I used Bellossom in Emerald and Cacturne is still better.

All right, that's signups closed. Surprisingly I didn't see a card from Delta Nite, unless I didn't dig far enough back in the topic. aschefield101 will be judging image-based and I will be judging text-based, as we did last month. I'll put the judging results up for both sometime this week.

Hey, I used a HexBello team in Sapphire. SIX BELLOSSOM.

It's a much worse FluffyChomp, and that's saying something.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card May 2013!

Yay broken face ^_^

And that was sarcastic.

FluffyChomp is AMAZING in the PLASMABOX matchup, ISN'T IT?[/sarcasm]

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card May 2013!

Actually FluffyChomp isn't half as bad as you guys think. I will play it in the Finnish nationals (but just because it has been my favourite deck this whole season).

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card May 2013!

It's not that it's bad, it's that it struggles with things like Keldeo and Darkrai, the match ups where it doesn't have anything good going for it. Yeah, it ditches all of Plasma Box's energies, it OHKO's Rayeels (if those still see play anymore), and doesn't mind Plasma Klinklang, but Darkrai and Keldeo can both potentially OHKO Garchomps, and if not, they can definitely take KO's on Altaria. If your meta is right for it, I suppose Garchomp could thrive.

Heres the run down for the image based side of the competition, congrats to PMJ! And well done to everyone else who took part! I do hope to see even more next month and of course, even more shinyness! Heres the top 3 for this month!

  2. Blui
  3. Delta

Arctic White :
5x0w8x.jpg

First things first, kudo's to using your own art, and a 3D-esque one at that! Sadly I don't feel this is Arctics best :( My main issues were with the following :
  • Blank used is extremely old now (talking 2-3 years+ IIRC) and very, very small.
  • The HP scaling seems very off.
  • The attack itself is too far down, I assume thats due to the art used, but the art should always aim to fit around the attacks/surroundings.
  • The attack energies are too small (again this might be due to blanks used)
  • The attack symbols (grass black symbols) are too big, by a fair few pixels.
  • The '+' next to the attack damage is too large, as is the 50 itself.
  • B&W symbols used for W/R/R.
  • There is no manufacture style code @ the bottom left, Pokemon copyright, set info, etc (excl. PB icon)
All in all its an ok card, the attack reminds me of Ditto for some reason. But its still ok :)

Blui :

Now for Mr Blui, my card nemesis! :p He's really gone to town on this one, thats for sure!

Theres not much I can critique regarding this card, in relation to things being right or wrong, other than :
  • Celebi illustration is way too far South and South West. I think it could do with being moved more to the east/north east. Leaving it less "in your face" as it were, and just showing its legs coming out a bit etc.
  • I'm not entirely sure if Time Weaves title text is a tiny bit too low down, but thats a very minor thing I noticed.
  • The set numbers still feel off to me, what font/strength are being used there? :)
Anywho! Epic EX era Shining cards are epic. We likes alot! :D

Delta :
Venasaur_zps9cfe197d.png

Avast! Delta enters the card arena! Everything, and I mean -everything- on this card seems to be placed in absolute perfection..... or is it?

There are only 3 things I can see, all of which are really minor. This card could basically be bunged in a set booster and you'd think its real. Great sign of a great faker imo! :)
  • Poison Shuffle's attack Energies I think are ever so slightl too far left, we're talking 2 maybe 3 or so pixels, so incredibly minor there and lawd only knows mine aren't pixel perfect either :D
  • The Retreat Cost symbols need to be a few pixels left.
  • My main thing about the card, is the image itself. I think it could've done with the holofoil treatment tbh, or maybe a more adventurous image. It just feels slightly lacking there, not much, just slightly. I'm a huge advocate for having sexy stage 2 holo images... lol

Mora :
5Bellossom_zps4d6e195c.png

Another newcomer to the faking world, we welcome Mora unto the fray!

For a first of the batch of fakes done, Mora has done really well imo. Bellossom isn't used as much as I'd like, mainly due to lack of art, but its one of the cutest Pokemon you can find :D

The card itself is really nice and very well made for a first timer, there are however some inaccuracies that need addressing for the next time, hopefully this will help :
  • If this is one of metagross's Neo blanks, I'm not sure if its been changed in size or if some parts are blurry. Mainly the grass type icon, top right, has it been replaced with a really loq quality one?
  • The Pokemon Power text should be red, not orange :)
  • The attack energies look like ShinyBill's custom ones he uses on various sets, not the Neo ones (CMP has made a Neo sheet, can find that on the deviantart page.)
  • The W/R/R energies are also the wrong ones used and a bit small.
  • The classic era including the Neo sets, used -30 for resistances, not -20.
  • The Pokedex entry font seems a little off, not sure about that one :)
  • Your missing illustration credit (bottom left) copyright (bottom middle) and rarity, should there need to be an icon thar.
All in all great card, font's seem pretty well spot on, save for the above. Can't wait to see how Mora gets on with a little more experience, especially as this is the first comp entry! :)

Now for the card behemoth that is, PMJ!

PMJ has seriously gone into perfection overdrive on this one. Everything, except for 2 things are perfectly placed. I had to check twice just to make sure I wasn't going mad lol
  • Ability icon should be a few pixels to the left, thus the attack titles too. The icon itself should stick out a bit, not inline with the attack text.
  • Same as the above, but for attack energies.
Thats it folks, everything is perfect down to the art used. I love that art so much and that Pokemon's entire evo line tbh. Super congrats on that one PMJ!

rally :
SpinarakCard50paintupload_zpsc76ae682.png

Yet another newcomer to the image faking arena, we have rally! Another one deciding to take on the classic era and quite rightly so, theres nothing better than the first few sets, imo! :)

Its a really nice attempt at a fake card I think. There are placement issues, fonts etc (see below) but I do love that image used. (I'm assuming GIMP was used.)
  • The HP text is a bit too large/thick.
  • The Pokemon dimensions text (underneath the illus.) I think the wrong font is used there, which one was that?
  • Font again for the attack, not sure which ones were used again for that area but they seem a bit off :)
  • Same as above for Pokedex at the bottom.
Saying that though, the card has a simple attack for a basic card, but simplicity doesn't always mean boring. I like the card and look forward to more! :)

reggie mcgigas :

Regig's turn! I'd still call Regi new-ish, but he's slowly heading towards pro now. I just think there are still font issues (which he has spoke of a fair bit before) that let the card down really.

The card itself is very simple and lacks in the illus. dept I feel too. The background however, if used with a darker holosheet (with multiply on about 70%), then color dodge on top for about 80%-100%, would show off its shinyness more. Plus Volcarona could probably do with being slightly bigger :)

I think the same thing I spoke of before, with PMJ, regarding the attack energies/ability icon needing being more to the left applies here too, minor point there.

Overall its a nice and simple card, just lacks a bit image wise and could do with fonts being sorted, as best as they could. We need to figure out why you can't download + use them though Regi; a convo for another day though :)

Oh also almost forgot, the image used and/or background seems to be poking outside the edges of the card.

Ledian - [G] - 110 HP
Stage 1 Evolves from Ledyba

Ability: Greenhouse Amplifier
Each basic [G] Energy card attached to your [G] Pokémon now has this effect "If the Pokémon this card is attached to attacks, the attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance)." You can't apply more than one Greenhouse Amplifier Ability at a time.

[G][G] Friendly Fire 10
Flip a coin. If heads prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to each of your [G] Pokémon during your opponent's next turn.

Weakness - [R] x2
Resistance - __
Retreat - [C]

First off...I love the use of color for your energy symbols. I know a lot of entries this month have those, and it does add a very nice touch to the cards. Neat!
It seems you picked Ledian as your choice, which is good because we never have enough of those. Greenhouse Amplifier appears to be word-for-word Dark Shadow adapted to BW wording. As for Friendly Fire, wow, that is one cool attack. It can't be Catchered away either, which is awesome too - plus, the damage level is in fact appropriate - it only does 30 for 2 Energy. This month is already off to a great start; I hope most of the other entries are like this too.

Solar Beam [G] [C] [C] 80+

Lol Vileplume with Drought. Wait...Vileplume with Drought? Ooh! Taking creativity one step further with a weather mechanic! I like it, I like it!
Normally you'd think weather would be a stadium, but triggered by an ability works too. Vileplume makes it sunny when it enters play (I think 'sunlight' is one word), which chains into its Solarbeam attack, which makes it break through Eviolite, Bright Down, and other nasty stuff. [Ability] Plasma Spores
When Jumpluff is put into the discard pile, you may search you deck for a Team Plasma card and add it to your hand. Shuffle your deck afterwards.

[G] Sea of Cotton
This attack does 20 damage to each of your opponent's Pokémon for each Jumpluff in play. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)
Weakness: Fire (×2) Resistance: Fighting (-30)

Retreat: 0

Flavour Text: Blown by seasonal winds, it circles the globe, scattering cotton spores as it goes.

Jumpluff! Back again in style swarming all the things. This little guy is no different - a big 1-Energy attack which is somewhat reminiscent of Mass Attack, although it does cap at 80 (unless you play in the mirror), but Plasma Ball can help. And when it's put in the discard, even with things like Ultra Ball, it's a one-time Plasma Search. Pretty cool if I do say so myself. Only real small mistakes are the lack of 'reveal it' on the Ability, and I'd put 20x on the attack. But otherwise, looks great!

"This Pokemon's attacks do 20 more damage to the Active Pokemon for each [G] Energy attached to this Pokemon (before applying Weakness and Resistance)."
The attack is fine, wording wise.

Venusaur! No surprises there, but it actually looks quite interesting, It can hit 50, 90, or 130 based on whether or not DCE is used...but if Energy Trans is an option (and it commonly is), Venusaur can work well. Effect Spore I can see having a clause that says you can't choose more than 1 of Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed, though, because otherwise it gets confusing, no pun intended. But I have always been a fan of Special Condition spam and I think that's what Grass-types are really all about.

It's genetic structure works much like a plant. Because it uses photosynthesis, it is always enveloped in clean air.

Hmm, Leafeon. Interesting. I'm sure the most interesting bit about it is the Gardening Ability, since Leaf Blade is pretty unremarkable. Like you said, plants don't like fire or poison, so it makes sense you can't garden like that. I'm imagining a Leafeon now with a trowel and a straw hat and everything and it's making me smile. ...The reason your Wording score is that way is because there's a lot of capitalization mistakes. Armaldo can use any attack or Poké-Power of any Pokémon (both yours and your opponent's) that has a Trainer card with 'Fossil' or 'Old Amber' in its name anywhere under it as its own. (You still need the necessary Energy to use each attack.)

Put this card onto your Active Armaldo. Armaldo LV.X can use any attack, Poké-Power, or Poké-Body from its previous Level.

LV.X, how I've missed you. How I have missed you. And your choice for a LV.X is Armaldo, interestingly enough! He isn't often seen, which is a shame because he's pretty cool. This guy is a lot like Arceus LV.X - simple, but broad. He has the classic Dual Armor Poke-Body that was present in past Armaldo (and a few other things), and he can use the attack of any fossil Pokemon in play. It makes Fossilbox a feasible reality; this is pretty cool. ...I think this might very well be my favorite card this month.

Interesante. Meganium. Meganium has a reputation for having all kinds of fun tricks throughout the history of TCG, and I see this is no exception. Its ability gives Grass-types +30 to everything they do, twice if you have 2. It can search 2 Grass-types for free, and it can do its big boom attack if your field has all Grass-types. Pretty interesting.

Weakness: Fire X2

It lives at the top of 1,000 year old trees. At night, it can be seen causing wind storms with it's fans.

First thing that comes to mind when reading this card? "Running away rules!!" And that you don't have a good handle on affect vs effect. (Don't worry; I pointed out where it needs fixing.) Scyther. Harvest. Sacrifice. Ahahaha I see what you did there. The Ability...I think I get it, but the wording is tricky. It lets you attach 1 extra Energy from your hand for each Prize card you have taken, right? Closest thing I can think to word it is "During your turn (before your attack), you may attach 1 Energy card from your hand to 1 of your Pokemon. You can use this Ability during your turn a number of times equal to the number of Prize cards you have taken." And the attack would have "each" instead of "the amount of". Seems a bit of an overkill attack, though - like it's hastening the end of the game. Gigantic drawback, though - if the 120 fails to Knock Out the target, Scyther is done for. But the energy accel helps, so...seems a mite over the top.

Okay, the last one and I'm done for the month. And wow this one is cool. Its power is identical to Uxie's Set Up, but can be used only once per turn. Its attack is a lot like Lost Burn, except they go back into the deck - explaining why it's only 30x instead of 50x, since you can get them back later. But then the drawback, which is understandable, since you CAN get them back. Only note I'd make is to say "each Energy card shuffled", since attacks like that generally count cards. Text-based I must have been really generous with the points, because there were three-way ties for first AND second. The winners of text based are Lemonnade with Armaldo LV.X, Teal with Beedrill, and Zarco with Venusaur; and the runners-up were AlexanderTheAwesome with Ledian, Flygon2071 with Vileplume, and Machamp the Champion with Shiftry.

I don't know about you guys, but I really had fun this month looking at all the blanks! I'll probably post the next month's contest on Friday afternoon, since I have Battle Roads to judge at on Saturday and probably won't hit the midnight deadline, so that gives you a bit of a head start. Hopefully this time you won't read my mind and guess the theme ahead of time like you did this month.

See you guys real soon!

Yeahhh! Second to last place woot! Gratz to the winners.

I'm sure I will do text based from now on, I have no chance at all at image based thanks to my stupid computer. :p

Ushk! GG Blui and PMJ. Surprised I got 3rd with a Venasaur. I noticed my rather obvious wording errors.

I always enjoy reading through the text based cards too so real good job the month guys!

Exeggcutor was designed to be an opposite of Exeggcute.

The Ability helps with cards like Hugh, Bianca, or Tropical Beach to draw more/less cards as wanted, in conjunction with Exeggcute.

The attack would also help with Exeggcute's blandness.

Yaya 46/50 ^_^

Congrats to everyone! Interesting month, really close! Every time the entries get better and better :)

Also I foresee Fire (because Summer but it can be left for July)
