At least two people dead, more than 180 injured. Said to be a mistake of inexperience on the pilot's side.

I was out camping since Tuesday and was not using my phone nor my laptop the whole trip but my family told me about it when I got back so I'm somewhat up to date with the information.

The tail hit the sea wall, correct? I also heard one of the victims may have been hit by an emergency vehicle which is is her possible cause of death. It's a sad event for those coming to America to learn about it all and get a taste of American lifestyles. My thoughts are with all involved and the families of those who lost their life.

What I don't understand is why the pilot didn't recognize that he was coming in too steep, or if he did recognize (probably did) then why he didn't take the 7 minutes or so it takes to abort and try landing again.

I've only heard bits of the news casts on this but this really sucks. To crash up the plane on a landing is just unexpected. What's even worse is that one girl didn't even die from the plane crash, she died from being hit by emergency personnel of all things....

In the play backs you can see another plane just taking off as the landing plane crashes. I can only imagine the horror of the people watching that happen from the other plane.

This is why I don't fly, guys. xD

Because he was inexperienced. A Boeing 777 is one of the largest models of commercial jets in the world. The amount of thrust the thing needs to move quickly to alter its course would've been too much to pull away in time.
For the record, literally, iirc the control tower recording has on record that the pilot was about to abort the landing and try again, but as soon as he said that...
Let's just say gravity, fate, and nearly everything disagreed. The fact that only one person died directly because of the accident is astounding.

Haunted is right. Apparently, the pilot had less than 100 hours of flight experience with 777. The tragedy could be much greater.
