My first piece I have saved. I like it, even though its not that good. I made it 2 years ago when I was really upset about something.

Hmm, these aren't bad. All you need to do is get a scanner to scan these and they'll be top-notch if you can get the right software and smarts for stuff. :)

I know. I bought a Scanner/Printer combo, but it had a critical error the first time I plugged it in and doesn't work at all. ><

I'm mostly showing these for criticism. If someone requested something, I'd get someone else to scan it for me, or scan it at school/the library.

Podote,

Before I begin, I would like to, first and foremost, welcome you to PB forums. It is always a great thing to see some of the newer members taking an interest in the art section of the forums. I hope your art gallery will grow and expand as you showcase more of your artistic works and endeavors. I will, most definitely, be keeping a sharp eye and checking out recent content as it all comes along. However, with all that aside, let us move on to the main purpose of this post.

For starters, I will agree with Luckyfire that it is a rather decent start for you. A brief glance at some of your works, and I can already tell you that you have successfully nailed down a few of the basic concepts and techniques that are frequently used when it comes to the subject of anatomy. The amount of detail you have incorporated in your last two drawings details your improvement, as you have mentioned, in the last few years. Although, there are always room for a little more improvement. If you have not done so already, then it is highly recommended that you attempt at life drawing if you would like to expand and improve on your existing knowledge of human anatomy. Another viable option is to gather numerous stock images, featuring your desired subject in multiple angles and positions, and saving it to a location you will remember. Do take note that these are merely a few of the many things that you can do to improve. If none of these work out for you, then keep working at it until you find a method that works for you.

With all of that said and done, I would like to applaud you for the progress you are making. Keep working hard on it, and you will surely see great improvements that will result from your drawings.

I look forward to seeing more.

Cordially,

Morsus

Wow. Alot of advice, thank you so much. I really love when people either point out flaws in my artwork or tell me ways I can improve my overall skill. Although you didn't do the former, you really gave me some good advice. Thank you so much.

I think the main problem you have is with proportions. Arms in relation to body particularly but sometimes head size and torso width. This should be leveled out if you keep drawing though and get more experience of how the body works.

You might want to look at jaw lines too, Mario and Yoshi look like they don't have one :]

As Delta said, proportions are the biggest issue here. The hands in the last picture, well... Don't really look like hands. As an artist who's been drawing for years, and more intently studying anatomy for about two years, I can tell you that hands and faces are the most difficult parts of the body to draw. They take a loooooot of practice ._.

Have you ever done some anatomical studies? That is, looking at the structure of the human form (or animal forms) broken down into basic shapes and proportions? It might seem counter-intuitive, given that it seems you're going for an anime style here, but starting from a place of realism is very, very important no matter what style you're doing. It helps to understand what parts you should exaggerate and what parts you should keep more-or-less true to life. It will also allow you to break off into a style of your own that is unique and recognizable.
It's the difference between this (done while I was still in my copying-other-styles-and-thinking-anatomy-wasn't-that-important phase) and this (extremely stylized and rather abstract, but much more unique, and with a considerably better grasp of anatomical structures).

Also, I should stress that you should NOT study other anime to learn how to draw anime, until you're at the point where you're working out the most minute of details, like eye style. Again, it sounds backwards, but if you do that then you're basically trying to learn a framework from a heavily distorted version of the real thing, which will effect everything you draw in a bad way.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I have never tried life drawing, I guess I should take a stab at it.
