Hello everyone!
I use to play Pokemon TCG back in the day when Wizards of the coat ran the TCG of pokemon. I want to get back into it BUT I have no idea what cards or deck are any good just hoping maybe you guys could be me an idea. I know the format is changing soon *or so I'm told* also I'm not looking for a deck list... just common cards that are REALLY useful until I'm able to get a hang of how the game is played.

*last tournament I played in supporters were just coming into play*

Just some to give you an idea

Popular decks.. well there are many. Plasma (TDK) is big right now. Focuses on Deoxys ex, Thundurus ex, and Plasma Kyurem to deal a lot of damage quickly; all basics. Darkrai ex decks typically run Darkrai ex (3-4), Sableye (to retrieve items), and Plasma Absol and thanks to Sableye tend to run a lot of Trainers to be a type of toolbox deck. Blastoise decks run Blastoise, Keldeo ex (takes advantage of many water energies) and Black Kyurem ex from Plasma Storm to do high damage.

Every deck runs 4 Pokemon Catcher. They are $15 a piece.
