PokéBeach.com's Dream It & Design It! Contest: Water-Type

I hope drawings count.... >_< I tried hard on mine. Are we allowed to advertise in our signatures about our entries? Like I have done? If this isn't allowed, I'll get rid of it! :p

Would it be okay to add multiple drawings along with the a finalized CG image?
EDIT: I read the entire post this time

And does the pokedex entry and explanation/inspiration have to be in the image, or in the description for the image?

I don't exactly like the idea of using Facebook for the contest. Instead, why don't we have a thread that people can submit their entries too? Then, on March 31st, there can be a one-day poll that people vote for there favorite entry. I'm saying this because many people like me may want to enter, but they don't have/aren't allowed to make a facebook.

Yea, making facebook likes decide is one of the stupidest ways of deciding the winner.
I don't feel like asking a hundred people to like it in order to have a chance.

IKR!!??? I like that idea better!!! I feel like some ppl are telling their friends to "like" theirs just so they can win a contest. Hahaha some people are facebook friend junkies too :p Some people worked super-hard for the art and time to create their pokemon. Indeed, a poll on an entry here on poke'beach!!!! I entered mine last night but pppsshhh like I stand a chance!!! XD I have like only 20 friends!!!

With the entry being on PokeBeach.com's Facebook page, it'll be the PokeBeach members that do most of the liking, not your Facebook friends.

Theoretically. In reality only if there was no prize to win LOL

I thought it would be fine but someone uploaded a pic some hours after me and then flew to 60 likes in a day.
I doubt pokebeach members with facebook accounts will be more than a small fraction of that on average.

What's wrong with that? It's competition as well as skill. If you aren't promoting your work then you are missing out.
I did mention Fake Creations and you can also use your signature. If you're too lazy to do it, quit complaining. You have to work for the prizes.

I assumed this was about the actual design and art. If its like that, it's about promoting, more than anything else. If you get enough likes it doesn't matter what you submitted.

^My point exactly... Instead of dreaming and designing, it's a "WHO HAZ THE MOST FACEBOOK FRIENDZ LAWLZ" contest.

Don't enter if you don't want to, simple enough. We don't have to give prizes to people who don't want them.

Being a designer is more than just thinking of an idea, refining it, and slapping your name on it. You should defend your work, believe in your work, and promote it if you are a good designer. If you don't believe enough in your work to get out there and really try in this contest, that is NOT my problem. Facebook has more active users than this forum does, and it gives a broader stage to those who utilize it.

So basically, the good ones that entered first gets more votes then the other good ones that entered later?!?! That doesnt really make sense and is not fair to the other participants.

This appears to be the main issue people have, and I think it's a valid concern. I think basing the winners on Facebook likes alone is a very flawed way of doing things. It really does turn it into a rush to see who can get their stuff done first rather than focus on submitting a quality product.

That's not to say that the competition can't take Facebook likes into account... I just don't think it should be the sole determinant of victory.

lol I have a ton of friends like that! They all have like over 1000 friends and a ton of them are actually active. I don't really mind though, I've already asked a lot of them if they could update their status and advertise my work when I'm ready to submit it and they all said they would. The only problem is , I'm not sure what to design!

Perhaps it would have been better to keep the entries secret until the due date, and then reveal them for a period in which people could "like" them. At least then it wouldn't seem like a race to get done first.

Like the world isn't filled enough with zombies that brainwash us into believing their garbage is any good. I'm sick of it.

The moment you add a marketing aspect to a contest, everything else becomes irrelevant.

I know you are not going to change how the "art" contest runs at this point, but I would not have even considered joining if I knew.

This would have been a more efficient and fair way to conduct the contest. I don't have a problem with the "like" voting system, but if you have people submit whenever they want, then it has an unfair advantage mixed in. I hope to see some changes to this kind of system in the future (if another one ever happens).

Edit: I should go vote now too haha.

dmaster out.

That is a good idea. We can keep this in mind for next time. Use an email address/the forums for a submission period, then post them up, and have a voting period in which people could like the entries. We could also appoint staff judges and have a certain number of points given for their selections.
