Chapter 8: The key to victory is…

’’Arcanine! Extreme speed!’’
’’Ca-nine!’’

My Arcanine rushed forwards towards the Garchomp which Cody had sent out. Whatever happened, I should always get the first strike I thought. I guess I must admit I was scared of that Garchomp. But I also blame Black Rayquaza for it. Well, actually I shouldn’t blame him for that, but another one of our old leaders… James. Black Rayquaza shared his stories with us about his battles with James. Of course, they were just sparring battles or just battles for fun, but he was able to share with us the ferocious nature of James’ Garchomp nonetheless. Black Rayquaza told us stories about James’ Garchomp being able to take down even four pokémon after one other, before fainting itself. And that was against decent pokémon. James’ Garchomp could take out whole teams with ease if they weren’t trained properly. And even tough I know this isn’t James’ Garchomp, I can’t but help to shiver at the thoughts of what a well trained Garchomp can manage to do… In the meanwhile my Arcanine had reached the Garchomp, and even tough he had a full impact, the Garchomp only stepped a few steps backwards but he didn’t seem to have any serious injuries.

’’Nice try Brian, I must admit! But it’s futile! Garchomp, use sandstorm!’’
’’Graaaaargh…!’’ The Garchomp flew up high, and whipped up a sandstorm with its wings.
’’Drat!’’ I shouted, as I knew of Garchomp’s ability.
’’Well, don’t worry, this won’t last long for your Arcanine!’’

As the sandstorm was building up, I could see my Arcanine being swallowed by it. I had to act quickly, or else my Arcanine would be lost.

’’Arcanine! Use heat wave and blow the sand away!’’

I could see a large curtain of flames break free out of the sandstorm, but it couldn’t stop the sandstorm… I’d better think of something else… On top of that, the Garchomp was still hiding in the sand, ready to attack anytime…

’’Good idea Brian, but too bad it won’t work. Now it’s my turn. Garchomp! Earthquake!’’
’’Arcanine! Jump up high to avoid that earthquake!’’

But it was already too late. The Garchomp came from above, as it jumped out of the blinding sand. As my Arcanine jumped, the Garchomp grabbed it with one of his arms, and dragged it down with him. The impact was huge, with sand flying everywhere. The whipped up sand made the sandstorm even stronger, and I could see Cody’s Garchomp jump back after standing up, and it blend in with the sand once more to become almost invisible. This was bad. My Arcanine stood up as well, heavily injured by that earthquake. He was still able to fight, but I decided to retreat him.

’’Arcanine, return for now!’’
’’Oh? Scared already? It’s a wonder your Arcanine was even able to stand up! Haha!’’
’’You won’t break us that easily, Cody!’’
’’This battle is getting better and better! I wonder who you will use next!’’

He had a point. Which pokémon would I use next? I still had my old reliable Golduck and Staraptor with me, as well as a new Skarmory, Dragonair, and a Milotic. I didn’t know what kind of moves the new pokémon had, but I had no doubt Black Rayquaza gave me some really strong pokémon. On top of that, I was only allowed to choose two other pokémon… One bad pick and it could be all over in just a single sigh… I decided to go with a reliable choice and grabbed the pokéball of my Golduck from my waist.

’’Well, here goes nothing! Golduck! Show ‘em what we’re made off!’’
’’Gol-Dhuck!’’ my Golduck shouted exited as he was sent into battle.
’’Cool! Another well trained pokémon! Garchomp, use dragon claw!’’
’’Golduck, rain dance!’’

My Golduck used rain dance, and it vanished the sandstorm. We could now see the Garchomp coming if it was going to attack, and on top of that my Golduck’s water moves were more powerful now. We could see the Garchomp rushing in over the floor, with its claws already glowing. So at least we were able to see him coming now, but only time would tell if it would be enough to save us… Then, all of a sudden I got a plan.

’’Golduck! Use light screen! And not just one of those small one’s!’’

My Golduck started to use his light screen, and as I ordered he used it on a large scale. The Garchomp broke the barrier with just a single hit tough, but my idea at least worked. In order to break the barrier it had to use its dragon claw attack, so now everything was possible again.

’’Very clever of you Brian, to block the attack with a barrier!’’
’’Thanks, and I know. I didn’t want to risk to be hit by that dragon claw of yours!’’
’’Hahaha, I can imagine that, but how will you stop it when he uses this?’’

I didn’t understand what Cody meant, until I saw it with my own eyes. Within the time length of a blink the Garchomp disappeared from our sight, and reappeared right behind my Golduck.

’’Golduck! Get out of there!’’
’’Too late! Garchomp, dragon claw!’’

I could do nothing else then just stand there and watch. My Golduck did it’s best to jump away, but Cody’s Garchomp was just way too fast. In an instant it was all over. The dragon claw attack hit head on, and my Golduck was one hit KO’ed. I had to think wisely. My Arcanine was no match for Cody’s Garchomp, and I had only one pokémon left to choose… I decided to make a gamble here. Dragon types are weak for ice and other dragon types, and I happened to have another dragon with me, so I decided to give it a shot.

’’Go! Dragonair!’’
’’Great! Another dragon type pokémon! This could be fun…!’’
’’Who knows! Dragonair, use Dragon Rush!’’

My Dragonair used Dragon Rush, and its speed was unimaginable! It simply rushed forwards even before I could finish sentence, and hit the Garchomp before he knew what was going on. I was lucky tough, as Cody’s Garchomp flinched, which gave me another opening for an attack.

’’Dragonair! Attack once more using twister!’’
’’No! Garchomp! Snap out of it, and evade that twister!’’

But Cody’s words came too late. As Garchomp came back to its senses, my Dragonair’s twister had already hit it. Cody’s Garchomp was caught in the twister’s middle, and was flung from side to side. As the attack ended, Cody’s Garchomp was already in the top of the twister, and thus a sit ended Cody’s Garchomp fell from up high and smashed into the ground. When the dust was cleared, Cody’s Garchomp tried to get back to its feet with its best effort, but he soon fainted.

’’YES!!!! We did it Dragonair!’’ I yelled in relief of beating the gargantuan.
’’Very impressive Brian!’’ Cody said with a faint smile on his face. ’’Garchomp, you did well. You may rest for now. Next time you should try harder tough, we didn’t get a clean sweep as I hoped we’d get…! Well Brian, are you ready for this? You beat my second most powerful pokémon, but are you sure you can handle the pressure on this baby?!’’

Cody looked at me with a look on his face I’ll never forget. He looked at me with some filthy look in his eyes, but at the same time he looked at me as if he got some respect for me. He had a taste of malice in his eyes, but at the same time he was getting exited. He pulled a pokéball from his belt which had big scratch on the hull of the red upper part.

’’Before I use this baby tough, I should warn you.’’ Cody said all of a sudden while holding the pokéball in his hand, ready to throw it.
’’Warn me for what?’’ I asked curious.
’’Well, this little baby of mine can easily lose her temper… She’s known to even attack trainers if her anger reaches a high point.’’
’’Don’t worry, I can fend for myself.’’
’’Alright then, but don’t start complaining I didn’t warn you! Here you go baby!!!’’

Cody threw his pokéball as hard as he could, and it almost seemed he wanted his pokémon landed from his as far as possible… I looked at my Dragonair. With such a powerful pokémon like that, there was almost nothing to fear, right? Dragonair and I both watched very tense what would emit from the pokéball… And before we knew it, we could see a steel armour full of scratches, and a mouth full of steel teeth of which a few were even broken off… The mouth was emitting a small plume of light smoke, and after a while the pokémon roared at us as if it had seen a new prey to devour… I could see the ferocious red eyes glare at me and Dragonair, and I could only wonder how Cody managed to catch such an aggressive Heatran…!

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Dear god... Heatran! So THAT'S the strongest poke he's carrying!? You've made it extremely descriptive btw - I'd be scared of that thing and it isn't even real!

I can't wait to see how THIS battle will pan out - good job!

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

I want the next chapter, really want to know how this battle ends!!!:D

Great job James!!!;)

Chapter 9: Heat of the battle!

’’Dragonair! Dodge that earth power!’’

My Dragonair jumped up, and successfully avoided the earth power the Heatran let loose, but it was only a close call. The battle between my Dragonair and Cody’s Heatran was lasting for about ten minutes now, but all that I was able to do was try to dodge Heatran’s attacks. Cody did absolutely nothing; he just stood there at the sideline. He didn’t give his Heatran any command; it just rampaged on his own. I just looked at Cody, and wondered why he didn’t give any commands. Was I because his Heatran could handle everything on its own? Or was it because his Heatran just wouldn’t take any orders from him? I had no time to let my thoughts slip on this one tough… My Dragonair was having a tough time to evade every attack Cody’s Heatran used, but the worst part was that Cody’s Heatran didn’t even show a single opening while attacking. I had to think of something pretty fast, or else it would only be a matter of time before my Dragonair would be exhausted… And when that would happen it would only be a matter of time before this battle would end… But then it eventually happened after all… With a ferocious heat wave Cody’s Heatran hit my Dragonair, and smashed it to the ground. Shortly thereafter Cody’s Heatran jumped up, and attached itself to the ceiling using its four legs. It started to store energy really fast, and I looked at my Dragonair…

’’Dragonair! Try to get out of there! Hang on!’’
’’Sorry Brian, but it’s all over.’’ Cody finally said something during this battle.
’’You just wait! I have faith in my Dragonair! There’s no way we’ll lose so easily, right Dragonair?!’’

My Dragonair looked at me with a surprised look. I knew we didn’t know each other for a very long time, but I was sure I could count on this Dragonair. I just wished there was a way to show that Dragonair could also count on me. I was just thinking about a plan. Heatran’s tough metal skin wouldn’t budge, and the many scratches and scars on it’s skin were proof that it wasn’t easily to hurt either. I just kept thinking and thinking, but my plan just wouldn’t come out… But then it was already too late. Cody’s Heatran had finished charging, and let loose of the ceiling, and came falling down directly at my Dragonair… As it was halfway down it started to open its mouth, and it used its most powerful attack at full force. The magma storm bursted downwards, but right before it hit my Dragonair I could see my Dragonair watch at me…

’’DRAGONAIR!!!!’’ I shouted at the top of my lungs.

I started running towards the scene, but it was already too late. The magma storm made it’s impact, and even I was swept aside by it. Cody moved a little backwards, but since he wasn’t running and standing put he had little trouble from the impact. I crawled as fast as I could back to my feet to see what happened. A few seconds after I stood back on my feet again, Cody’s Heatran landed with a loud thud on the floor again. The smoke slowly cleared, and I feared for the worst… But then, to my surprise my Dragonair stood there unharmed! It looked at me with kind eyes, and I could feel that it wanted to continue fighting. It felt as if we were actually getting a bond with each other, and I could feel Dragonair trusted me the full 100%.

’’I-Impossible…’’ Cody stuttered from the sideline.
’’Graaarghh…’’ Cody’s Heatran growled full of anger seeing my Dragonair unharmed.
’’So wadda ya say Dragonair? Wanna give it one last shot?!’’
’’Dragon-Aaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiir!!!’’

I didn’t know what was going on… My Dragonair began glowing brightly in white light emitting from his body, and the energy pulsing from him could be felt all around the place. Before I knew it My Dragonair stood on two legs, had wings, and was coloured a bright orange. Right before my eyes my Dragonair evolved, and my new Dragonite was ready to fight for me with everything on the line! I felt so happy at that moment that words can’t describe it. I felt happy, excited, -and maybe most importantly- confident. With a pokémon as Dragonite at my side, I regained hope in winning this battle.

’’Well, it looks like the tide in this battle has turned, hasn’t it, Cody?’’
’’I-Impossible… You’re just one big luck sack, Brian. But I should warn you.’’
’’Oh, and why would that be? I’m already quite ware of what your Heatran I capable of!’’
’’Hahaha! Not a chance! You see, my baby’s just getting warmed up!’’

I looked at Cody’s Heatran. And even tough I hate to admit it, but it seemed Cody was right. Cody’s Heatran really had some anger problems I figured, as now it was blazing with anger, and not just the expression. Cody’s Heatran was literally emitting small flares from all over his body, and the steam came pouring out from every opening Cody’s Heatran had in its body. The eyes of Cody’s Heatran even began to glow, and they looked just like two shining rubies from a distance.

’’Go! Heatran! Show ’em what you’re capable of!’’ Cody shouted a tad exited.

Cody’s Heatran dashed forward with an incredible speed, of which you wouldn’t think a Heatran would be capable of. I looked at my Dragonite. It was already waiting for my commands, and it looked at me with full confidence.

’’Alright, let’s do this Dragonite! Fly up to avoid that attack!’’

As before, even before I could finish my sentence, my Dragonite had already flown up high into the air, and Cody’s Heatran had no choice than to bite dust. My Dragonite was flying circles above the Heatran, as vultures do over their next meal. The Heatran became even more aggressive, and I clearly underestimated it… It seems that its anger reached a certain peak, as Cody’s Heatran jumped ferociously high, en even tough my Dragonite could evade it, Cody’s Heatran clamped itself stuck to the ceiling once more before making a head on jump towards my Dragonite. Once again my Dragonite managed to evade it barely. As I watched Cody’s Heatran jump around, I came up with a plan, and waited until it made another long distance jump towards the ceiling.

’’Now Dragonite! Grab Heatran and use earthquake while it can’t escape!’’

My Dragonite grabbed Cody’s Heatran while in mid air, and clamped him tight with his arms and legs. He then flew up even higher while carrying the massive weight, and made a large turn upside down with lots of effort. As both pokémon were falling down, the Heatran bursted in rage. It unleashed flames from all over its body, and roared ferociously. It then used all its four legs to clamp my Dragonite stuck. Not long thereafter they both crashed down into the earth, and a large cloud of dust and sand was whipped up, blurring our sight. I looked at Cody, and saw he couldn’t care less. Logical, I thought, since he didn’t give his Heatran any orders anyways. We both looked tense into the cloud of dust and sand, curious about the outcome. All of a sudden my Dragonite darted out of the cloud, and he flew up in a small angle, and shortly thereafter a large flamethrower darted out of the cloud, which barely missed my Dragonite since he made the small angle.

’’Dragonite! Us twister to blow that cloud away!’’

My Dragonite roared and started to flap its wings at high speed, creating a twister that not only blew away the cloud, but also could damage Cody’s Heatran if it got caught in it…! Or so I hoped… But when the cloud was gone, there only was a large crater of where the impact of where my Dragonite’s earthquake hit. Both me and my Dragonite were surprised, and looked everywhere to where a massive pokémon like Heatran could’ve went in such a short time. Did it burrow itself underground? That couldn’t be, as you could nowhere see a hole or something like that. Where could it be…?

’’Dragonite! Watch out, Cody’s Heatran could be anywh-’’

But even before I finished my sentence Cody’s Heatran came in action. We should have known where it was, as it came jumping from the ceiling, and attacked my Dragonite in its back. It clamped itself stuck on my Dragonite using its four legs once more, and during the time we were looking for it, it must have charged up its energy. As soon as Cody’s Heatran had secured that he was stuck at my Dragonite and that it couldn’t escape, it roared in triumph, as if it had already won. In the time span of less than a second Cody’s Heatran let loose a magma storm attack, and my Dragonite shouted in pain from taking the attack from close by. Not only that, but Cody’s Heatran just didn’t stop using his magma storm attack, and my Dragonite slowly succumbed to the attacks, as it had nowhere to go to in order to evade the attacks… They slowly descended towards the floor as my Dragonite lost its energy to fly… I could see my Dragonite suffer, and it looked at me at what to do. I just kept thinking and thinking, in the hope of finding a plan. My Dragonite kept calm tough, as it somehow knew I was trying to find a way to get out of this situation…

’’Brian, it’s over.’’ Cody said all of a sudden.
’’What are you talking about?!’’ I yelled back at him.
’’Since my Heatran has its anger at its highest point, there’s no way you guys can win.’’
’’Shut up! We’ll manage! You just wait and see!’’

Cody then came walking towards me, and as he stood next to me he hit me in my face. I fell to the floor, but Cody then grabbed my shirt and pulled me partly back up. As my ear met his mouth, he started to whisper…

’’Listen Brian, you know you’ve lost. But instead of accepting it, you just let your Dragonite suffer while you try to think of a solution. You should know by now you can’t win. Look at your Dragonite. It has used almost all of its energy already, and my Heatran isn’t planning on letting go anytime soon. Unless you retreat your Dragonite and accept that it lost, it’ll surely die. Think about that, and plan your next move very carefully.’’

He then let go of my shirt, and I fell to the floor once more. I could hear Cody walk back to his position, and I thought about what he said. Could it be true? Could there be no way to win this fight…? I looked at my Dragonite. It was doing it’s best to stay on its feet, but it slowly fell back to its knees… A million options came rushing trough my head, but none of those would save the day this time… What should I do…?

[End of chapter 9]

Chapter 10: Anger point reached! The key to win?

The time and space around me almost paused. I was trying to find a way to beat Cody’s Heatran, but in the meanwhile my Dragonite was suffering greatly… Cody just stood there at the other side of the battlefield. He had his arms crossed, and looked down at me as if I was some kind of worthless bug. The heat from Cody’s Heatran magma storm attack was so severe that even I could feel it from where I was laying on the floor. Even from this distance the heat was so hot you would immediately sweat, so how hot must it be from close by, in my Dragonite’s position…? I looked at my Dragonite, and I felt proud to be even the owner of such a mighty pokémon. There simply had to be something that I could do…?! I couldn’t stand up out of misery. I felt horrible. Because of me, my Dragonite was suffering, and there wasn’t even a single thing I could do to help my Dragonite… I looked at my Dragonite’s eyes, and after a while they stared back. My Dragonite looked saddened at me; because it felt I couldn’t think of something to do.

’’I-I’m sorry Dragonite… I’m sorry I’m such a worthless trainer…’’

I whispered, but I was sure my Dragonite could hear me. It looked back at me as if it was trying to say it wasn’t my fault, and it raise done of it’s arms towards my direction, as if it wanted to hold my hand while enduring all this pain… But then Cody walked back to me again.

’’What the hell do you think you’re doing Brian?! I already told you, it’s useless! Give up already! You don’t want your Dragonite to suffer, or do you?!’’
’’Of course not… But I’m sure we can win… I’m just not sure how…’’
’’YOU IDIOT!!!!!’’

Cody lost his temper, and kicked me in my hip while I was still lying on the ground. I yelled it out in pain, but Cody still kept talking.

’’Get to your senses man! You just can’t shake the thought, now can you?! Let me spell it for you: Y-o-u-H-a-v-e-L-o-s-t, and there’s nothing you can do against it! Just give u-’’

Cody was interrupted by a ferocious roar from my Dragonite. It had apparently seen that Cody had kicked me, and it was enraged beyond its limits. It was so filled with anger that it simply stood up back on his legs, bearing the heavy weight from Cody’s Heatran as well as the pain from the magma storm. My Dragonite’s body began to glow with energy, and it simply grabbed one of Cody’s Heatran’s legs and threw it off his back. Cody’s Heatran was surprised by this action, but still managed to cancel its magma storm attack and landed on all four of its feet. Then my Dragonite flew up high, and roared in anger. The bright energy surrounding my Dragonite became even brighter, and the light even emitted from its eyes and mouth as it roared. Cody and I both looked at m Dragonite in shock, as we saw that he was seemingly fully recovered from all the beating it had taken.

’’I-impossible…’’ Cody stuttered. ’’T-that’s an outrage attack…!’’

My Dragonite roared once more, and with incredible speed it dove downwards, directly at Cody’s Heatran. Cody’s Heatran jumped to the left to try to avoid the outrage, but my Dragonite simply flew in the same direction as Cody’s Heatran, as if it were a homing missile. Cody’s Heatran then knew there was no avoiding this attack, and began preparing its own counter attack. Cody’s Heatran began flaring all over its body, and flames and smoke erupted from all over it. My Dragonite speeded up its pace as it saw Cody’s Heatran preparing an counter attack, but Cody’s Heatran did the same as he saw my Dragonite descending even faster. Both pokémon roared right before they unleashed their attacks on each other, and an explosion like I’ve never seen before occurred right before my eyes! As my Dragonite hit Cody’s Heatran head on, Cody’s Heatran unleashed a combination of heat waves, and magma storms. Both Cody and I were pushed backwards by the gusts of wind that came from the explosion. As we finally stood firm again, we could see my Dragonite grabbing Cody’s Heatran and trying to throw it at the wall with all its might, but as Cody’s Heatran flew trough the sky, it turned around, and landed with its feet on the wall. At the same time he used the wall as a platform, and jumped with all its might back towards my Dragonite while unleashing another magma storm. At the same time my Dragonite reflected it by smashing the flames aside with just one arm, and my Dragonite charged in a straight line at Cody’s Heatran. The two pokémon clashed head on, and while Cody’s Heatran was biting, stabbing, and spitting fire, my Dragonite was slashing with its claws, biting back, and slamming with its tail. After a while they both jumped backwards, landing on the floor while trying to catch their breath. Then Cody’s Heatran reopened the battle by letting loose a heat wave, but my Dragonite responded by letting out a small amount of energy from its outrage. The two beams of fire and energy clashed, and resulted in another explosion. After the smoke from the explosion cleared up, we could see the two pokémon wrestle each other again from close range. While Cody’s Heatran’s front legs were wrestling my Dragonite’s arms, I could see my Dragonite was winning on pure strength as he was slowly pushing Cody’s Heatran backwards. Cody’s Heatran wasn’t giving up easily tough, and quickly jumped upwards with all its strength, forcing my Dragonite to let go as he was pushed forwards. If he wouldn’t let go, my Dragonite’s arms would rotate 360 degrees, and they’d surely break… But as soon as my Dragonite saw this, he didn’t let go at all. He simply flew up at the same pace as Cody’s Heatran jumped upwards. After they were both into the air again, my Dragonite speeded up its pace, and dragged Cody’s Heatran up even higher. As he pulled Cody’s Heatran with him, he suddenly made another turn in the sky, and prepared another earthquake attack, but Cody’s Heatran quickly countered with another magma storm, but too late. The two pokémon crashed into the floor, and Cody’s Heatran took the full impact. Both Cody and I looked in awe at the battle. We wiped the sand and dust out of our eyes, and tried to see what was going on at the battlefield. Even tough Cody’s Heatran actually took the impact, it was still stubbornly holding on to my Dragonite, and as he managed to stand up, it unleashed its stored Magma Storm attack. My Dragonite tried to fly away and avoid it, but Cody’s Heatran prevented my Dragonite from escaping. As the magma storm hit my Dragonite, it pulled Cody’s Heatran into the massive waves of flames, and both pokémon were inside the raging vortex. The intense heat became too much for both pokémon now, and even tough Cody’s Heatran was used to intense heat, even he let go of its opponent and jumped backwards. Finally both pokémon were loose again, and there was a small distance between them. Both pokémon were panting of exhaustion, and this was my moment to strike. My Dragonite was still under the effect of its outrage, so I should benefit from it while it lasted. And during my studies back at the PMC I learned that the side effect of a outrage aren’t to sneeze at either, so I’d better make this quick.

’’Dragonite! While we’re at a small advantage, use aqua tail!’’

My Dragonite made a quick leap forward, and its tail began glowing brightly blue as it close din on Cody’s Heatran. Cody’s Heatran jumped up to try and avoid the attack, but my Dragonite made a quick somersault and hit Cody’s Heatran in its belly. Cody’s Heatran flung up, and smashed into the ceiling. Parts of the ceiling came falling down as Cody’s Heatran made the impact, and this was it. Up or down. Win or lose.

’’Dragonite! Fly up, and keep punching Cody’s Heatran in its stomach with a volley of thunder punches! Make sure that when he hits the floor again this fight is over!’’

With blinding speed my Dragonite flew up, and only barely evaded the pieces of ceiling that were still falling down. The electricity was sparkling at my Dragonite’s antennas, and my Dragonite’s fists began to crackle with electric energy. As it reached Cody’s Heatran that was still stuck in the ceiling, my Dragonite began to unleash the thunder punches at full force in Cody’s Heatran’s stomach. Even tough Cody’s Heatran was slowly being freed from the ceiling and it slowly came falling down, my Dragonite just kept using thunder punches non stop, while the bright light of its outrage become brighter and brighter with each thunder punch it landed. As even my Dragonite had to come down bit by bit, I could see Cody’s Heatran was helpless against my Dragonite’s thunder punches, but that they didn’t do too much damage anyways. I looked at Cody, and saw he was pretty calm under the whole situation. He looked at his Heatran, and knew that even tough he was being beaten up; the thunder punches didn’t do too much anyways. At that point, I became somewhat desperate. If I couldn’t do it with this amount of attacks, what would then win me the match? I looked at my Dragonite, and tried to analyse its situation. I decide to make a gamble.

’’Dragonite! This is it! Our last move to try and win this match! Give it your all! Increase the speed and power in those volleys of thunder punches, and knock that Heatran back into the ceiling, where it can’t move!’’

Both Cody and his Heatran looked in shock at me and my Dragonite. But I was serious. This was it. All or nothing. In the meanwhile my Dragonite let loose a last roar of its outrage, and it literally went berserk, with the energy from the outrage crackling all over its body. It then made the thunder punches with more speed and power, en the two pokémon slowly went up towards the ceiling once more. At the same time Cody’s Heatran panicked about its situation. The thunder punches now had more impact, and there’s nothing it could do back. As Cody’s Heatran was almost back up at the ceiling, I shouted the last order at the top of my lungs to my Dragonite, hoping it would save the day…

’’Dragonite, finish it with aqua tail!!!’’

The tail of my Dragonite once more glowed brightly with blue energy, and right as Cody’s Heatran hit the ceiling, my Dragonite made another somersault and smashed Cody’s Heatran trough the ceiling with a mighty aqua tail attack. As he finished the attack, we could all see my Dragonite’s outrage came to an end, right before the dust filled our vision of the battlefield. In the view of the corner of my eye I could see a last magma storm emit from the hole in the ceiling, while Cody’s Heatran came falling down, almost KO’ed. As the magma storm hit my Dragonite, Cody’s Heatran smashed on top of my Dragonite which was exhausted from the outrage and both pokémon collapsed to the floor. All we could do for now was wait to see who was the victor after the smoke and dust cleared up…

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Flippin' eck... that's crazy power from Outrage. Seriously, wow.

As for my fic... lol. It's no biggie if you can't get the time to read it for a while - I'll just keep adding to it until it's done and you can read the whole thing in one go :p

A brief point though. I can't help but think this was a little rushed. I don't know, it was good and all, but I just feel that you didn't take your time to make this as good as you could have. There's some silly little errors that haven't cropped up in previous chapters, stupid little typos that are usually devoid from your posts.

Nevertheless, it was a good chapter, with the action you stated it would have :p. Keep up the good work when you get time :D

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Just what I expected James, this story is becoming better and better:D

This episode is a real cliffhanger, I want more of this:D:D:D

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Well, after a few action-packed chapters, here's the conclusion of the fight between Brian and Cody! And even tough you're used to reading action packed chapters now, please don't hate me for the ''not so action packed'' ending of the battle for now, as not all chapters can be action packed!;)

Nontheless, enjoy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 11: First round is over! And the winner is…

As the rumbling on the battlefield from the fierce fight started to stop, both Cody and I tried to rub the dust out of our eyes as fast as possible. We were both excited to see who the winner of the final clash was, and we both did our best to see trough the cloud of dust that hung over the battlefield. All of a sudden we heard the Galaxy Grunt shout at us.

’’Both of you! Take your original positions, or I have to disqualify you both.’’
’’Y-yes sir…’’ I said a little numb of the events going on, and on top of that, I had completely forgotten he was the judge here. I didn’t notice him at all during the fight.
’’Yeah, yeah, I know. Don’t sweat it.’’ Cody said quite calmly.

Cody and I both walked back to the positions we began the fight in, and both of us looked around of any sight of a winner on the battlefield, but it was a hopeless effort. The dust was still hanging tight, and the cloud was too thick to look trough. I looked at the grunt I hadn’t noticed during the whole fight. It was a skinny guy actually, and I bet that if I had to fight him one on one, I would have no problems beating him up. But he was one of Jupiter’s personal grunts, so instead of being tough himself he must have some really tough pokémon then I guess? I then noticed he was talking trough a headset, and I tried to listen to what he was saying while I was also focussed on the battlefield which was still shrouded in a cloud of dust and sand. Then after a while, the grunt stepped forward, en began talking to us once more.

’’Because of safety precautions the battlefield will be shut off by a force field. Both of you should step backwards as we activate the force field.’’
’’Safety precautions?!’’ Cody yelled all of a sudden.
’’Yes, safety precautions. After seeing your two pokémon fight, we decided that for the safety of the other trainers and pokémon we will activate a force field over the area where your pokémon are fighting. This is both a compliment as a warning on your pokémon. With pokémon this fierce, you both should be able to pass the recruitment survey without any effort I guess, but at the same time you should watch on them to not go loose and rampage the whole place that endangers others. Got that?’’
’’Y-yes sir…’’ both Cody and I said carefully as we saw the grunt was serious about this.

A second after I stepped backwards, a large green like barrier was raised in front of me, as a big square it covered the dust filled battlefield. Cody and I were now both locked out, and we couldn’t do anything. Just wait, and wait, and wait. It drove me insane! But then the grunt began talking again.

’’We’ll now clear the dust in the area which is covered by the forc-’’

The grunt couldn’t finish his sentence, as all of a sudden the dust in the force field was whipped up, and my Dragonite came flying at rapid speed to the side the grunt was standing. It roared furiously, and slammed to the force field with all its might to try and break free.

’’D-Dragonite!’’ I yelled in relief.
’’No way… Your Dragonite beat my Heatran?!’’
’’That’s right Cody, I won this one! We did it Dragonite!’’

My Dragonite looked up, and turned its head towards me. I expected it to be just as relieved as me, but it didn’t turn out the way I expected it would. My Dragonite looked at me, and its glare pierced my very soul. Such anger, such sadness, and even so much grief… Its eyes reflected the pain of the world, and it was as if it wasn’t my own Dragonite anymore. After I blinked once, my Dragonite darted forwards at blinding speed straight towards me. It just kept on staring at me, and I couldn’t do anything then to stare back and watch as it came closer and closer… After a while my Dragonite slammed into the force field on my side, and the spell which was cast on me was broken. I fell on the floor out of shock, but I managed to sit back up. My Dragonite was smashing the force field as if it had the intention to kill someone… In the meanwhile the dust finally cleared over the entire battlefield, and there laid Cody’s Heatran on the floor. It was beaten to a pulp, but it was still watching my Dragonite with an endless sense of rage. I slowly stood back up again, still looking at my Dragonite. We won, but at what cost? What had happened to my Dragonite…? After seeing Cody’s Heatran, the grunt made its move.

’’The winner of this round is Dragonite. The participant Cody should bring in his last pokémon. Participant Brian is currently at the lead with still two pokémon remaining.’’
’’What a bummer…’’ Cody said while calling his Heatran back. ’’I now will have to use another of my pokémon, but you already beat my two most powerful pokémon…’’
’’It’s up or down Cody. It’s your call.’’
’’Don’t worry Brian, as I’m not out of the challenge yet! Go! Banette! Use Shadow Claw!’’

Cody’s Pokéball opened, but the Banette was so fast you couldn’t even see it emit to the battlefield. Instead, my Dragonite was immediately hit by a shadow claw attack in its back. My Dragonite looked furiously around itself, but as it only could see me, it just kept bashing the force field at my side. At the same time Cody’s Banette emerged out of a rock behind my Dragonite, as it was ready to launch a thunderbolt attack.

’’Dragonite! Behind you!’’

But my Dragonite didn’t respond, and as it slowly was falling down to the floor while still smashing the force field, Cody’s Banette launched its thunderbolt. My Dragonite was hit in the back, and it cried out in pain before it fell to the floor. It then tried to stand up, and my Dragonite and my eyes met once more, but this time it was different. Instead of the eternal rage burning inside its eyes, I could see it was confused. It didn’t know what it was doing, and it tried to get its senses back. Then I knew what had happened, and it hit me as a large boulder on my head. While Cody’s Heatran and my Dragonite were falling down from that last clash, my Dragonite’s outrage must have ended. The rage we all witnessed a few seconds ago must have been the legendary side effects of the outrage. I now knew what to do.

’’Dragonite, return. You’re in no shape to fight any further. You did more then well; you’re one of the best pokémon a trainer can ask himself for! I’m proud of you and you’ve deserved your rest fair and square.’’

Cody looked at me with a grin on his face. The only Pokémon I had left now was my Arcanine, and it was already beaten up by Cody’s Garchomp. This was going to be tough… The grunt stepped forward once more, and began to talk.

’’Alright you two, this is it. You’re both at one pokémon left. I’ll drop the force field now, since your two most aggressive pokémon are out of the challenge.’’

The green like force field dissipated, and the match continued as normal. I had to think for a while. My Arcanine was a brave fighter, and it would gladly give it his all against Cody’s Banette, but what should I do? Cody’s Banette was a ghost type, so it was able to slip trough rocks and the likes effortlessly, so it could almost evade any long range attack… But then I got a plan.

’’Go Arcanine!’’
’’Arca-Ni!’’

My Arcanine emitted from its pokéball as excited as always, even tough it had already taken some damage from Cody’s Garchomp.

’’Arcanine, I got a plan, just trust me for the full hundred on this one, okay?’’
’’Arca!’’
’’Alright, use Extreme Speed!’’

My Arcanine darted forwards faster than the speed of light, but as I expected it darted right trough Cody’s Banette.

’’Brian, my boy, I know you’re desperate, but why are you doing such useless moves?’’
’’Oh, but they’re not useless Cody, just watch! Arcanine, once more!’’

Once again my Arcanine darted at Cody’s Banette, but this time my plan would work. I waited for the right moment… And right after it had passed trough Cody’s Banette I used my plan.

’’Arcanine! Now all you have to do is to turn around at the same spot, and use crunch!’’
’’Arca-Raaaaa!’’

My Arcanine stopped in its tracks the moment I gave it the order, and turned around with precise timing. And even before Cody’s Banette could react, this fight was over. The Crunch Attack from my Arcanine one hit KO’ed Cody’s Banette, and it was just as I had planned. Banette were good attack pokémon, but their defences weren’t to write home about. I looked at Cody, and to my surprise he didn’t even look angry or disappointed. He retreated his Banette, and I retreated my Arcanine, and we both walked towards each other.

’’Good job Brian. You’ve earned my respect. You are a great trainer.’’
’’The same goes for you Cody. You got one heck of a monstrous Heatran, and that Garchomp of yours is a tough fighter.’’
’’Well, Good luck with the rest of the matches Brian!’’ Cody said as he walked off.
’’Same to you Cody!’’ I yelled back at him, but he didn’t hear it anymore, or he didn’t want to hear it.

At the same time the grunt that had judged our match had walked towards me.

’’Brian Shephourd is your name, correct?’’
’’Yes sir.’’
’’Congratulations. You’ve earned 3 points. Go at the counter to give them this card, and to heal your pokémon.’’
’’Thanks.’’

I walked towards the counter to give them my victory card, and to heal my pokémon after this long and exhausting fight, but the grunt grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me back.

’’I expect you to join us Brian.’’ He whispered in my ear. ’’You’ve got some neat Pokémon.’’
’’I hope that I’ll make it too, and thanks.’’
’’Now just hurry up to the counter. We’ll soon have all the results in from the battles, and the next round should start soon. Be sure to rest well.’’
’’Thanks, I will. And Roger that.’’

Finally my first battle was over, and I actually hoped not all my battles would go like this, because else this whole recruitment survey thing would sure get annoying and exhausting…

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Like, OMG at the effect of Outrage... it was ready to waste Brian D:

Great job with that chapter! It felt more complete than the previous one - you took your time a little more with that one I feel. There was still plenty of action in that chapter though! Don't feel like you have to make everything all about action - it's the other parts that give the story its meaning after all... *points to the italicised paras in his own fic*.

Here's hoping you get the time to work on this somewhat! Cause it's been good so far :D

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

:DAnother awesome chapter James!!!! Keep going!!!

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Alright my loyal fans(I doubt I have more then 2 actually! xD), here it is: Chapter 12! Brian enters his second round of the recruitment survey, so will it be as hard as the first round? Or maybe it's way easier! Who knows...?

Enjoy!:D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 12: Recruitment Survey second round!

I finally took a break from all the fighting. I was waiting for Thomas at the place we had agreed to meet each other. He was quite late, which was unusual for him. I got myself a milkshake from one of the many vending machines here, and the best part was that these milkshakes were free! I wonder if Kenny and Chris also have these vending machines? Oh well, if they didn’t have these that was their own bad.

’’Hi Brian!’’ a voice from behind me said all of a sudden.

I turned around, and looked inside two deep purple eyes. While I stared into them I could see a million of tiny stars, which were all twinkling back at me. At this view I could feel my own mortality, as it seemed as if I was so small among al these stars. But for some reason it didn’t matter. Seeing all these beautiful stars made me happy. The whole image was soothing to look at, and for a moment I was drifted away in my own thoughts. But after a while I snapped out of it, and I could see a surprised Shannon stand in front of me, holding a half empty strawberry milkshake.

’’Uhm… Hi Brian…? Are you alright?’’ she asked carefully while seeing my expression.
’’W-well… yeah…! Yeah, everything is alright! What about you?’’ I asked a bit shy.
’’My match went great! I won quite easily, so I hope the next round will go just as easy!’’
’’Haha, I hope the same for you!’’
’’What about your match? Did you win?’’
’’Well, euh… yeah, I won alright…’’ for a moment I slipped away in thoughts about my match.
’’But…?’’ Shannon looked at me with the curiosity of a child right before getting a present.
’’Ah, it’s nothing! It just didn’t go as easy as your match I suppose.’’
’’But you won, right?’’
’’Yeah, I won alright.’’
’’Then stop sobbing end enjoy your victory, you silly boy!’’
’’Haha, I guess you’re right Shannon!’’
’’Hey you guys!’’ it sounded from a small distance from behind us.
’’Thomas!’’ Shannon yelled all happy to see Thomas.
’’Hey Shannon and Brian!’’
’’So, how’d it go?’’ I asked.
’’It went great! I won with ease! How about your match Brian?’’
’’I won, but don’t ask me how.’’
’’What do you mean?’’
’’Well, Brian here seems to have had quite the tough match.’’ Shannon added.
’’Really? It couldn’t be that hard, now could it?’’
’’I’ll tell you the details later. Actually, I’m more interested in Shannon’s match!’’
’’Yeah, me too actually!’’ Thomas added.

Shannon started to blush a little and looked nervously to the floor. Both Thomas and I looked very tense in anticipation. We were both quite curious about how her match went, and we wanted to know everything in full detail.

’’Well, even tough Brian already knows, I won the match!’’ Shannon said a little excited.
’’Wow, that’s great!’’ Thomas said. ’’And how did it go?’’
’’Well, it’s nothing special actually. I just got a clean sweep as usual!’’

Both Thomas and I were in shock. We both looked astonished at Shannon. She was such a cute girl, but was she really that good at fighting? Or her opponent must have been a real wimpy type of person. But she clearly said that she usually gets a clean sweep…

’’W-wow, t-that’s great Shannon…’’ Thomas replied before I could say anything.
’’Thank you!’’ Shannon said back, and she smiled back at us with her head tilted left a little.
’’So, if I may ask you Shannon, what pokémon did you use to get the swee-’’

I wanted to ask Shannon which pokémon she had used to get the clean sweep, and which pokémon she got used against her, but I got interrupted by the speakers which announced the start of the second round. We could once again hear Jupiter’s voice booming trough the hall.

’’Congratulations to all that have won so far, and good luck to all that have lost so far. Luckily we still have no draws so far, so I hope we won’t have any in the future either. For the next round the same rules apply with the previous one, but I have a new announcement to make. Without question you will all have taken your bags with you to ensure your stay here at our base. After you have finished your match, when you go to the counter to present your results, you will also receive the list in what dorm you will be staying. Good luck to you all, and be sure to be present here in this hall at 8.00am tomorrow. That is all.’’

After the announcement a lot of ruckus was over the entire hall. Friends were in discussion whether they’d be together in the same dorm, and the same went for people who didn’t like each other. They were arguing they’d never want to be with each other in the dorm tough, instead of hoping to get together in one.

’’Thomas.’’ I said quickly, as we soon had to move to our next round.
’’Yes?’’
’’Before we head to our dorms, let’s meet here. There is a chance we don’t get in the same dorm, but at least we should find a way to keep in touch.’’
’’Roger that, good luck with your match.’’
’’Same to you. And you too Shannon!’’
’’Yeah, and of course you too Shannon!’’
’’Haha, thanks guys, the same to you both! Maybe I’ll meet you here as well!’’
’’Yeah, sure! See ya!’’
’’See ya!’’’
’’See you guys!’’

I looked at the ticket I received from the counter which showed me my next destination. My next opponent was number 68, a guy named Matthew. I walked to the battlefield and there he was, already waiting for me. The same as with Cody. Was I always that late, or were these guys just that eager?

’’Hey there.’’ Matthew said as he came walking towards me.
’’Matthew I assume?’’
’’That’s right. You must be Brian then?’’
’’That’s me.’’

We both shook hands. Matthew was by far friendlier then Cody and Matthew actually looked like a nice guy to hang out with.

’’So, shall we get this over with?’’
’’Well, you seem quite eager to battle?’’
’’Well yeah, to tell you the truth I’m quite tired. I came all the way from Australia you see.’’
’’Ah, I see. You must have had quite the trip getting here then.’’
’’Yeah, and talking about the climate here… Back in Australia we at least got a nice temperature, but even tough the sun shines here everything’s covered in ice.’’
’’Haha, yeah, let’s be thankful they actually put on the radiator in here!’’
’’You betcha! Haha!’’
’’Alright, are you two ready with your chitchat?’’ A grunt interfered us.
’’Y-yes sir!’’ Matthew said a little nervous.
’’Good. Trainers, take your positions. I doubt I’ll have to explain the rules again or do I?’’
’’N-no sir!’’
’’Nope.’’
’’Good, let the battle begin!’’
’’Alright! Allow me to open this battle!’’ I shouted quite excited. ’’Go, Golduck!’’
’’Cool, a Golduck right? Well, get ready for my all time favourite! Go, Snorlax!’’
’’What?!!’’ I shouted surprised and shocked at the same time.
’’Yup, you heard it right mate! Meet my Snorlax!’’

As my Golduck emerged right in front of my eyes, I could see a big Snorlax stand up at the other side of the battlefield. And not just an ordinary Snorlax… No, that thing was huge… Easy estimations could clearly point out that this Snorlax was no pushover… My guess was that is was trained to a high level, and that had already endured tons of battles. Snorlax was known for it’s abilities to fend off opponent’s attacks while sweeping trough them. I was afraid this was going to be another long match, and I sighed at the idea of it. I looked at my Golduck, and I knew my Golduck was no match for a Snorlax of that size… and level. But in the first place the size. Yeah, defiantly the size… I acted quickly, and even tough it was not too nice from me, but I decided to bring out the big guns immediately.

’’Golduck, I’m sorry, but return for now.’’
’’What’s this Brian? Already switching out before a single move has landed?’’
’’I’m sorry for that Matthew. But you see, I’m not wanting to take any risk.’’
’’Risk? Are you scared your Golduck was no match for my Snorlax?’’
’’Well, it might be able to beat your Snorlax of course, and I will never know unless I try it out.’’
’’So what made you withdraw him then so quickly?’’
’’Well, let’s just say I rather play my fights safe.’’
’’Which must mean you already have a new pokémon in mind for using, right?’’
’’You betcha. I’m sorry if this will be too much for you to handle, but just like you I want this match to be over as fast as possible. You see, my last match was quite a pain to handle, and just like you I want to rest quickly.’’

For a moment I paused. I was shocked about my own reaction. Normally I wasn’t this confident of myself, let alone I would proclaim it. I grabbed the next pokéball from my waist, ready to throw it.

’’I apologise Matthew, I didn’t mean to insult you.’’
’’Haha! Have no worries Brian, you’ve got to say a lot more to insult me!’’
’’I’m glad about that. Are you ready?’’
’’I was born ready Brian, so bring it on! Haha!’’ Matthew said with a little sarcasm in his voice.
’’Great to hear! I won’t be holding back tough, even tough I like you!’’
’’Just quit the talk and start fighting! I’m really Curious on who you’ll use!’’
’’Alright then! Go, Dragonite!’’

[End chapter 12]

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Sorry that it took a while for this chapter to come up people, but with the holidays, work, and school I didn't got much time to write for a while... anyways, as a ''reward'' for the waiting, here's an extra long (and juicy) chapter for you all!

Enjoy!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 13: The first night at the Team Galaxy Base.

’’Dragonite! Use thunder punch!’’
’’Snorlax! Counter with body slam!’’

Both heavyweights began their attacks, and while Matthew’s Snorlax leaped up and came thundering down for a full impact body slam, my Dragonite’s antenna’s began crackling with electric energy as it’s fist began to sparkle and crackle while charging up. My Dragonite tried to halt Matthew’s Snorlax’s body slam with its left arm, and even tough my Dragonite gave it his best effort; it was slowly disappearing under the massive body of Matthew’s Snorlax. My Dragonite was still charging its thunder punch, but after a while Matthew’s Snorlax had subdued my Dragonite and with a soft thud Matthew’s Snorlax’s body hit the floor.

’’Dragonite! Get out of there!’’
’’Well, it’s too late now Brian! So far only a very few pokémon managed to get out of the situation you Dragonite’s in now.’’
’’This can’t be! Dragonite, just ge-’’

But even before I could finish my sentence large sparks came from underneath Matthew’s Snorlax, and slowly Matthew’s Snorlax was being lifted up. Bit by bit my Dragonite became visible again, as it was lifting Matthew’s Snorlax up with a volley of thunder punches. A final uppercut smashed Matthew’s Snorlax back to the other side of the field, leaving my Dragonite panting as it stood up. After my Dragonite catched it’s breath again, it opened its wings and flew up high, knowing Matthew’s Snorlax could not reach him there with its body slam attack.

’’Your Dragonite certainly is a cunning pokémon Brian!’’
’’Thanks, and I know! I have full trust in my Dragonite to win this!’’
’’Well, that’s good to hear, but so do I in my Snorlax!’’
’’Bring it on!’’
’’Snorlax! Use hyper beam!’’

I looked at my Dragonite, and my Dragonite looked back it me. We both knew we had to do something fast, as a hyper beam attack could cost us, especially after that body slam attack we took head on. I began to think of a plan, but it was already too late. Matthew’s Snorlax had already finished gathering the power needed for the hyper beam, and I must say he did it faster than that I have ever witnessed any pokémon doing it. Matthew’s Snorlax opened its mouth and within a second a large and powerful beam of energy was hurled at my Dragonite, who could only barely manage to avoid the biggest part of the beam. Afterwards Matthew’s Snorlax fell on the floor, exhausted from the energy drain. Not long thereafter my Dragonite also landed on the floor, immediately falling to its knee from the hit. My Dragonite looked at me, and I understood what it was thinking right away. This was our chance to strike back as Matthew’s Snorlax was gathering energy. Then I got the idea of what to do.

’’Dragonite! Since this is probably going to be the best shot we’re gonna get, we’ve got to give it our all! Are you ready?!’’

My Dragonite looked at me. I could see it was really exhausted from fending off Matthew’s Snorlax’s attacks, but I simply knew my Dragonite was willing to go for it. We both knew this was the best chance we’d ever get, and who knows what Matthew’s Snorlax would do to us if we didn’t act fast… My Dragonite and I nodded at each other and we’d go for it.

’’Dragonite! Unleash your Outrage!’’

Matthew looked shocked at me. My Dragonite roared fierce, and a bright energy enshrouded its body, as well as it was emitted from its mouth and eyes. Matthew looked shocked at my Dragonite, and then at his Snorlax.

’’T-that’s an outrage attack!’’ Matthew yelled at me.
’’You’ve seen that right.’’ I replied calmly.

My Dragonite, now refilled with energy from the outrage, flew up high, and dove down in a straight line at Matthew’s Snorlax. Matthew wanted to say something to his Snorlax, but it was already too late; my Dragonite was way too fast while fuelled by the effect of outrage. It performed an earthquake with both its feet as it landed on Matthew’s Snorlax’s stomach, and as it flew up, Matthews Snorlax also bumped up a small height in the sky from the impact the earthquake had made. Right before Matthew’s Snorlax hit the floor again my Dragonite came rushing down, with in one hand a thunder punch ready, and in the other one a fire punch. As the attacks made its impact and Matthews Snorlax Crashed into the floor, a large explosion followed, and pieces of dust and dirt flew everywhere.

’’Snorlax!!!’’ Matthew yelled at the top of his lungs.
’’Don’t bother Matthew. You saw that impact yourse-’’

I couldn’t finish my sentence, as the smoke and dust was clearing up, but I didn’t see what I expected. Instead of seeing Matthew’s Snorlax defeated on the floor, it was wrestling my Dragonite head on, but both pokémon had taken sufficient damage.

’’N-no way…’’ I stuttered.
’’Yeah Brian, never ever underestimate my Snorlax! You see, me and my Snorla-’’

But Matthew couldn’t finish his sentence either. As he was talking both Matthew and I could see both of our pokémon fell over, and landed with a soft thud on the battlefield. The grunt that judged the match stepped forwards, and observed both pokémon.

’’Both Snorlax and Dragonite are unable to continue fighting. This battle is a draw. Both trainers should retreat their pokémon and continue the battle.’’
’’Very well. Dragonite, return. You did GREAT buddy!’’
’’Snorlax, you were awesome! Just rest for now! Return!’’

I had already used Golduck, and I had one free slot left to use… Matthew on the other hand still had two options left, so I decided to go with the safe tactic to use my Golduck again and to see what Matthew would throw at me…

’’Go! Munchlax!’’ Matthew shouted all of a sudden.
’’Go! Golduck!’’

Now once again two Pokémon stood on the field, ready to fight, Matthew took the initiative tough…

’’Munchlax! Metronome!’’

Matthew’s Munchlax waggled its tiny finger, and then something totally unexpected happened… Matthew’s Munchlax came running at amazing speed at my Golduck and clamped itself tight to it. Before I knew what was going on, it was already too late. Matthew’s Munchlax’s metronome had taken it’s effect, and Matthew’s Munchlax began glowing all over its body.

’’No way!’’ I shouted. ’’Is that a…?!’’
’’Yup, it pains me to see and admit it, but that’s an explosion attack…!’’

With a large blast Matthew’s Munchlax used explosion, and it fainted, dragging my Golduck with it. Once more we were at a draw, but Matthew stepped in after returning his Munchlax.

’’That was a good game Brian. I’m afraid I’m out of pokémon for now… So that means you’ve won.’’ He said.
’’What do you mean? Don’t you have more then two pokémon?’’
’’Oh, I have more alright, but they’re still under shipment to this base. I’m expecting them tomorrow.’’
’’Then it’s settled.’’ The judging grunt added. ’’Brain Shephourd is the winner of this match.’’

And then it was over, the second round of the recruitment survey. Now I could finally meet up with Thomas and go to my room to get some rest from this tiring day… After giving the score at the counter, I went for the meeting spot and started to wait for Thomas… I went to the vending machine once more, and right after I grabbed my strawberry milkshake Thomas came walking towards me.

’’Hey there Brian!’’
’’Hey Thomas, how’d it go?’’
’’Guess what? I won!’’
’’That’s great! Hopefully we’ll end up in the same dorm, or even better, in the same roo-’’

At that moment the speakers began working again.

’’Attention all participants! All round 2 battles are over; please move to the service desk to get your tickets for your rooms. We already moved all your personal belongings to your rooms. You will all sleep together with one room mate. Have a good night, and be on time tomorrow! That is all for now.’’

The speakers turned off, and Jupiter exited the special room she was in. She then left the hall and the battlefields trough a special elevator leading upwards.

’’Well, let’s go to the desk then.’’ Thomas said.
’’Yeah, let’s hope we’re in the same room…’’
’’It would be sweet, but don’t put your bet on it…’’
’’Guess not, no…’’

Both Thomas and I got our tickets, and we weren’t inside the same room, as we guessed… But we were at least in the same dorm, so at least lady luck gave us a little break.

’’Alright then, let’s meet at the centre of the dorm at 10.00pm. I’ll try to contact Kenny and Chris as well.’’ I said
’’Alright, I’ll do my best to try and contact Kenny and Chris as well; even tough I doubt they’ll be able to meet us at our dorm.’’
’’Yeah, I know. But as long as we can keep in touch with them this mission could still work even tough we’re split up.’’
’’Guess so, I’ll meet you tonight, I gotta go to my room now, I got to use the bathroom! See you!’’
’’Thomas, you’re just impossible…! But see you tonight!’’

Thomas ran off, and I slowly walked to my room as well. Once I arrived I got a sort of pleasant surprise, as my roommate was none other than Matthew!

’’Hey there! How are you doing?’’ I asked.
’’Pretty good! It’s kinda weird that we’re roommates tough!’’
’’Yeah, I know, but I’m sure we’ll get along pretty well.’’
’’Yeah, but not for today tough, as even tough it’s still 8.00pm, I’m going to sleep now, I’m pretty tired from the day…! Good night!’’ Matthew said as he entered his bed.
’’Well, yeah, good night I guess…’’

I also already went to my bed after unpacking my stuff, and lady luck once again abandoned me to my fate, as Matthew was snoring loudly… I was glad I brought my ear plugs with me tough…! I decided to wait for Thomas at the centre of the dorm, even tough it was still 9.43pm. Anything better than having to listen to Matthew’s snoring the whole time… I sneaked out of my dorm, and closed the door behind me as quiet as I could. But suddenly I heard some people talking further down the hall of our dorm. They were standing right around the corner. I got curious, and decided to take a look who it where, and what they were talking about? Maybe it were just some galaxy grunts on guard duty or something… But when I came closer I recognised one of the voices… It was Shannon’s voice! I decided to take a look around the corner to see who she was talking to, and if the other person looked nice I might join their conversation for a while… I carefully looked right around the corner, and I could indeed see Shannon standing there, but there also was this large shady figure with her, I could faintly see it was a man, but he was wearing a black robe with purple edgings to cover his body, and his hood covered almost his whole head and face. He was quite muscled, that’s one thing one could clearly see. I stepped a little bit closer to hear what they were talking about…

’’So, you actually went past the first two rounds of this recruitment survey?’’
’’Yes sir, I did. The opponent’s were way too easy. I defeated them both quite easily with just one of my pokémon. Both were a clean sweep sir.’’
’’Good. Be sure to keep us informed at all times. Our master wants to follow the situation as closely as possible, and you know that.’’
’’Yes sir, I’ll do my best.’’
’’Both our master and I have full confidence in that; else he wouldn’t have picked you for this mission. I just came by to check on you after your first day, and to bring you the serum. Be sure to take it each day right before you go to sleep. You know what happens if you don’t, right?’’
’’Yes sir, but have no worries. As well as for my own well being as that of the mission I’ll work everything out to the details.’’
’’Good job Shannon. Both the master and I are pleased to hear that positive news. Good luck with the mission.’’
’’Thank you master Jason.’’

The shady figure then just vanished into the wall as if it wasn’t even there, or as if he was a ghost or something… I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it… Shannon re-entered her room, and the door went on the lock. Afterwards the lights in her room turned off, so I supposed she went to sleep. I sent Thomas a message that we should cancel the meeting for now, and that I’d see him tomorrow. I first had to think about what I just saw, and for now I wouldn’t tell it to Thomas until I was sure about what it actually meant. After all, Shannon was starting to become a friend of ours… And who was this Jason guy…? I returned to my room and decided to go to sleep, I’d think about all this the next day… I put my ear plugs in my ears, and left a note for Matthew that he should wake me if I wouldn’t wake up in time tomorrow. Shortly thereafter I fell asleep after this exhausting day…

RE: James' Fanfic contest entry[still needs a name]

Woo, that's pretty cool... you've got the action, the mystery AND the suspense... all in one chapter! This may well set the "standard" for what I need to do in my next chapter :)

The funniest bit would be the suicide Munchlax - it's so typical that something like that would come up, especially with the knowledge I have :p

The mystery just increased tenfold on Shannon though... I wonder what the serum does to her... or her pokes for that matter. As for Jason, well... there should be another interesting person coming up. Who do they work for I wonder? Hm...

Very nice - when you get the time to, keep up the awesome work! :D
