Pokémon: Battle Trozei

Anybody else find it ironic that they're releasing a 3DS download game the same day they shut off Wi-Fi for the DS?
No? Just me then.

Yep, it's just you. :p jk
Pokémon: Battle Trozei will be released on March 20th. The WiFi services of the DS and the Wii won't shut down until May 20th.
Or are you talking about another eShop game?

I love this!! I'm very sad about the fact that I STILL don't have a N3DS though.. :(
But I played the older version of Pokémon Trozei and really enjoyed it a lot!
So I'm looking forward to this.. but if it will only be able in the eShop and services will shut down (??) then I probably won't even be able to get it ?? I'm confused now..

The wifi services that are shutting down are only on the DS and Wii. (Because they're old.)
The 3DS's internet compatibility won't be affected for many, many years to come. (Because it's the current gaming system.)
Even if you won't be able to purchase a 3DS or a 2DS until late 2015 or even 2016, you'll still be able to download games from the 3DS's eShop. You have nothing to worry about, if you get a 3DS, you will be able to download it.

^ohh! Pfew, thanks, because I would really love to get me this game!
A N3DS too, but I would have to do a bank job first.. x'D

There are times when I love being wrong. :p
Got the months messed up, thanks for that.

Given the previews, the puzzles are being changed. I love that we can move them across the screen instead of just having to slide them around.

I'm definitely buying it! My twin sister and I are Pokemon....things collectors and will get it!
Apart from getting it just for the sake of getting it, it seems like a great little puzzle game that I would love to play!
Also that ALL the Pokemon (excluding the event legendaries from the Kalos region), even Arceus is in, I would take it!

I can't believe that Australia's Pokemon Link Trozei is coming first! Sorry if you're not from Australia, I mean no offence, I was over excited in a way. Not that it would offend you...

I'm actually really looking forward to this game which is quite surprising for me because the Pokemon spin-off games have honestly been so lackluster to me that I've skipped pretty much every one since the first two Mystery Dungeon games.

I never really got into the original. I think I had a friend that played it or I tried out somehow and it never grabbed me at all but the changes they've made to the game look really interesting from the touch and swap rather than the swipe the line and the way you basically battle and catch the Pokemon. That seems really neat to me and also fun at the same time. It's also only like $8 which is way better than what a full retail game would cost so that's nice. I like little cheap side puzzle games on the side and with Pokemon, this seems right up my alley.

Two new Battle Trozei themed 3DS LL's will be available to winners of Japanese contests.

Some of the Pokémon icons look so odd!

So, I picked this game up yesterday and ended up playing while I was staying in the bedroom with our cat while repair guy was here for the kitchen.

At first I was surprised at how difficult the game was until I learned 1) you can move Pokémon to a different spot, even if they don't make a match right away, and B) you can move Pokémon around during a Link Combo cascade, too. Once I discovered that, earlier levels became stupidly easy and I was suddenly doing much better. I kind of wish they had touched upon that in the tutorials, since that was the only way I had to learn how to play the game at the time. It's also the only I'm finding to do any kind of serious damage: pull together to match 4 (if a single Pokémon) or 5 (if it's a Horde battle) of a Pokémon, preferably of a super effective type, then match 3 of something else immediately after to make a Link Chance, then consistently swapping to try and get rid of everyone on the screen, hoping to get rid of a full box. Considering that one of the "stats" displayed at the end of a level is how many boxes you've managed to clear, I have a feeling I'm on track with how strategy goes in this game. Of course, this also serves to make the game much more frantic and somewhat tiring, since there's a heavy real-world time aspect, but I'm still having fun with it.

I've found that the biggest thing I'm having troubles with is recognizing Pokémon on sight to make matches quickly. I'm at the point now where I can have 2 Pokémon buddies that always show up in levels with me, and I've taken to using Kyogre and Rayquaza because they're so brightly colours that I can spot and match them easily. I've taken Heatran a couple times, since he's my strongest Fire-type, though I end up regretting it usually because his dull colouring makes me have to spend more time looking for him. I guess it doesn't help that the other Pokémon keep changing with each new level, so I never spend enough time with them to get used to them. The level I'm currently on is particularly frustrating in this respect because it has a lot of pale, pastel-coloured Pokémon (Deerling, Lickitung, Persian, a couple more I can't remember off the top of my head), so I spend a lot of concentration on which Pokémon is what and it slows me down considerably, especially since its a long level so I wanted to bring along my Chansey for healing, but that also is hard to pick out at a glance.

Overall, though, I think it's a lot of fun, and would be well-suited to a mobile game or something, if Nintendo ever goes that route. I don't think I would have ever played full 3DS game price for this, but for €8, I feel my money has been well spent and I'm enjoying playing through and trying to fill my Pokédex (16% so far!).

Question for people who have played the earlier one, since it may be similar in this version: are there ever any hints or anything what you need to do to unlock the "secret" Pokémon for each level? I know for some I've managed to unlock them without even knowing what I did, but others elude me. It would also be nice to know exactly what "triggered" a secret Pokémon I *did* find so I can maybe turn that off once I have the Pokémon, especially if it's a longer level where I don't want to waste health against someone I don't need to get anymore. If there's nothing like that, I guess I'll be waiting until the FAQs start dropping down.

Am I the only one who thinks the Pokemon getting friendly to you is adorable, my goal with this game is to be friends with all of the Pokemon :D
(And to get all the Pokemon, and to complete all the stages, etc. ;) )

Maybe I haven't been playing with the same Pokémon enough (or there's something specific you have to do to trigger it?), but I haven't actually noticed the friendship mechanic at all. >_>

You have to play with them for a while, and then at some point a message will point up, saying "Pokemon (Ex. Delphox) is becoming friendly to you", or something like that, and then when you go in to choose your supporting Pokemon, it will have small hearts coming out of it ^_^

I'm actually not that sure that catching Pokemon in the games are even remotely similar (the way they presented the game at least to me, made it seem like a new mechanic but obviously I don't know for sure as it's been a long time since I've seen the old game being played).

At any rate, Serebii has a nice location list going right now where it lists how you can get some of the harder to find/catch Pokemon here: http://www.serebii.net/battletrozei/locations/

Man, my eyesight is either getting worse from playing FFX HD Remaster for 10 hours straight (yea well I wanted to enjoy a day away from work doing nothing at all) yesterday or there are some Pokemon in this game that look too much alike. That stage with Emolga, Plusle, Minun and Pachirisu was horrible. I kept having a hard time finding matches because they all looked alike. Especially Pachirisu and Minun. That was the most annoying stage ever.

That stage hurts my eyes too, and the only Pokémon that I have left to trozei in the first zone is Dedenne. What are the odds. I really want Dedenne, but I'm so tired of replaying that stage. :p

The only stage that gave me trouble was the Unown level, but bringing Ditto helps there.
Dedenne, just equip Pikachu and go through the level again. Dedenne automatically appears.

This game is super addicting (at least to me) and the challenge is actually really nice and deceptively so.

The only fault I have with it is they put my favorite Pokemon at basically the post-game. It's like they wanted me to marathon it just to get my sweet sweet Gyarados.
