rest of the world handles pokemon. I don't know how many can/will agree, but pokemon in japan have amazing voice actors (like seriously, the biggest names of voice acting BEG for a spot in the anime, even small roles), good quality and logical titles. In the US, the anime is handled like another children show, similar to teletubbies. The sound quality is horrible, the voice acting is worse than just amature and every title must have a pun in it, making you wish you could pun~ish whoever comes up with those =/

But I am so overly jealous of this! If this ever came in Greece, I bet everyone would go 'dafuq' and frown upon the awesomeness that is pokemon!
